Worth Going SLI?

I wanted to know if my current specs are worth going to SLI or not.

Intel Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz
3 GB Ram
BFG Tech GeForce 7950 GT OC GDDR3 512mb PCI-E

What 3dmark score is that? 06? I get 5012 with a single core CPU and a 7900 GT. On your question though. Some games benefit more than others from SLI. Are you a gamer? Also if you are willing to spend the money. I would just go with a 8800.

Well, that 3DMark Score was with 1 gig ram. Dunno, Let me go test again. also I am a gamer.

TBH m8, you would be better off selling your current card and grabbing a 8800 series card

That would give you a better performance boost IMHO

go with an 8800 gts i got scores around 1100 compared to 9300 with 2x7950gt sli, though i was using them on a crossfire mobo with a hacked driver not sure if that had any bearing on the score. here is a link to the benches i did.

I say go for the 8800GTS 320MB if you play at resolutions under 1280x1024. Anything higher get the 640MB.

That is completely not true. I play ALL my games at 1280x1024 or higher with a 256 MB card with no problems. Get whatever you want/can afford.

the 640 is more futureproof... but the 320 should be capable of doing 1600x1024 at the very most, but when DX10 games start coming out I bet the 8800GTS 320MB starts crying.

Whatever it is, it's the most extreme of extreme cards. Why, it's so extreme, its extremeness cannot be described for fear of overloading the brain with too much extreme.

the extra ram on the 640mb, will come in handy if you like to max the Anti aliasing, isotropic filtering and stuff, other than that they performed pretty similar at 1680x1050. the extra 50quid may future proof you a bit, if there is such a thing in computing. :ohwell:

yeh you could go sli and it would do well in a few tests but not when you want to play dx10 games!!

i would sell it and get a 8600 if you have no money and the 8800 if you do!! or if you are feeling crazy get the x2900xt
