I am asking this as I couldn't play Witcher3 smoothly with this PC configuration. I checked my CPU and RAM usage while playing it, both were good appearing below its powered threshold. So I feel my Graphic card needs to be replaced due to its VRAM. I feel that if I buy a high end graphic card, I can use it for the next three years.

FX-6300 + GTX 980ti seems like a supremely imbalanced system. Your CPU is going to bottleneck the GPU in a lot of modern titles. I'd think about upgrading the CPU (perhaps to an 8350?), maybe the motherboard too if you decide on the Intel route.

back to basic question, what do you expect after you change the card? better gaming, better like triple monitors, need just more powerful card

with your system, you may not get the best performs from your vga

Just take the Ti. For witcher 3 it will spark things up.

If you want a gpu for 3 years, there are no other options actually.

Eventually your board might kick the bucket too sometime... And then do a cpu upgrade. You will get even more. :D

I wouldn't bother with a 980ti with your current CPU. As RCoon already mentioned, a 980ti would be bottlenecked in newer games. Personally, I'd look at the R9 390 or GTX 970 cards, either of which are almost twice as powerful as your 270X

@vikieinstein Hi ..almost same specs like my PC :)

Need better Mobo 990FX chipset & FX 83xx CPU

The 980Ti will be overkill right now :D

Why would you go to an 8350? He already has piledriver, quite a few games don't utilize more than 2-4 threads making the 8350 a worthless upgrade. Overclock the 6300 and drop in a 980 (maybe ti depending on resolution) and move on.

If gaming at 2560x1440, across 3 monitors etc the card will still be the bottleneck. The CPU can push that GPU fine.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Does anyone have any links handy on a single 980 Ti being held back (a lot as some seem to make it) by his CPU (particularly after overclocking)...?

With multiple GPUs, I agree on the AMD processors having a glass ceiling.

@cdawall Yes is good Vishera but 970 can OC so much,4+2 phase and HT Link is limited to 2400Mhz-4800MT/s :)

Probably mild OC and better cooler for that,or take a cheap 990FX & FX 83xx

I go with 970>390 and OC CPU as much possible @ 4.0 Ghz

Not exactly what you want, but this should show how little it matters in witcher 3.

It's a 6300 not an 8 core. there is no reason he can't hit 4.2-4.6 easily with that set up and that cpu. he doesn't need to push the HT link (it makes zero difference). Set the multi to 23 the voltage to 1.46-1.52 and move on.

You can, but it would be held back a little bit by the CPU in some intensive titles. Unfortunately I do not think OC on that board will be great so that's out of the question. But In reality, I do not think it will be much of a bottleneck unless your playing CPU intensive games.

Even so, even if your at 1440p unless your running at 144hz this is way overkill. I would recommend at the higher a GTX 980 as that plays even 1440p very well and spend the rest of the money on doing some upgrades to your system.

Less intensive games could be help back. How will he ever live with 140FPS instead of 200FPS. People always miss that part. Who cares at that point?

That seems like a terrible idea on a Hyper 212. I ran the 6350 and the 8350 at 1.45v and I can happily say the 212 will not hold those voltages.

If you really want to mess with your head some. SLI+4K and witcher 3, look who is on top...Now remember this is the 2011 socket on intel with what twice as many PCI-e lanes as skylake, double the memory bandwidth etc.

Depends on CPU and if he has dual fans on the 212, they aren't awful. I have pushed that kind of voltage on the basically stock coolers with the 4350 and 6300.

As its been clearly stated, just dont with that cpu youd be holding the 980 ti back. Maybe look at an i5 and mobo and then a gtx 970 or 390.

IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME HE IS PLAYING. People are really playing the intel sheeple card today. Here is a CPU that absolutely blows an i5 out f the water. The 5960x even overclocked renders the same number of frames if not LESS even when SLi is involved. Buy a better video card and a cheaper CPU. This is the combo for modern games I have been touting for years, reviews for years have backed up the GPU makes more of a difference than CPU in high end gaming.

I apologize for playing the "intel card". I was simply stating my opinion on what would be worthit. I deleted my post.

What is not worth it with a 980Ti? The current GPU he has is holding back his games, to remove this problem he wants to upgrade to a better GPU. So your suggestion would be to upgrade something not holding the system back, and half upgrade the GPU. Sounds like lower FPS to me, particularly where they matter at the minimum side.

You shouldn't have deleted. That option should be available for posterity. People visit old threads and make decisions based on advice they see that they feel serves them well.
