It's not like Ubi has lost sales including various religious beliefs in their games. Maybe it's because they don't tend to follow any set religion and put their own twist on it. AC is their biggest seller, and consequently has the most religious overtones of any of their franchises. I really doubt it will have any bearing on the sales of this one either.

I think most gamers are OK with it as long as the story is written well, but certainly in shooters the story is less complained about than in other genres. Bioshock Infinite is another example of a game with lots of religious overtones that sold very well.

The thing is though, Far Cry means and has always been about just what it implies, a remote group of people doing despicable things out in the boonies somewhere. So I think the cult mentality fits that well.

I would like to thank 1Gpi2ZV6Jy for opening my eyes to his points (which I feel are justified). I was originally looking forward to this title but now I'm pretty certain I will be skipping this title due to the valid in my eyes points that 1Gpi2ZV6Jy has made and the earthly me is a little bummed but the spiritual me is thanking you with all my soul!!!
This discussion has stayed respectful of both opinions and I hope we keep it this way and if it wasn't for people like 1Gpi2ZV6Jy who was able to respectfully bring this point of view to the surface for other like minded folks to be aware of is very honorable and deserves respect as well.

I think in the end its exactly the strong ties to real world things and events, either twisted into surreality or not, that make a game more interesting. Ubi won't suffer from this, on the contrary - they're touching a 'hot topic' which gives the game that much more weight and presence. Games that challenge morality and ethics have always been popular - and almost every Far Cry narrative is centred around that.

Religion simply is and always has been a vehicle to carry whatever floats our boat. Be it power, influence, violence, satisfaction, uncertainty, lack of knowledge, or just someone to talk to. Cults do exactly that, and in that are no different from anyone else...

Yes, their is a ancient history of hunting faith throughout humankind's existence but this does not grant it's okay to use it in an murderous game.

It's just a god damn game. I feel like artistic depictions/interpretations in media of all kinds are hindered by an unnecessary amount of political correctness. This is fiction.

Sorry if I sound overly aggressive it's not my intention , but I feel that every single time someone just has to associate everything with some kind of supposedly "disrespectful/hateful" intent. It's not like it was blatantly brought up off topic. He was referring specifically to the story content of the game, what's wrong with that? We happen to disagree on whether it's an actual form of orthodox religion, or cult, but he's entitled to his opinion of the game and it's content, and it IS on topic.

I understand why many are put off by religion, and maybe feel that games shouldn't be used as a platform to convey them, but just like in real life, the villains in many games use faith following people by misrepresenting what their faith is really about. IMO that is why it should be considered cult vs religion. Many of these cults in real life have leaders whom take several wives, often times very young ones. In game worlds it's more common they take it upon themselves to judge, torture, and slaughter those they consider unworthy. None of that is the Christian way, so the religion itself shouldn't be blamed. All Ubi are doing is painting a fairly realistic game world that somewhat represents the dysfunctional nature of the real world. It may be a bit exaggerated as with most games, but the basics are the same.

In FC2 there are multiple endings (well, sort of), so make sure you do saves at points where you need to make a choice. I did all possible permutations... Also, an SSD and/or no page file or RAMDISC (volatile) may help a little with the long loading times, btw You may also try some cheats afterwards ... they are kind of fun sometimes. Infinite ammo, super speeds, no fatigue etc. Imagine grenade and rocket launchers with infinite juice

freedom of speech protects against this type of censorship (thankfully) . Im guessing they used religion because they have used a ton of other stuff, and wanted some new ideas, and this is one that the R/D guys came up with. i wouldnt label it as a "religious shooter" personally, however It certainly uses a religion driven antagonist group, but thats not All the game is about. I think your looking too deep into it with an anecdotal viewpoint (which is your right). I watched the entire video, and I think it looked great.

FC games have had religious components to them, FC4 had Buddhism, Hinduism (in a vague sense) but it had a definite religious part, but that didnt define the game, and certainly didnt make it a "religious shooter".
Far Cry 3 used indigenous religions of the Pacific Asian islands , i.e rituals, (and other stuff i dont recall perfectly, but i do recall it had some content that could be seen as religious) even the ending could be interpreted as a religious person defeating their inner demons.
Far Cry 2 had what I would describe as Political/Social factions (which most ofthe FC series seem to contain) and many could say politics is equally as "taboo" as Religion.

IMO, I think its always best to allow freedom of expression , and since the Supreme court has decided that Video Games DO fall under the protection of the First Amendment (right of Free speech) video game creators are allowed to enjoy that freedom to express themselves without worry of persecution . IMO suppressing Any form of artistic expression can only serve to hinder creativity, and really only insults the population of a given society (essentially a government or ruling body deciding what its people can or cant be exposed to is simply patronizing, and silly IMO). another reason im thankful to be an American, and to enjoy the freedoms afforded to me.

What I am arguing is that I believe in the right of freedom pertaining to artistic expression. I think you're indulging in a lot of speculation with your generalizations there. Again, there are plenty of games with heavy religious overtones that have sold quite well, including Ubi's AC, which has had quite a lot of success and is still their biggest seller. They don't really need "good luck", because they know how to convey such things realistically.

I think what you're failing to see is that Ubi is not trying to hard sell religion. If anything they typically point out how obsession over it or distortion of it often results in chaos. This is just one of the reasons I think including it in their games has not limited sales, plus the fact that they don't really adhere to any orthodox religions.

I'm not going to argue that many religious people in the real world cause problems and behave in hypocritical ways, but I really don't see atheists that stereotype them as being any better. I don't adhere to a the-people-of-this-or-that-following-are-all-bad mentality. That's what causes conflicts in the first place. It's called prejudice.

I'm a southern Baptist to the core. I don't see a problem with this game. I hate to break it to you but people as a whole are a bunch of assholes. Have been since day one. Whether its G-D fearing nut jobs or Commie Global Warmest tree hugger queers, people will use whatever they can to further their personal interests. I liked that map a lot tbh, even though most things were roadside there were so many forks in those roads you could get lost. And I never understood why we lost all those jamming guns in the later installments, brilliant mechanic.

I agree it was a great and fun game, and had an actual story. One thing though makes it one of the most frustrating exercises in gaming history: literally drive 10 yards past an outpost you annhialated, and it is populated again. I mean, WTF?!

Yeah, that was one of the big WTFs. But overall it was a pretty damn addictive game, with the lush Savannah vegetation and terrain, animals (all docile, unfortunately) the looooooong range sniping which felt more real than FC3, FC4 etc. That rusty bolt gun felt the most "real" tome. When the bullets pierced the bots hurling towards you in those MG-fitted trucks, it actually felt like something. And the bots' talking, asking for help.... medic carrying him to safety... quite nostalgic tbh.

I like the game but some scenarios are a little bit weird, also the face that is easy to get lost cuz the map is a tabloid you have in your hands and cannot run watching it, also the face that everytime you want be sure you are in the right plce have to check the map press "M" and all the process... so far thats the unique thing i hate FC 1 & FC2,

FC1 and FC3 are the best two of the series. FC1 I enjoyed the over the top protagonist, Manly Man Jack Carver. His campy voice acting was one of the better parts of the game.

FC3's wimpy millenial protagonist was annoying but the game itself was great fun. I have played FC1,2,3,4 and haven't played Primal. I thought 4 was terrible. It was like a bad version of 3 and I would rather just replay 3 than play 4. I couldn't stand the awful color pallet of 2 with the yellowish haze and the blur. Also the constant malaria stuff was really annoying.
