No price as of right now. Will be announced at a later date. (Source: Website
New resolution is 2880 x 1600 (78% increase from 2160×1200 of the original Vive).
Supports SteamVR 1.0 and 2.0 tracking (Backwards compataible).
There will be an HMD-Only purchase option, allowing you to use the same controllers and basestations.

The freaking 78% increase in resolution is gonna require some serious muscular GPU to power. We are talking about 2880*1600 at a constant 90FPS.

WE NEED VOLTA/AMPREE NOW!

Good to see a bump in specs.

2880x1600 is an improvement and the screen door effect should be minimized because of it but it 4K would have been better IMO. True enough that the video subsystem prowess necessary would be considerable but higher resolution and broader FOV is what a lot of people want.

As much as I love current gen VR, the biggest problem remains to be locomotion. Teleportation or dashing simply breaks immersive experience.

Who ever comes out with the first ever good leg tracking and locomotion will completely dominate VR.

Or we can all just wait for neural implants based AR/VR

Well I think some VR games might just be designed poorly and may be VR sickness inducing. Some people are also just more susceptible to VR sickness / motion sickness. Finally, as we grow older the liquid in our inner ear increases in viscosity thus decreasing resistance to such things.

VR locomotion is an issue to be sure though.

For what it’s worth, while I have an Oculus Rift, IMO the HTC Vive is the superior product. I really like to see the Vive 2.0 HMD having backward compatibility with the 1.0 lighthouse and it lays out a reasonable upgrade path (of just the HMD).

Now the onus is on Oculus to up their Rift (2.0) HMD offering’s resolution and do it with existing tracking backward compatibility. Oculus also needs to do it with more sensors and increase the area plays space akin to what Vive 2.0 has offered. All for the same price or less (whatever that might be). Anything less is admitting defeat and I’ve seen nothing on that front so far.

Yea deep down inside I want a pimax, but that hinges on how long it takes them to patch up the issues and if they do patch up the issues.
However, falling back to the Pro while less ideal is ok, depending on how much they price it for.

There will undoubtedly be more reviews of the pimax when it gets to all the kickstarter backers, mine probably won't be here for another month or two. It's okay tho, until then I've figured out how to make my oculus rift a lot sharper (by adjusting it vertically) and their new software updates have really added a lot of interest to it. I like their multi-tasking update, and plus this way I'll have two VR headsets (no clue what I'll do with two lol).
