Hello TPU members and lurkers,

Near the end of 2016, I created the topic Games you beat (2016) for people to essentially list the games that they beat in 2016. I decided to do the same thing again this year. The purpose of these topics is to have a recap of games you've played and have completed this year for recap's sake and also as a study to see the trend going forward. As with last year, I consider the games to be finished once we see the end credits roll out (or other similar version) but not all games have these (sports, racing, sims), so for those games, you decide for yourself whether you've already finished the game essentially or not. No platform is restrictive here, whether you beat it on PC, consoles, emulators, web, phones or a calculator, they all count. It would also be neat if you can share what games (or moments but please put them in spoiler tags) you think deserve a highlight so that others may take an interest in them as well. With that said, I'll start first.
  1. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC)
  2. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (PC)
  3. Child of Light (PC)
  4. Life is Strange (PC)
  5. NBA 2K17 (PC)
  6. Raptor: Call of the Shadows (PC)
  7. Rayman Legends (PC)
  8. Rayman Fiesta Run (W10M)
  9. Final Fantasy XIII (PC)
  10. Mad Max (PC)
  11. Genji: Dawn of the Samurai (PS2)
  12. Far Cry 4 (PC)
  13. Grey Goo (PC)
  14. Bayonetta (PC)
  15. Vanquish (PC)
  16. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP)
  17. Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC)
  18. Superstar (PC)
  19. Ori and the Blind Forest (PC)
  20. Victor Vran (PC)
  21. ReCore (PC)
  22. Strider (PC)
  23. Metro: Last Light (PC)
  24. Zeno Clash II (PC)
  25. Resident Evil 0 HD REMASTER (PC)
  26. Doki Doki Literature Club (PC)
  27. Wild Arms 2 (PSX)
The best games that I really, really enjoyed playing are Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (I love how it wraps up the series), Life is Strange (nearly shed a tear during certain scenes), Rayman Legends and Ori and the Blind Forest (fun and well executed platformers) and FarCry 4 (basically FC3 but just better). Honorable mentions include, Child of Light, Mad Max, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Doki Doki Literature Club (it's a nice twist LOL).

Last year I beat 29 games but this year, I got around to complete "only" 27. Still, I am very much motivated to try and beat just as many games as I can in 2018, getting older does not demotivate me (hopefully). To close off this OP, I would like to wish happy holidays for everyone reading this and try to greet 2018 with a smile. :D

I don't know what kind of job you do but for sure mine won't allow me to complete/beat not even 5 Games in a year, however, to beat 27 Games in a year means that you have a lot of time.

I'm just a programmer. I spend around 2-3 hours per day on weekdays and about 6-10 hours on weekends to play games. I do think the list will be lower as time goes by but that's also why I decided to do this topic in the first place.

Although I haven't formally taken the time to address each title, I can postulate that, due to my advanced capabilities in gaming ,and overall greatness in whatever I apply myself to ,
that I would beat them all.

if you feel like this is boasting, id point you toward my signature below, and how i found the hidden settings for that.

thats funny :pimp:

ive always found it interesting the way 30 & 40 somethings have an innate ability to play games, and navigate (almost instinctively) through video game titles of all kinds. Many people never pay it much mind, but if you watch someone who would fall in my parents age group/generation for example. being born in the (1930's, or 1920's) they dont have that (born in ) ability to use almost any (intuitive) gaming controller ,without any issue. Next time you have an older person ( in the 60's age group) at your disposal, have them try playing a game, often, you'll notice they have to look at the controller (or keyboard), and simple things like common "jump button" placement, etc, escapes them, as they havent been inundated with it all their lives. I know its basic repetition/practice , but it is interesting IMO. when my father was sick with Cancer, and house ridden, he LOVED playing Mario World on the Nintendo 64. He would spend hours and hours each day, sitting in front of that TV, and loving every second of it. To Him (at first) it was SO amazing to have an entire world inside of a console (he grew up before TV was invented, so it was sitting in front of a Living room Radio for him) Thats when i first realized the disparity in generational gaming ability (which is also why my kids & nephews will never outgame my abilities, as ive been doing it for a LOT longer than they have :) ). My damn African Grey wouldnt Stop with the damn "Lets Go!" and the "Woo Hoo"! that MArio was always saying in that title....that or the damn coin sound when You pick them up. (in case your unfamiliar, African Greys are VERY good at picking up sounds & mimmicking them for years & years after hearing them). Microwaves, phones etc.

Well, I do remember the old thread.
As of then I only added few more games to my 100% achievements, or too boring to go to 100% but close enough:
- Bioshock Remastered
- Bioshock 2 Remastered
- Witcher 2 (after 3 or so playthroughs over the past few years I just found out that I can play a completely new Scoia'tael story, which for some reason I missed)
- Skyrim (once again, thx to that stupid Special Edition)
- Valley
- DOOM (only 5 multiplayer achievements left to grind).

Then I spent the rest of the year playing Witcher 3 - The best game to ever exist.

When it comes to achievements, my OCD always kicks in. That's why my games library is usually slacking 2-3 years behind, and I can finally afford to waste cash on broken stuff and new tools, rather than games.

This is the list I finished first playthrough this year:
Titanfall 2
Wolfenstein II The New Colossus
CoD Infinite Warfare
CoD WWII

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (very good, should have played it back then)
Battlefield 1 SP
CnC Red Alert Soviet campaign (yes the 1995 one)

And few games I finished multiples times:
GTA San Andreas, I think 2 times this year alone from start to finish, not 100% but all main mission is done which made it 11th time I played it since 2005
Max Payne my 4th playthrough
Wolfenstein The New Order on different timeline

I think that's that. If I going to give Game Of The Year for 2017, I'd give to Titanfall 2 for its awesome singleplayer campaign but it was released last year. It gives me vibes from playing Singularity, there is some great moments in that game. Both CoD WWII and personal anticipated Wolfenstein II really is underwhelming, in CoD they messed up everything and made DDay seems like peanuts and more of B rated movies with tons of cutscenes, in Wolf 2 they made B.J we all know and loved from a 2 meter tall tank to a wimpy flaccid limp in power armor with half health nearly the entire game and making thing worse the story sucks.

@silentbogo I tried Bioshock 2 Remastered sometime this year but never got into it. Hopefully I can find the motivation to beat that next year cause it's the only Bioshock title I haven't completed yet.

Holy crap that's a lot of games.

I have 90 hrs in Andromeda (not 100% done but finished the story), 37 hrs in Prey (completed), 15 hrs in DOOM (completed), 30 hrs into GR:Wildlands (30% through the game), and Wolfestein 2 is installed and ready to play but that's gonna have to wait until I finish Wildlands.

So many other games I wanted to play, but haven't had time to
-Destiny 2 (only played the trial)
-Titanfall 2
--Dishonored 2 Death of the Outsider
-Battlefront 2
-Nier

Yeah, it was somewhere in-betweener... Not as revolutionary as the first one, and not as great or spectacular as the Infinite.
The game was not bad by any means... It is very good, but there were so many things in it that were stitched together as an afterthought, that it's just not as interesting as you expect it to be.
Minerva's den was cool, though.

I guess that the reason why i don't complete a Game it's not because my Job or because i don't have time but the way i play, what i mean is that i buy 3 or 4 Games and instead to play just one and complete it i play all of them, i get bored if i play just one Game.

One Game i have completed this year is Need for speed, if i am not mistaken it tooks me 1 day to complete it

Finally finished a lot of games i wanted to play for a long time in my backlog (but ultimately added more anyway so this is a lost cause)
It was easy to list since i usually review everything I play on steam and on a site i am a currently a review writer

They are Billions
Hello Neighbor
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Mad Max
Splinter Cell Blacklist
Orwell
Shrouded Isle
Dishonored 2(thanks to @rtwjunkie giveaway)
Shadow of Mordor
Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
Skyrim(replayed and finished again)

Special Mentions: Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, Elite Dangerous, Ark Survival, Prison Architect, 7 Days to Die, Rainbow Six Siege, CSGO

Quick summary:
  • I've enjoyed alot of PUBG since alot of my friends play it and it's like dayz without the buggy and boring parts. it has replaced CSGO as my go-to multiplayer game
  • Finished a lot of 10-20 hr long storybased singleplayer games, with The Witcher 3 standing out among the rest with 70+ hrs of gameplay and i'm not even playing at the highest difficulty and didn't finish all the side quests and DLC
  • Mostly played the games way after their release date(that way I get a more stable version and a way cheaper price)
  • Elite Dangerous was a fun MMORPG since i like space sims but kinda sad to play since i have no friends who play it
  • Fuck Dota 2, I stopped playing it and will never go back to it again.
I wanted to play Mount and Blade: Bannerlord so badly this year but unfortunately it didn't have a release date(AGAIN) this year. hopefully next year it will finally come

I was expecting to see just games that came out in 2017 due to the misleading title. Kinda strange to see someone with such a long list of games take until now to play some of those titles. Or maybe this is just a look what I did with all my time this year thread.

Anyways, I'll play along, but in accordance with what I thought the thread title meant. The titles I've beaten that came out this year are, RE7, Wolfenstein II, Call of Duty WWII, Middle Earth Shadow of War, The Evil Within 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, Sniper Elite 4, Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I also have DiRT 4, Prey, and Project Cars 2, but haven't found them interesting enough to finish yet. Of the above games Ghost Recon Wildlands is by far my fave, with Sniper Elite 4, Shadow of War and Wolfenstein II coming in as a tie for distant 2nd.

With my 2nd daughter newborn, I am lucky for a quick match on SC:Remastered. :) I think the only game I completed this year is Skyforce on my phone. I am mildly tempted by Prey and Deserts of Kharak. But the more I think about the games...it's just every minute you put into a game is a lost minute. No matter how you present it to yourself: a hobby, a time out, a fun time...in the end of the day it is simply lost. And this is bugging me, because I still love all the work that goes into making a game: the OST, the concept art, the actual mechanics.

@kurosagi01 Is Tales of Berseria any good (story and localization wise)? It's among the JRPGs I plan on buying next year. I played the demo and thought's the battle system is fun enough.
