I got a Win 7 BSOD -- What do they Mean and how to prevent them?

I tend to put my rig in Sleep mode when I'm not using it. Just now, after waking it from sleep and inserting my wi-fi adapter into one of the front panel USB 2.0 ports, I got a BSOD; I've gotten them before (and usually had to turn off my PC) but this one barely lasted maybe 5 seconds before going to a black screen and then rebooting. I booted into normal mode of Windows, only to have it happen again. Same duration. On the second boot, everything booted up just fine. I know next to nothing about BSODs, but do know they aren't exactly good things for your PC. What exactly causes them and should I be worried?

Also, once I was able to boot into Windows after the 2nd BSOD, I got this Window popup about Windows having sucessfully recovered from an unexpected shutdown, and this whole list of details about the problem...but I don't understand any of it. Here it is if anyone wants to help:

What it means is to look them up, get bluescreen view, or make windows 10 show old blue screen information.

Step 1: Disable automatic restarting on system error.
1. Search for/open/run "System"
2. On the left of the System screen, click on "Advanced system settings."
3. "Advanced" tab (should already be selected).
4. Under "Startup and Recovery," click "Settings"
5. Clear the check box next to "Automatically restart."
6. OK out of everything and close everything else back to the desktop.

Next time it BSODs, the BSOD will stay until power is lost or system is restarted. Note the STOP code (e.g. 0x0000000A) and the file the fault occurred in, if any (e.g. via.sys). Those two bits of information go a long way to finding the root cause of it.

in your case it means window dosnt like you wifi dongle.. its a system crash.. a problem with the dongle or its drivers.. try another dongle before doing anything else.. they are pretty cheap..

The issue is, your asking for help but the title looks like a BSOD answer sheet. Also you have over 200 posts and your asking for help, you should know by now we need you to fill out your system spec's as it helps us help you.

BSOD Means either a hardware problem or a software / Driver issue. Again your system specs would be most helpful

Windows 10 doesn't show it directly like Windows 7 or older, 8 i am unsure about.

By the way, aumha.org is a pretty good reference, it hasn't been updated though to cover 10 but most bsods that are there are also found in 10

You can see the error in the event log. Its just like a ODB II code. Ether its a bad signal or hard error. You can look it up online

Bad signal like a power code when the pcie slot is dirty

Go into Event Viewer, view System logs, look for BUGCHECK. Find the 0x BCCode, Google that. That's where I'd start.

It shows the name of the stop code rather than the number unless there isn't a name for it. For example, I've seen IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL.

Go into Event Viewer, view System logs, look for BUGCHECK. Find the 0x BCCode, Google that. That's where I'd start.

FYI, no event will be logged if the BSOD is in the storage subsystem. If it attempts to write it, it could end up overwriting important data, so it doesn't. It always displays something though if it was, in fact, a BSOD because there's no risk in permanent damage doing so.

Most recent one I got was because of a shoddy USB cable on my external DAC. Before that was a plethora of BSODs on an SSD that didn't support newer chipsets. They still happen if the conditions are right.

They happen for the same reasons on 10 as they do prior os's. For the most part, if you got a bsod for a reason in 10, youd get it on down.

Well I'm sorry to you and everyone else, I guess. I was merely asking about BSODs. Obviously I don't know anything about them, otherwise I wouldn't be asking about them in a thread, lol.
