My current monitor is rather old, but still works... one of the first 24" LCD monitors on the market, the DELL 2405 FPW 24" 1920x1200 pixels. Can be found here 2nd hand on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BKV26A/?tag=tec06d-20 . It's still works great, no dead pixels. The backlight may be going dimmer with age, but hard to tell since I've used it for so long. The thing owes me nothing.

I'm totally on the fence about what to get for a video card, it'll be either a GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti (depends on the price), or a Vega 56, Vega 64 (Again price)

My decision solely rests on Free-Sync. I will not (WILL NOT, WILL NOT, repeat WILL NOT) buy a monitor with a $200-$300 premium for G-Sync. I will consider a new monitor up to 34", 2k resolution with Free-Sync.

I do have other options, but I've narrowed my choices down to buying either:
  1. GTX 1070 or 1070 Ti and keep my 2405 FPW monitor
  2. Vega 56 or 64 and replace the 2405 FPW monitor with up to 34" with Free-Sync
Is Free-Sync worth it? I'm a light gamer most of the year, but get into it during the winter months.

Also... does anyone have hands on with the new Vega "Adaptive Sync"?

Hmmm.... Well in that case I would go the AMD route with a new free-sync monitor.
That's just my opinion though...

Sounds your mind is set, go Vega. Honestly these current gpus drive monitors without those functions just fine.

I'd say wait till custom vega cards appear though.

Nvidia - card availability/price = premium price for gsync monitor
AMD - premium price on card due lack of availability = afforfable monitor with free sync

IMO both side equals out lol when it come down to it which tech do you prefer but ur set on freesync so i vote new 34/vega
