I own a Zotac GTX970 AMP Extreme Edition and i recently updated my video driver from 373.06 to 375.95 and i have some bad performance drops... A few days ago i done some benchmark for a friend of mine to see what kind of frames i got with my GTX970, and today i redone the same benchmarks with the new driver, and i was badly surprised when i seen the new scores...

Here are the scores with the old and new drivers (my system specs are i7 4790 , ASRock Z87 Extreme6 , 16GB ddr3 2400Mhz CL11 , Zotac GTX970 OC , 2x 2TB SSHD , Corsair TX750M , LG 27" FullHD ) Everything was MAXED out during the tests...

There were quite a few posts in general about some random perf drops on various cards even new ones.

So you benched 11 games on 2 drivers 3 times each (66 benches) ... why not play a game instead lol.

I think that most of the new drivers are meant to improve performance on Pascal, and while the architecture is similar, it is different. Maxwell's performance improvement drivers were done last fall. So, unless there's some hotfix for an issue you're having, there's absolutely NO reason to continue to update them.

lol, no....not really. If you don't NEED to update your driver for a specific reason, don't. It's that simple. Maxwell is now legacy hardware, and the drivers are NOT meant to improve the performance on those GPUs. Simple as that. If you continue to update, and see "drop offs in performance", that's on you.

Yep! This includes all those drivers that are supposed to improve specific game performance. I've never worried about it and haven't suffered. I'm usually quite a bit behind on drivers.

What do You guys use for "optimal" drivers for 9XX GPU's?

For benchmarking, the best one I found was 353.62. I never installed anything different, until TimeSpy came out, and went with a newer driver on the 980tis with it's release. I don't recall which one I used though.

The 3.5gb/slower 512mb thing is a bit of a concern in future drivers, i dont see them optimising around it as well in future drivers

Like every driver update, there's no point of updating it unless AMD or Nvidia specifies that there's a fix for your issues. But it has been pretty sad for Nvidia, the popular belief that AMD drivers are bad a couple of years ago seems to have turned around.

I've found with my 980Ti, the 373.06 I am on works great.

For other Maxwells I am still on 368.69. @qubit has probably broken out in hives at such lack of any ocd! :p J/k

With such an old out of date driver I suspect you'll catch an infection sometime soon. <sigh> :p You really need to learn to install with wild abandon like I do the minute a new driver comes out - glitches be damned.

Anyway, you got that wrong, it's cdo - remember to put the letters in their correct alphabetical order!

Is that a WDDM 2.1 driver? I think it isn't.

Really I'm looking for the best one of those. Otherwise, dates be damned.

Only time I really can is when dealing with SLI profiles, honestly.

I never update drivers unless there is a huge problem with compatibility.

I am still running 350.12 GTA V drivers because it was the best for my 700 series card. I tried later drivers but it was either slower, less smooth, or less stable on some games. This one seems to work fine so I am still using it.

Also I don't install the Geforce Experience bloatware.

i finally done some benches again (with drivers 368.69 , 372.70 and 375.70) and the best driver was the 373.06 and 375.70... now i will keep the 375.70 driver for a time to see how it performs... thanks :)

i finally done some benches again (with drivers 368.69 , 372.70 and 375.70) and the best driver was the 373.06 and 375.70... now i will keep the 375.70 driver for a time to see how it performs... thanks :)

Nice to see someone else confirm 373.06 is a good driver, since I've stuck with it a few months now.
