It wasn't ID anymore than it was Infinity Ward after everyone left. Carmack WAS NOT in charge. He was a consultant.

Again, watch the keynote speech, to say Carmack was not leading the ship is utter denial. They probably wouldn't have even kept the Id name had he not been involved. It's not for you to say what a team name is. I think they're capable of deciding that themselves. And it comes down to IP ownership of ideas too. If the original core team members really had that level of control they could have kept them from even using the name Id.

My point is, usually when a team keeps the same name despite it being almost entirely different, they're telling you they intend on retaining the same development methods, and game style and content. So even though they're different guys, they pick up most of the stuff the original members passed on. That's the part you're ignoring.

That said, if it were the same argument regarding IW, I'd agree, because there all the core guys left, as well as of course both lead guys. Plus Activision weren't really in tune with West and Campella's vision. Here it's different though, because Carmack remained involved. Even then though, teams change, quite often anymore. You still have to respect the name the team uses. Dev teams are like football teams anymore, there's almost always big roster changes regularly. Gotta roll with the punches. It would be silly to try to reassign team names every time a major change happens.

I think a lot of players fall in love with certain core devs too much and get attached to the way things are. You have to adapt to the times, just like they do. The jobs can change, but the IP and team focus remains the same. Knowing how you stubbornly cling to your points of view though, I doubt you'll listen to any of the above.

Carmack couldn't call a single shot for RAGEs development. "ID" was already dissolved by this time. Zetamax was calling the shots. Carmack was just a figure head/mouth piece that was walking the new team through the paces without being able to make a single call. Why do you think he left after Rage? He said sorry about RAGE, it was out of his hands and he left to make Oculus?

Seriously not a SINGLE member of ID remains.

Carmack developed the engine and Mega Textures.. He had nothing to do with the story. I would have loved to play Rage on his tech pc which he maxed the ram out in.. @TheMailMan78 is right all of the original ID members are gone. Todd Hollenshead and John Carmack were the last ones to leave in 2013.

Not going to waste time explaining to you anymore. You ignored all the key points I just made, esp the team retaining key Doom game design that was passed on to them. Carmack was key in not just consulting but TUTORING the entire dev process and implementing Megatrextures. Carmack was to them what Rocksteady was to WB when B-man Origins was made. That project would have never happened without their help.

Your interpretation of his roll and glossing over of Id retaining most of the dev methods of the original team is Megaobtuse. You're basically splitting hairs over a team name, one that was at that time, still Id (and for obvious reasons), and nothing you can say can refute that.

I thought I just said that buddy... Drinking water will help comprehension. :toast:

It's just that it sounded like you were correcting me, and I never once said he had anything to do with the story. Maybe you need a sip of water yourself bud, instead of posting up beers cheers emoticons, while misinterpreting pretty clear and straight forward posts. Alcohol dehydrates, rather than hydrates. Don't touch the stuff myself.

Actually, it didn't sound like anything because it was text of which you had to read and comprehend. Trust me if I was talking directly to you, I would have directed my comment to you. I was just saying in general and was agreeing with TMM. I feel now after your last comment that your lack of comprehension seems to fill your head with doubts. Trust me if you want to continue down this road you can, but remember there will be consequences. I would end this with beers cheers emoticons, but I don't want to offend you. I don't touch the stuff either by the way. I'm far to busy babysitting people on the internet.

I feel if you weren't intent on addressing me with it, you'd have said so, because after TMM and I debating Carmack's involvement, your "nothing to do with" part can easily be interpreted as a tie in to that, which is in agreement with TMM as you said. By extension, that makes it look a lot like disagreeing with me.

You also took it to the point of a passive aggressive insult, implying I was dehydrated, after my merely stating he's never been creative lead. Even without any misinterpretation, my statement is a stand alone talking point as your's was, and now it looks as if you're taking just that to the point of a threat of punishment, over what was really just your not being as clear as you could have been.

Why you'd even imply someone is dehydrated, then post up beer emotions in itself seems pretty hypocritical and flippant.

Oh but I guess I can't argue the point, because apparently mods can do whatever they want, and we just have to take it. BS.

Fair enough, I was growing tired of the communication breakdown anyway. I think I am actually getting a bit dehydrated now. Maybe there should be an emoticon of Smiley sipping from a mountain stream.

Personal hydration. Never thought I would see a thread derail into chaos over who drinks more water. Damn I couldn't troll something that well if I tried!

Yes, agreed, way too off topic. I mean you never see Doom Guy stop for a water break, or tote a Camelback.

That said, I could go for a bit of change 180 from what they're doing, which is going back to Doom 1,2 style. I'd rather see a few RPG features thrown in, even if just a simple skill and weapon upgrade system, with perks. Similar to what Wolfenstein TNO has, only Doom style. Plus I'm going to miss that darker atmosphere and pacing Doom 3 had.

I tend to outgrow arcade shooters about as fast as I did Painkiller and Serious Sam. They were cool when I was new to gaming, but not enough substance for me to be timeless classics. Even Just Cause is looking too samey anymore. It's always the arcade shooter devs that seem to slip into stagnation too.

Pretty nice weapons but that 'weapon selecting ring' is retarded. World pauses then you select a weapon?! Meh...

Executions and chainsaw executions look bad - the game seems to be fairly fast so I don't understand what's the purpose of those.

Quake 4 was badass, I just wish they'd focus more on the mass combat section in the beginning. That was brutal, joint human attack on Strogg planet which kinda captured the feel of first Call of Duty games where you're just a tiny cog in a huge war machine. Then it became a one man army and that wasn't exactly that. But it was still good. I have to take it for a spin again...

I wish Doom had more space-ish feel. The Doom 3's Mars base was pretty cool, but kinda ruined with excessive darkness which wasn't as scary as it was god damn annoying and frustrating. For example, setup like Ishimura space ship, now that was scary and wasn't frustratingly dark. I want that kind of feel in Doom.

If they can recreate the immersion and spookiness of Doom 3, I'll be in it. I remember that game about a decade ago use to make me sweat with fear and anticipation! great stuff! but needed a good rig back in the day to fully enjoy it... 5.1 surround sound... yes please! and alone in a dark house... even better! lol...
