Microsoft Rolls Out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

I'm pretty sure you're confusing telemetry with how preview builds before launch used to send all the key presses to Microsoft (not third parties).
Today, you can still opt out of everything: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-telemetry
It's even easier for enterprise users, but what can you do, home users are those that need handholding the most.

I'm not a big fan of Windows, but it does its job at home. And there's no denying it improved hugely over the past few iterations.

Could be. I can't deny, it has improved a lot. I frankly like it way more than Win8.1 or Win7. But the privacy concern is still there for the most part.

Even if I told it's just telemetry and you can turn it off. To each their own, I guess.

Yeah well, when company "by mistake" collects things it shouldn't, you're never ever again too sure what else they "by mistake" forgot to mention you...

If some of you want to continue with discussion around toilet habits and the like, I can think of a couple of other forums where it might be acceptable but here it's not, thread cleansed of all the crap (forgive the pun), please stay on topic..... thank you.

Yeah, I just had to go through and change a bunch of settings. Kinda annoying if you ask me.

EDIT: It also reset my audio levels as well.

That's because it re-installs all drivers and stuff... I had my Sound Blaster Z settings reset as well.

Yep, I can confirm, Windows 10 re-installed all my sound drivers, and corrupted all the settings for my X-Fi Titanium.

My keyboard language settings are removed, and reverted to default.

Also it removed and disabled my Gadgets (3rd party)

Seriously Micro$oft????

I had to manually click the update, I think they roll out the updates automatically to different regions at different times so the servers dont get overloaded, but yeh if your computer hasnt updated yet, just click it manually.

I went here, Download Windows 10, ran the tool. Used the option to get the ISO.
It downloaded the file "Windows10.iso and it was the 14393 build.
Thanks for checking. Time for me to add another 3 gigs to my unlimited tariff. :p

It's not that. I updated my desktop last night, but this morning my laptop still wouldn't see the update. So yes, it seems it's a staggered update, but I can't figure out what's the rule.

Just finished updating second PC... It decided to change my background to match my lock screen.
Other than that, I don't see any other problems, yet...

i never understand this stuff. Microsoft allows users to adjust, some updates revert to defaults, just change it back. You only have to suspend whatever you are protecting against for a minute or two. I don't really see what the point is though, just because you untick a couple boxes in Windows doesn't mean you aren't being tracked. You can only untick what you are allowed to, have no proof it stops anything, and everything you do still flows through multiple ISPs that give you no boxes to untick.

Gee, I'm happy you weren't so upset when Microsoft started to collect data on crashes, leading them to discover most blue screen were caused by crappy drivers.
You don't want to share your data? Don't use a Microsoft account, don't use Cortana, disable whatever data sharing comes enabled by default. But I fail to see what whining on TPU is supposed to accomplish.
Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 also collect the data now and if you want to disable the collection of the data you kind of have to run a tool like Destroy
Windows 10 Spying every time you run the update.
The same thing is with Windows 10 but Windows 10 makes it even harder because you have to use registry keys or some other program to disable/enable updates. So as you see can use updating Windows 10 requires you:

1. Enable updates
2. Update
3 Run a tool that removes the spyware
4. Disable updates

This is a rather tedious process, wouldn't you say?

I wonder why they don't just publish the image files.

It's not about having something to hide, it's about losing freedoms, one small step at a time.
If you have nothing to hide, will you allow big brother to install cameras in every nook of your home, because it will happen.

Now this is a 10/10 analogy, no insults or sarcasm.

I wonder why they don't just publish the image files.
Maybe it requires you to do all that, but I certainly don't jump through all those hoops to update.

And if you try to put yourself in the position of some tech support guy trying to troubleshoot the computer of a computer-illiterate person, you'd see why remote diagnosis is something Microsoft has to do.

Bottomline, it's a pretty well documented feature, with ways to disable it. Your unwillingness to read about it and calling it "spying" is just a primary reaction to things you don't understand. Fyi, OS X does the same thing. Linux doesn't, because there's no company behind it that can use all the data, but certain distributions do include tools to report incidents.
Tbh, I have a bigger problem with updates being pushed on my machine than I have with telemetry data collection. But so far nothing has botched my machine, so even automatic updates don't bother me that much.

Cool. Seems that a couple issues were resolved for me. The most agitating being that some folders flat out refused to "open in same window" (Explorer options). Went into the Registry to manually set that option and they continued to open in new windows. This happened after an upgrade from Windows 7 and after a fresh install on a different machine. Now Explorer is behaving as expected.

Don't know if it was in this update or earlier, but I was able to set a default location. Handy since this is a desktop without a GPS. I largely ignored Cortana and Maps when Windows 10 first came out, but I might try them again.

Got the update yesterday and was quite impressed. Sound card EQ was reset and the video card didn't show up when right clicking on the screen but a quick uninstall and reinstall did it for me. Otherwise love the new look and feel of the OS.

I'm hoping a reinstall of GPU driver and SoundBlaster Z drivers are all that is necessary. Oh and turning off hibernation. Every major update is a complete reinstall of the OS, and results in me having to disable it and remove from C. Don't really understand the need for complete new OS installs.

That was an opinion about the privacy issues (for some) in relation to Windows 10 that have been mentioned by other members in the thread, unless my old eyes are deceiving me there is no mention of toilet habits in that post?
