I want to upgrade my stock cooler, but Im not sure what to go for  Ive got my eye on the "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro", coz Ive used the skt939 version and it was awesome!

I want the cooler to be good for overclocking, yet quieter then the retail Core2Duo heatsink & fan.

Any advice would be great guys ;)

For pure price reasons the AC Freezer Pro rocks. It has by far the best performance for the money. Exeptional cooling power on a budget.
Better designs are the Titan Armanda(frickin' huge), the Zalman CNPS 9700Cu, Zerotherm BTF90, CoolerMaster GeminII (with 2x 120mm fans), Tuniq Tower 120. the list is endless

I would recommend that cooler Hookey, I have one and it works excellent for the price! It's not too big, but it is very effective at cooling my CPU. My OC'd C2D (3.36 from 1.86, stock 1.325 vcore) runs at ~22C idle and ~42C load!

Yeah, good HS's for sure, it depends on your needs and how much OC you need, and how much voltage you need to get to that OC to keep it stable. Because if I needed more voltage to get to 3.36, I would probably end up having to 1. Set the fan speed to 100% constantly, which ATM I have it set to performance mode in my Bios, so it runs at 50-100% depending on temps. 2. if that didn't work find a better cooler.

Those are definately things to keep in mind, but with C2D's running cool and not needing too much voltage increase if any for a great OC, it depends how much money you want to spend. Find your OC limit at minimal vcore increase from stock (if any), that will give you a good idea of how much you should spend. If you can't get as far as you'd like at stock vcore, then you may want to consider a more powerful HS to compensate for the extra heat output from voltage increase. Hope that helps!

Scythe Infinity with dual fans or quad fans is the best air cooler. If your using a single fan it's the tuniq tower

I beg to differ about the noise. The Ultra-X comes with a fan controller. I set it on low, and it is nearly silence with no real compromise at full load.

I'm talking at full cooling potential. Running full out the scythe is almost silent. You do have a very good cooler but the scythe also points and directs the heat right into the rear 120 fan so if you use a dual fan set up it's like having 3, 120mm fans lined up dragging heat From your case. My rear case fan is less than a mm from the rear 120mm fan of my Dual Scythe infinity set up it is like a wind tunnel in my case. It also very very quiet. The total push pull of my heat sink is 154 CF and it's silent and firing it drectly from the heatsink out the case. If I would be using say 3 ,70 cf + fans imagine the effect, however, it would be loud. plus if needed , but I don't see how or why, I could add 2 more 120mm fans to my heat sink. That could give me a CF level approaching 300 CF and that would be just the heatsink. I would then need a pilots license for my case and ear muffs for surfing the web.

I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I just put it on last night and the difference is amazing, even before AS5 has had a chance to "burn-in" properly. I went from 43c idle/59c load on the stock cooler to 34c idle/45c load on the Freezer. My Freezer is also lapped. Also consider the weight of the units. There are guidelines for weight and out of all the coolers listed in this thread the Freezer is the lightest. What that means is prolonged life of your hardware due to less strain put on the motherboard. I read an article on it somewhere, let me see if I can dig it up.

From the article:
The total mass of 520 grams is very modest for a high performance heatsink/fan, exceeding Intel and AMD recommendations by only 70 grams. Many high end heatsinks are far weightier, often approaching a whole kg, which does not bode well for a vertically mounted motherboard, especially with tall heatsinks that apply a lot of cantilever force on the mounting points and the board. Nothing like that to worry about here.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Review

If you read page 5 of the review they benchmark the fan versus the Scythe Ninja w/ AcoustiFan 120 and the Thermalright XP-120 w/ AcoustiFan 120. The Freezer beats both.

Tom, does the scythe flex the motherboard at all? How easy did it install on the EVGA board (I have the same board). Also, how many of those fans came with it?

Oh, and will it fit in a mid tower case? I think I might test it out in my second rig...
