I'm looking at getting a new 1440p 27" Monitor I have a AMD R9 390 I can run games at max setting in 1080p pretty well.
So if I get another r9 390 will I be able run 1440p at max settings and will I need a water cooler for my GPUs because of the extra heat generated by having two cards side by side?

Could you give me an expected fps count, Thanks.

I have 2x 290s and a 2560.1440 monitor, and for the games that support crossfire, I get very good fps. In turn, you will too. Not all games support crossfire so it will be game dependant.

Even on goes that don't support crossfire, your 390 will hold its own and give very good performance.

Watercooling is not a necessity, more based on personal preference. Mine are water-cooled but that's because I wanted to, and the stock ref coolers weren't great on these cards ;)

You will be fine.
I have been gaming at 1440p with a single 290x, an old i7 920 and 6gb ram for quite a while now.
Ultra settings and 60fps for most games (some may require to lower shadows and lighting a notch, which is barely noticeable).
You wont go back to 1080p!

Have to agree with haunted here, i run a single 390 on a 1440p monitor and dont have any problems with gameplay( Ie GTA V smooth as butter). Get the monitor first see how you find the gameplay and if you feel the need for another 390 first.

So they won't over if I use them for continued hours?

I happen to have a single R9 390 and a 1440p monitor and it by itself can top 75 fps on max settings in the games I play average is 60 with v-sync off.
