"For NVIDIA, gamers come first. All activities related to our GeForce product line are targeted at our main audience. To ensure that GeForce gamers continue to have good GeForce graphics card availability in the current situation, we recommend that our trading partners make the appropriate arrangements to meet gamers’ needs as usual."

https://www.techspot.com/amp/news/7...cs-card-retailers-prioritize-gamers-over.html

I say about time! I hope AMD adopts a similar stance. While Nvidia can't force retailers to abide by their wishes, something needs to be done to ensure virtually all GPUs don't get snagged by the miners. There's no way Joe or Jane Gamer is willing to pay the markups we are now seeing on the mid-high level graphics hardware.

While this news may seem interesting to you, to me it just smells of bullshit.

How is a retailer going to know whether a card is purchased by a gamer or a miner? I am a gamer, don't mine, but I have a family of six, and have many PCs of my own. I am a normal guy that will buy 8-10 cards at a time and upgrade my entire family.

This is simple PR alone, and that's all.

Newegg has been doing this since years start, in the form of two card per person limits. While I have repeatedly applauded them for it, quantity limits are a joke to get around with friends and family.

Guess what many miners will do?

tl;dr: This is more gesture than action.

Mining is a pest, out hungers gpu marked (every store in my country has nearly all gpu sold out), force prices up, wasting electricety and causes more polution, us gamers have a hard time to get a gpu and some times to over price. And then there are the risk of crypto marked to collaps and we have al ready seen sign of potenteally collaps with dramatic fall in bitcoin value.

Im glad i got my 1080 ti back in july 2017 cause have waited to now had been a bad move.

Its so bad now that even nvidia them self tells stores not to sell so many cards and it shut else only benefits nvidia to sell more gpu's unless nvidia cant keep up with the demand and thats its what nvidia cant. They cant keep up with demand.

Edit: just tjeck evga eu page. Now they only alows one card per order, back in july 2017 where i ordered my 1080 ti card from evga they alowed two cards per order. Thing realy has since then gone from bad to worse.

Retailers aren't the problem. It's AIBs selling cards by the pallet to miners. They never even reach retail.

Mining benefits miners & it also benefits retailers ,as long as there's money to be made those who are going to make it ,are going to take it.

The people who really suffer during this whole mining craze are those who don't mine. Which is why I say (again), when the value of the bitcoin drops(or whatever stupid nerd coin it is), and miners start selling off burned up 24/7 100% loaded Biosflashed cards as fast as they can ,don't buy them! Let them pay out all those earnings they gained ,while sitting on the stack of gpu's they horded, as it devalues more and more as every month passes by , The same months that passed by while we were all unable to buy new cards because there was none available.

in the end, im sure they have a bunch of triple return selling the cards, on ebay.

The irony to that idea is most serious miners never actually sell their cards. Mining farms (the main problem) especially don't. Not until they are old as dirt.

Mining isn't really destructive to cards anymore anyways, so the whole point of "burning miners" with that really only hurts you and the smalltime miners who are probably gamers too.

It also hurts supply even more. I really can't see one good point to your idea, honestly. No offense.

I can only agreed with you. When bitcoin hopefully collaps, let the miners be reminded of that karma sometimes can be a bitch. I will deffently not bay a used gpu that have been used for mining 24/7 in for knows for how long.

I can just imagine this. Miner that has 12 1080 ti unsellable cards after bitcoin collaps and crying he's ass of while every second his bitcoin fortune dissapires out in emty air :nutkick:.

I wasn't considering third party sellers but only the policy of you know, neweggs actual store.

Quite a fantasy. Too bad mining isn't really detectable (or even harmful anymore) and nearly all miners have already hit ROI.

I personally don't take pleasure in other peoples pain, but hey... whatever.

While this all may seem a good idea, and sound supportive of gamers, in reality, there is no way for a retailer to know. It's feel good PR.

Honestly, a divided product line is the only answer. Set mining cards to be unable to output display, and gaming cards unable to run mining tasks.

Fantasy or not. Mining is a pest that does no good for us gamers or the environment. I cut not care less about bitcoin if it dit not cause more polution or out hungers gpu marked, but the fact is it does. It hurts gamers, it hurts manufactures cause they cant keep up with demand, it hurts that world we live in with more polution. So yes mining is in my eyes a pest.

If NVIDIA really cared, this would be their top R&D priority.

Right now I think it's at the bottom of their todo list, down there with things like "make drivers work flawless" and "decide what SLI now stands for?"

Fantasy or not. Mining is a pest that does no good for us gamers or the environment. I cut not care less about bitcoin if it dit not cause more polution or out hungers gpu marked, but the fact is it does. I really doubt it "hurts manufacturers" but it's certainly become a problem of sorts for supplychain.

The irony of your pollution statement is gaming is also 100% pollutant energy for nearly no purpose. Less intense perhaps, and it goes offline more, but philosophically speaking you are the pot calling the kettle black.

What we need is proper product segmentation, as rtwjunkie says. Push nvidia/amd for it and push HARD. They aren't going to listen otherwise.

Without this, I have a strong feeling you'll be left infintely yearning for something that is simply never going to happen, in this case the death of crypto. I find that about as likely as the sun going out at this point honestly.

dorset, pretty much all modern gpu series (vega and pascal) are crypto signed and can't be modded.

This is not a new idea, just a slight extension of it.

While this sounds good I dont think anyone will uphold this. Plus there is a simple workaround this.
A few retailers have already begun to take this into account. CaseKing, Mindfactory, MIX and Alternate all now only sell a maximum of two graphics cards of the same type to any one customer, preventing wholesale purchases wiping out their stock.

This is probably the best idea I've heard, on a forum, in a long time. While I think Nvidia's statement is more fan service than action, for the moment it's a favorable stance. Most people won't need more than a pair of cards at a given time and if you really need more you could order something else or from another retailer.

and you know why
Because someone will do it to make money from crypto Cracked bios and modded Drivers

They said that two years ago. Still waiting.

Okay I have been gone a long time and haven't a clue who the hell are these miners? and how the fuck can they just buy up GPUS? and gobble the market up? I am missing some thing AMD uses there own GPU right? SO????? They MAKE THE GPU right? Then why is there a shortage?

Sorry man, it's sort of like you've been teleported to a very dystopian future where we have to explain to you why humans suck.

That's pretty much what we're going to have to do.

Miners are people who in essence, make money with their graphics cards.

They can buy up gobbles of GPUs because they know they will make money on them, so they do it with that in mind, like a business decision. More graphics cards = more horsepower for money making.

That's the essence of it. It gets much more confusing if you want, but I don't recomend it unless you want some serious "welcome to the future!" shit.

Are you talking about that bitcoin mining?
Any way yeah sounds like there taking too much if they are killing the market. How many are going to pay that kind of cash for there crap other than the miners? then you start to loose money don't you? I mean some where down the line the market will collapse because of the weight put upon it so much so that the card makers will actually start to feel it you would think! Any way I guess they just don't give a f oh well looks like they will have to wait till I feel compelled to change this card then!

They start prescreening customers with questions...
