Decided to stop the Vega waiting and get a GTX 1070

With the mining boom, I was able to flip my XFX RX 480 (crap card, power throttled at stock) for $320 on eBay. Tomorrow I am going to microcenter to get a new Strix GTX 1070. AMD wanted me to wait, and I gave them time, but I could not pass up the opportunity to get a nicer card.

I have ascended to the green side finally.

@Volkswagen has a nice looking barely used 1070...you would hardly spend a dime out of pocket!

the 1070 isnt a 4k card just so you know. Its smashingly good for 1440p though.

Just cross your fingers you get sent one with Samsung ram. Because those can OC like mad. Check out W1zzards MSI 1070 Gaming X review -- whatever OC he manages to get, you can easily get yourself or within the same ball park.

Oh you won't regret it. Much higher performance and better drivers. No brainer. I've got a top-end version of the GTX 1080 and I absolutely love it.

Vega might well change things, but that's yet to be proved.

Exactly. Here's the situation I was in. I was unhappy with my rx480 and wanted more power. I liked the idea of waiting for Vega, and seeing what AMD had to offer me. A person can only wait so long, and the only logical progression above an RX 480 was the 1070, and here I am.

I went from a pair of 480's to the 1080Ti was in the same "waiting for VEGA" middle of may hit and they had nothing on the to SKU list at work and I went well that isn't coming out and got a 1080Ti

The problem is that AMD constantly delays release date of their new high-end card. First they delayed an RX 490, than canceled it, now they delayed RX 590 and I'm 99% sure that they'll cancel it as well. I bet that we'll see RX 680 prior to RX 590. I know that last year's RX 490 prototype was equivalent to GTX 980 Ti, but with 8 GB VRAM, so that would make it just slightly less powerful than GTX 1070. RX 590 (if they release it this year, and I seriously doubt that) will have to compete with GTX 1170 or at least offer some 5-10% better performance than 2016's GTX 1080.

Well I'm still waiting. wonder for how long since not even released and yet there's benchmarks to consider and custom PCB's. The wait is killing me. Hope it is worth to wait.

How can one delay RX490 which was never officially announced? And exactly the same goes for RX590. It doesn't exist and it was never even announced.

^^ It wasn't officially announced for the release, but it doesn't mean it wasn't created. AMD even listed RX 490 on their web pages.
