Rockbox finally released their firmware for the 5.5Gen iPod Video 80GB.

Listening to The Who in flac as I type this. (Ballad of Bubba O'Riley :rockout: )

Rockbox has a proper 5 band parametric EQ, done in software. The EQ has global gain control as well (something the iPod EQ settings desperately needed). What's this, boosted bass with NO distortion?! No more clipping, YAY!!!!

It can also control the hardware EQ, if that's your preference, but it's not parametric (from what I can tell).

The iPod has never sounded better.

Yeah, seriously. I wouldn't have even bought an iPod if not for 2 things.

1.) The sheer amount of accessories available for it.

2.) The absolutely huge discount I got on it. I got the 80GB for the same price as the 30GB.

I was about to say, the ipod isn't the best rockbox target, but I see you have your reasons for buying it. I have a gigabeat with rockbox and it's just amazing. :D

I hate that distortion, but Rockbox doesn't look as nice as the native firmware.

You either get distortion free music or a pretty GUI, but not both :)

Well it is an open-source project so you're free to tweak as much as you want... the hard part is the programming itself (at least for me :p )

Mouse over the pictures, to see what the menu looks like. I have jClix(which actually has 12 different themes in it), Theme X Lowbar, and Black Glass AA. They look even better on the iPod, than they do on the site.

Wow. I'll have to check these out. I need to buckle down and organize the music on my computer. I moved it a few times during a couple Windows reinstalls. Need to refine the music on my iPod as well.
