Get the cheapest, they all clock similar, any premium you pay on this is for epeen value.

45 eur for the AMP extreme will definitely NOT give you an extra 10% performance, or even 5%. So its not worth doing.

Buy the one you like. Most 1080's perform the same with only a 1 to max 5 fps difference out of the box.

Gainward is cheaper AFAIK but they've got some funny business with advertising their DP ports as "DP 1.4 ready" while they're DP1.2.

Cards I recently owned in the order from quietest to loudest

-1080 SJS, hands down the quietest
-290 Trix, surprisingly quiet for such a power hog, Sapphire really nailed it!
-980 Ti 6G Gaming, a fair bit louder than previous two but still very much acceptable
-980 G1, I don't know what it is about this card that makes it less pleasant than 980Ti while the card is actually quieter, the noise the fans produce is high pitched and annoying as hell
-HD7870 GHz edition with windforce 3X cooler, ugh, what a leafblower

If you can go for the GameRock version, it's got a better cooler on it.

Alternatively, you could go for my one and battle the dodgy fans.

Get an affordable but decently cooled model. This late in the game it is worth saving as much money as possible. The original 1080s released about a year ago and Volta may be around the corner in the next few months.

As far as I remember the only major difference between GameRock and SJS is the 8+2 phase versus 8 phase and RGB. The cooler is the same, same fans, same heatpipes etc.

In reviews, the cooling performance of both cards is identical. The extra power phases are nice for marketing but completely worthless anyway.

So get the cheapest. @qubit sorry bud

I did hear that the GR version was better quality, better performance, but don't know from personal experience. From what you're saying, it sounds like the GR version will be able to handle sustained overclocks more reliably, ie the power circuitry less likely to die after some time. I only had the GR version, which worked very well, until the card died lol. Never got round to overclocking it. I made a thread all about it at the time.

I think that better quality is based on the statement that Palit does some binning on the GameRock, in a slightly lesser degree also on the SJS, and does not bin the JS version.

Gainward has the exact same cooling solutions btw
http://www.gainward.com/main/edm/gtx1080_phoenix/index_en.php

- and also says it does binning on the Phoenix GLH

Take with a bucket of salt, all of these versions are 99% marketing. Palit and Gainward are the same company, and they sell the same tiers of Pascal cards in the same way, binned Pascal has never really been spotted in the wild because the only cards that clock beyond 2100-2180mhz are those you put under a custom loop and custom BIOS making the shroud its under irrelevant anyway. Regardless of binning - this can be done with FE's or top 'binned' versions. Note that the FE also has the ref board and only uses 6 phases. About sustained OC's, I find that hard to quantify...

At similar price or minor difference (below 10-15 $) definitely get the 'better' one, otherwise I wouldnt bother.
