Well it seems like a decent card overall. Its odd that it exists to begin with in my book only because its so very close to the 1080. No wonder they don't want factory overclocked models to be released since the overclock results put it above the 1080 lol (Granted you can overclock the 1080 to which will keep it on top).

Pretty good, but not really anything anyone with a 1070 or higher would care about. Still pretty content with my Vega 64 for 3440x1440 gaming.

Might push down 1070 prices though which could make that a better buy.

Yeah they got to do something to gtx1070 pricing or EOL it all together.

When I updated graphics card pricing for this review I saw lots of Vega in stock now. Must have come in in the last days

1st time a GPU manufacturer makes a model just 5% lower in performance than another model of them. And the reason is one and only. Vega 56. Which btw it is now close or on its MSRP. I don't judge nVidia's action as bad. It clearly shows their strategy in the market. They firstly made 1060 3GB to answer to 470 4GB being the best GPU for its VFM, then put faster VRAM in 1060 and 1080 as a refresh to respond to upcoming 570 and 580 and now this. Let's see how it goes from here on with Vega custom models coming soon and prices starting to normalise again.

OK, Let's do the math to get at the answer we all wanna know

"Vega 64 is 4% faster" ... so lets give it a base of 104 to the 1070's 100

The FE 1070 Ti overclocks 14.18%. Tho, the TPU article didn't include OC'ing the OCs on Vega 64 averaged 5% On Guru3D

Vega 64 = 104 x 1.05 = 109.2
1070 Ti = 100 x 1.14 = 114.0

If I were looking at getting one of these 1070ti I would easily choose the 1080 or a vega ( @Msrp) over this

Yeah they are now easily obtainable. Seeing four custom models of gtx1070ti mentioned on OC site made me wonder that were are the custom models of Vega⁵⁶. Do you have any of them waiting in your review queue?

Is it possible to have further details in the OC section since this card is supposedly memory starved, as in OC only the memory and leave the core as is. The results are already showing a 15% ram OC and 12% core OC gains 14% extra frames. It would be nice to see how much extra performance it will gain with memory OC alone.

This has been nVidias modus operandi for quite some time. For a while now, they have held back their top tier card after confirming that their planned 2nd tier outperformed AMDs top tier. Those 780 Ti, 980 Ti and 1080 Ti designs sat on the shelf until AMD came up with something to challenge. The 560 Ti 448 was a similar performing release which, like the 560 Ti and 650 Ti had the downside that those cards in SLI topped the 580 and 680 two tiers above. nVidia's been playing the game since of trying to produce mid tier cards at a price point where using two in SLI wouldn't cannibalize top tier sales .... and have had good success here in this generation. Tho I can't help but wonder if they are gimping SLI performance intentionally at resolutions 1440p and under; hard to make a case these days for SLI outside of 2160p. In addition, with the 7xx, 9xx and 10xx series, the x80 sorta got lost between the x70 and x80 Ti immediately upon the Ti's release. There thoughts on making it close to the 1080 I imagine followed the fact that the 1080 wasn't selling too well as it was ... even after significant price cuts which significantly outpaced the 1070 / 1080 Ti. So the closeness of the performance and prce structure really doesn't seem too odd when looking at the whole market situation.

Having been satisfied with owning the top 3 tiers for several generations, nVidia is now attacking the mid tiers. They started this with selling the 970 for far lass than the market would have otherwise allowed and that crushed AMD sales as the price bump from the next lowest tier was minimal.. They were sitting pretty from the 1060 on up, so why not take a shot at the 470 with the 1060 3 GB model ? With a potential threat to the 1070, nVidia saw an opportunity to put more pressure on AMD using excess Pascal inventory.

Meh, my Founders Edition PNY GTX1070 does 2080 Mhz and 2450 Mhz in Memory. I rather wait for something newer, not even the 1080Ti is a worth upgrade in my opinion.

gtx1080se or gtx1070ti. In my opinion it's better to have clear difference in names rather than like they called different core configured gtx1060 3GB and gtx1060 6GB.

ok not even an upgrade for a non Ti 1070 ... let's just hope it will drop the 1070 price to something acceptable (well with my luck it will drop it to launch MSRP which i didn't see at all ) oh wait ... that's a cons ... that would mean a lower resell price for my 1070 (since i wouldn't buy a second one for SLI but rather a 1080Ti or a RX Vega 64)

You know thats a good point, or similarly why didn't they call it the GTX 1080 SE since the "SE" used to designated the slightly lower core count versions of the same card in that lineup. Would work perfectly for this situation in my opinion.

I don't get why you prefer Vega over this. it's much more efficient so it can run cooler and quieter than Vega and with overclocking it can be faster than both OCed Vega 56 and OCed Vega 64.

I chose Vega since I had a Freesync monitor. Also I opencl more than gaming nowadays.
