Corsair 360mm AIO still doesn't beat the Corsair H110GT... why?

Why is the 110 gt still the best cooler and why does corsair not make it anymore? its by far better than everything else... very confused.

It seems that Corsair is simply renaming things for 2016.

• H80i GT is now the H80i V2.
• H100i GTX is now the H100i V2.
• H110i GT is now the H110i.
• H110i GTX is now the H115i.

Couple of reasons......

One: AIOs are moving from performance to silence. Customers wanted less noise, so that is where the coolers are going now.

Two: I had issues with mine. That is about all I can say, but with pre-production units going out to reviewers, things can happen. It is possible that reviewer just didn't notice.

The review at here at TPU shows it in a favorable light, but then again, the H110 is not in the list.

Well, I don't know how it stacks up against other models, new or old, but my 2016-ish H110i GT is still running like a champ, and keeps my 6700k/4.8 running in the mid-to-high 20's all the time, even with really heavy workloads

However, I chose to replace the factory fans with my AF140's w/Red LED's though, mainly to match the rest of my build scheme.

Simple, the size of the radiator(or rather the surface area) is not the limiting factor for these coolers. I'd guess it is the slow pump and slow fluid flow that actually limits how much heat can be pulled away from the CPU.

The benefit of the 360 rad isn't better performance when everything else is equal, instead it is to allow people to run 3 slower RPM fans instead of 2 higher RPM fans, for quieter operation.

The thing is, H115i PRO has two much quieter 140 mm fans on a 280 rad at much lower price making H150i PRO pointless UNLESS you go for the maximum performance with high RPM fans or 280 rad does not fit your case.

Its pretty simple as Sneeky pointed out it comes down to noise level.

Take a look at say an H100i V2 noise levels at maximum performance even with 2 fans which spin at 2400 or so RPM.
When I tested the H105 with similar fans it hit 54 dBA when offering maximum performance. the H150i Pro hits just 42 dBA with fans spinning at 1600 RPM

The H110i being a 280mm based unit with 140mm fans simply moves more air as it has fans spinning at 2100 RPM.

Simple fact higher RPM = more noise but also greater airflow. Going by Corsairs own specifications the H110i has fans that push 113 CFM meanwhile the H150i has fans that only push 47 CFM 47 x 3 vs 113 x 2 The 280 mm based H110 has a theoretical max airflow of 226 CFM vs the H150i at 141 CFM.

Essentially the reason for the small 280mm based units superior performance is simply greater airflow. These Asetek based units really don't scale beyond 240 / 280mm.

Corsair has taken a design that typically for 120mm based regularly hit 50+ dBA and dropped it down to 42 dBA. Such a huge drop in noise from an 800-1000 RPM loss on the fans maximum RPM means performance will of course suffer. However no more leaf blower noise either.

The thing is, H115i PRO has two much quieter 140 mm fans on a 280 rad at much lower price making H150i PRO pointless UNLESS you go for the maximum performance with high RPM fans or 280 rad does not fit your case.

Cheap crappy SP fans vs Magnetic Levitation bearings. The higher cost is due to better quality fans. No if you dont need them or RGB the older designs are a better value. However those that would generally change the fans to Noctua or something else. Well thats no longer necessary. The ML fans are what is driving up cost.

Yes and it makes more sense however the review and OP is talking about the H110i GT which uses SP fans i just saw H115 and immediately though H110i / GT /w.e other fucking name they have called it thus far.

Then again having helped design an AIO I don't really see the benefit to a lot of the decisions companies make with the Asetek units to begin with but thats just me.

They just need to make some with like the HAF in mind to use a 230mm Rad and fan to match. Get the best of large rad and Super quiet fan operation

Don't make the mistake of thinking that 140mm fans are quieter just because they are 140mm. Yes, if you run the fans at full speed, the fans on the H150i are louder, but the reality is in real use the H150i fans spin much slower. That is why the H150i is much quieter than the H110i in the Guru3D's tests the Op posted. The "Balanced Mode" fan settings that Guru3D used for their testing only has the fans maxing out at 550RPM under load. My H110iGTX runs the fans at over 800RPM just at idle.

ML140 is so much quieter than old SP140 that you should not make cross comparisons. It gets very difficult to to even quantify if three ML120s (as a 12cm fan, they need to run at significantly higher RPM than ML140 to move same amount of air per a fan) or two ML140 is any better performer at same noise level. There is a price difference though.

I used to do AIO liquid cooler reviews for certain other tech site, and I tested every cooler at 100 rpm steps and plot CPU temp & noise level in same graph.
Would love to see more detailed testing in the future for example CPU temp with all coolers at same fixed dbA level.

I like Corsair pumps.

My H 100 pump has done very well despite me blowing up the fan controller pcb, changing the pipes for some off a broken tyre pump and me swapping the 240 rad for a 120 it just keeps on trucking.

When i play Gtav at 4.4 ghz on my excellent Xeon i hit 68 C.

Yes, just look at the Guru3D review the OP posted. Yes, the H150i cooled slightly worse, but the fans were only running at 550RPM. I don't know why they chose to run their tests in this mode instead of using a more aggressive fan curve, but it does go to show how slow the fans can run and still maintain good temperatures. To put that in perspective, the minimum RPM on the ML series fans(both ML120 and ML140) is 400RPM. And at the end of the day, this resulted in a noise level that is basically half that of the H110i GT.

And at the end of the day, that is what the OP needs to realize about the Guru3D review. Yes, the H110i GT beats the H150i Pro by about 6°C under high load. But the H150i GT is also half as loud thanks to the extremely low RPM they are running the fans at.
