How hot is too hoy for a PWM.

I just added a custom liquid cooling radiator to my system running 3 fans on top of the 7 that I have cooling HDD's RAM ETC plus 2 Vid Cards.

I dropped my CPU temps under full OC by another 11 to just above room temps but my PWM went CRAZY hot while running orthos I hit 70 (AND CLIMBING?).

I know vid cards get hot but what is the tolorance of the PWM?

I have found no info on this after 2 hours of searching for hours on the web.:banghead:

Yes I too have been wondering this....right now mine is at 42* C but during extreme gaming on hot days it can get to 49* C.

Can't you heatsink it? I think there are some heatsinks on newegg that go on top of PWMs... If not, you can just mod some heatsinks to fit :p

what I suggest is taking the fans for the OTES sytem and try to wire them direct so they work at all times....also I had a thought ,I remember seeing a PWM shutdown temp in bios. If I recall its 90*c for shutdown!

@ anti...has sink on it from factory...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127207R

EDIT: no OTES system on the SLI????????

Sweet that helps very much that chip must be made of cryptonite!
I swear this is the best mod I,ve done and I'd hate to lose it.

It has heatsinks and fans.
I may liquid cool it if I continue with massive temps.

Liquid cooling the MOSFETs is a waste of money.
It will gain you nothing.

Cooler running PWM's also helps your voltages stay stable :)

a cool rig is a kool rig ;P lol... naa but its nice to keep your system cooled eg. a hot psu gives you more fluctuation in your rails.

There is that also... Colder is better :)

Well unless you can get things so cold it literally freezes electricity in which case you will have enough money soon you wont need to worry about frying anything EVER.

would swiftech ram sinks fit/stick good to the pwm chips? I thought they would be a bit to big for the chips and not stick well. (Im looking into doing this).

Well if they don't fit a simple hand metal saw would trim them down really easy, then use your favorite thermal pad or thermal paste *adhesive*

I actually cut up an old Pentium heatsink for them on a board once.

Does it have to be adhesive? can it be AS Ceramique? I do have some pads left over from my 1900gt's stock cooler.. but donnno how sticky they are now. I dont wanna spend $20 on adhesive.

If its not the adhesive the heatsinks will slide right off of them :(

Unless Ceramique is fairly sticky and may hold something that small and light, but I don't know.

get some thermalright mosfet heatsink if you really wanna cool those mosfets. though the swiftech sinks will give you decent enough performance. my mobo doesn't have any hs's other then the nb 0_o, better check my pwm's..
