CPU virus?

I think I may have figured out just what may have been going on with my Q9650 Intel setup. I was wondering just why my setup all the sudden would just stop working, Yep I can start it up and everything would work fine for about 10 min, then say you go to the bathroom, come back and the computer was all locked up!
I would have to turn the system off then back on again,. it would boot up normally no warning screen no windows failed to boot normally nothing but if I hit the restart button, The system would fail to find the HDD! Now I think I know what has happened.
I just heard about some virus or vulnerability in the AMD and Intel CPU's? that can cause this very thing! DID my Q9650 get sick? Can it recover? I still wanna use it but I do not think it is usable anymore.

Run crystal disk to check hd health.your symptoms are indicting possible of hd failure

There was a recently discovered vulnerability (not virus) in some CPUs. This vulnerability has been there forever - it was only recently discovered and it does not cause any CPU to "suddenly" get sick or develop problems. It has nothing to do with this problem. I agree with the others. This points to your HD.

Yeah they didn't go into the issue much just described things that are going on with there setup and it sounded like what this one was doing.
I am replacing the HHD and will get that one up and running soon again.

Yep 3 years is a long time. I like being back it's the best place for help information and plain fun!

Let me just say this.
For one I have never had a computer do anything like this ever. I can turn the thing on and everything is fine 100% of the time all the sudden ( I just started) having a movie playing I would say pause play come back one min later UN-pause nothing system froze up, hit restart HDD not detected, Turn power off ( Hard Boot ) Boots up normally no error messages no windows failed, Boots up like NOTHING was wrong at all. Strangest thing EVER. Any time this has ever happened I got some kind of message from windows saying something went critically wrong ! I have had HDD go out and they have NEVER acted like this EVER!
The only explanation I can figure out is that it IS the HDD motor, the drive motor is going out and it stops not damaging a thing?

Make backups of your data, prepare for the loss of either HDD or Motherboard.Run software tests for HDD, RAM, CPU.
Last i heard Motherboards for your cpu are affordable.

I would look into the HDD first as well.

Backlup your data, image the drive to another known good, stick it in and see if that resolves the issue.

This is how my 2500k system failed. It started hard locking at idle after I walked off for 5 or 10 minutes. I tried many things. In the end I discarded the cpu and motherboard.

Your issue isnt stemming form any cpu vulnerability, it could be a badd hdd or a screwed up win10 update.

No such thing - at least not until Man can create perfection 100% of the time - and I don't see that happening any time soon. Even the best supplies from the best makers can fail prematurely. And since everything inside the computer depends on good, clean reliable power, it would not hurt to swap in a known good PSU to see what happen - especially before spending money on anything else.

Well, you are having issues though. It could be related to the PSU, especially since it's 10 years old, however it's best to check the event viewer and look at the criticals/warnings to see what is happening.

I'm not have any issue at all now. LOL and the PSU is a great PUS! What more can you say? I mean come on 10 years still working that is a testament of not only the quality but to the construction as well. It has seen many systems in fact and seems to be loving the workloads!
