Certainly is an interesting twist on it, but it sounds like it may be more work than what it's actually worth. Then again, aim just right at those that are growing up with micro transactions being a "normal" aspect of their everyday gaming and it could be a very lucrative method to squeeze more money out of people that are just too stupid to understand what's going on.

They're only cancerous because they know teens and many single 20/30 somethings have too much disposable income and/or their parent's credit card. They're wasteful impulse buyers.

It's not the industry's fault for recognizing how many dumbasses play games.

I think Indy games would have more of a spotlight if Steam cracked down on asset flippers a little more. If more money went to indy devs and they got more attention then that would be great.

Its not just microtransactions though. Its the loot crates that come along with the whole microtransaction system that legalises something thats supposed to be illegal and nothing is being done about it.

people can become addicted to loot crates. Its like giving drugs to minors who are drug addicts, Nevermind the fact that they shouldnt be taking drugs anyway.

publishers/developers are exploiting people for personal/corporate gain. I mentioned this in another post and you ignored it.

I like some Indy games, but I won't even play some just because lot of it seems pretentious and tries too hard to be "art".

Something about the titles with "names" in them get me antsy too.. and I can't explain why. lol. "Thomas Was Alone", "What Remains of Edith Finch"...

Just on a conceptual level, many don't even sound exciting. But there are gems. Bastion/Pyre/Transistor, Banner Saga, Cuphead, Stardew Valley.. These are solid games with badass aesthetics.

Lmao Valve has been running/fueling what probably is one the biggest gambling networks on the internet right now. For 13 year olds.

This is small fish in terms of a questionable legal foundation compared to that.

These companies are hypocrites anyway. Amy Hennig is probably the most famous female working on games.. and EA shut down her project anyhow.

As for indie SJWs.. I'll let the market decide. I'm not sure how well it's working out for them.

You are truly missing out on this one. It is overwhelmingly positive in its ratings (97%). A fantastic game!

Add me in Steam....I am so confident you will see a really great game I will give it to you free. Just PM me here so I know who it is in Steam.

I appreciate it, but you don't have to do that. I kind of screwed up by making my Steam account my real life name. No offense to you personally, but I hate giving it out.

I promise I'll keep it mind though. Like I said, this is one of my more irrational dislikes about titles. I don't even know what it's about.

Already been doing that for years :D I sold all of my consoles and am basically building a new rig just to be able to play classic console games on it, lol. Not just the usual NES, SNES, Genesis, etc., but the more demanding PSX 2, Wii and Gamecube games. With the exception of a few recent Nintendo 3DS games, I haven't bought a modern game in...years? (even though I really want to play the new Zelda) I'm assuming you don't mean just PC games? I think the last PC game I got was Alien: Isolation, lol.

Oh man, I really want to play "What Remains of Edith Finch" after reading about it in a recent issue of Game Informer. I prefer more story-oriented games rather than run and gun shooters (they make me dizzy lol) That, the "Vanishing of Ethan Carter", "Observer", "Cuphead" and "Sonic Mania" I'm pretty sure Cuphead and Sonic Mania would run on my rig, but I don't know about the others.

I get the point of loot crates, I mean yeah I guess they were fine for games like Dota, PUBG and CS and other multiplayer or other competitive games.

BUT for Shadow of War? Battlefront 2? and Assassins Creed? what the hell are they even thinking??, and the fact the these games are already selling at full retail price ($60) and they want more money from it. Also, these loot crates are different from the ones in CS/Dota/PUBG, because those are just cosmetics. suprising for shadow of war and AC, which are singleplayer experiencse, to include this kind of mechanic.

in Dota 2 , TF2 or CS, buying the most expensive skins won't make you a better player. in PUBG, buying a flashy skin item will just make you an easier target to spot(and you'll cover it with armor anyway) Also, Dota doesn't have any source of income aside from cosmetics, and promotions that they get. the game is free to play, just like any other free to play iOS game or MMORPG, they live through microtransactions. it increases the longevity of the games, pays for the server fees, and patches/maintenances.

Also, I've earned ALOT of money from trading around Dota and CS cosmetics, and have bought hundreds of games due to it, although I have retired, and trading is shittier now, there is a good side to it. So I would say that microtransactions/lootcrates aren't bad at all. It's the unnecessary ones that make everything look bad. call me biased but that's just what I think.

I appreciate it, but you don't have to do that. I kind of screwed up by making my Steam account my real life name. No offense to you personally, but I hate giving it out.
you can always change the name though, it's the one where you log in with that cannot be changed. but you don't need to say that one. Login name and steam(display) name can be two different names. My first steam account was my full name as well, but changed the display name later when it realized that it was a bad idea

I'm 40 too... unmarried even.. Somehow I managed to not fall prey to this.

I am not an intelligent buyer at times though. I'm more prone to buying entire games that are crappy. Just not the microtransactions.

I have this problem myself.

I personally do not mind micro-transactions when implemented correctly. As long as it does not provide something that can't be earned through regular gameplay then I'm cool with it.

As much as I enjoy playing games I just cannot spend tons of time playing and sometimes it helps if I can just purchase a pack that gives me the items I want to enjoy the game but don't have the 30 hours to earn it.

I guess I would be considered part of the problem.

A game that only rewards you because of time investment is a piece of shit. Games, traditionally at least, reward you for solving problems. Not just video games. Any game. Anything that doesn't do that isn't really a game imo. Even if it "looks" like one. The appearance is a trap.

This is a big reason why I hate MMO's especially. They're not developed by traditional game designers. But I think some of their methods have slipped into the rest of the industry too.

A game that only rewards you because of time investment is a piece of shit

Pretty much almost every game genre then? God forbid game developers want to make their games a little more fun and challenging by setting levels and achievements you need to unlock certain things in game. Almost every game has some form of level unlock system.

Whats the fun or the point in playing a game if everything is handed to you on a plate? That just makes it boring. You might aswell go watch paint dry. Theres nothing to grind and all you have to do is sit or stand there staring at a wall.... How boring of a person you must be to think like that.

Think of all the beatem ups, all the FPS, all the RPGs, all the MMOs. all the driving games like Forza, F1 Project Cars etc etc that require you to spend some time playing the game before letting you enter more advanced races or unlocking faster/better cars etc etc.

I'm not talking about level unlock. That took some form of problem solving. It's up to you if it takes minutes or weeks.

By problem solving, I mean some puzzle (say, a scenario that required you saving hostages or disarming some traps or a boss battle). That's not "handing" anything on a plate. You misunderstood me.

Something like an MMO is handing everything to you. They rarely, if ever, offer stimulating or challenging gameplay. It's just grinding and going through rote actions and mindless enemies. Except maybe Raid bosses (if that).

Is the keyword here 'only'? ... as I understood it 'A game that rewards you only because of time investment (and not skill) is a piece of shit.' Grind fests?

I dont even know. Im having trouble processing what was said.

Suddenly scenarios that required you saving hostages or disarming some traps or a boss battle is too much of a grind or time investment. a game is shit because it doesnt give you everything at the start. Any game that requires some form of time investment to get anywhere is shit.

I suppose.

A game that revolves around puzzles could take forever.. and even seem like a grind.. and yet be actually stimulating and fun. At the same time, it could happen on your first try. It's up to you. Rather than some arbitrary time investment.

Consider, for example, a racing game that wouldn't let you advance to a new track unless you unlocked enough "1st place" trophies in a driving class. That CAN be pretty grindy, but at the same time, it revolves around actual gameplay and trying to figure out how to maintain the highest speeds and knowing the track enough to time your turns without slowing your times down too much. You could be at it for days, but when you finally hit it, it's one of those triumphant moments that makes you relieved and yell in your room or something. YES! Grindy games will never make you feel that way.

Same goes for getting past a tough boss and figuring out how he times his attacks. It could happen in your first or second try -- or you could be pulling out your hair for weeks. Or how about getting all the coins in a Sonic the Hedgehog level. All of these revolve around Pattern Recognition. Not time.
