I recently bought a RX 580 to replace a working r9 280x and the new card does not have any signal even at bios. I have a MSI z97 Gaming 5 motherboard with the newest bios they have and also am using UEFI. The card lights up and it looks like it is booting into windows going my the debug LCD on the motherboard. This is my second 580 card that I have tried and same result. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Try card in another machine or breadboard your current 1, clear cmos on motherboard, ensure you have card in correct slot as per your motherboard manual.
Check video input setting on monitor/tv, check all connections, ensure power supply is plugged into the card

I agree with the above post ,if it's happened with two separate cards in the same machine ,the chances are good that it's not the cards but the motherboard, the motherboard software ,or the machine itself. Bread boarding or troubleshooting will be your best bet followed up (depending on how easy it would be to use another pc)with trying it in another machine entirely

This and you could double check that the cards fully inserting in to the motherboard, and i take it you did not forget to plug in the cable's for the 580 card.

What PSU are you using as to little current on the 2x8 pin power connectors will cause a no boot remember the R9-280X draws a lot less power than the RX580

Are you able to load into cmos with the rx580 installed? Did you also buy the cards brand new? If you didn't be aware the cards may have been ran hard and possibly had their bios messed with for mining. Try flicking the bios switch on the card and see what happens.

280x and a RX580 are made by AMD but they're different video cards. With different technologies, different power draw etc. that may be the reason the 580 isnt working, (whatever the differences are between the two may be what's causing the issue), increased power draw or something to that effect. Who knows ,maybe even your motherboard bios isn't compatible in its current version and you need to update to a newer motherboard bios.
I guess my point would be that ,if your issue doesn't show itself in a specific situation, it doesn't mean that the issue doesn't exist, it just means that the specific situation isn't triggering it. if i had a broken foot, and sat all day, I wouldnt feel any pain.....but if i were to get up and walk around, i would feel pain. Its not that there was no issue, its just that i wouldnt be triggering the issue to cause pain while sitting down. my guess is your 280x simply isnt triggering the problem
