Is my PSU enough for 7820x?

I have been planning to switch to X299 7820x. But I am not sure my PSU would be enough. I have currently Seasonic 650W. I will do a mild overclocking.

I personally wouldn't recommend it, especially if you ever heavily load both the CPU and GPU. 750W, maybe... I'd recommend 850W in that build size. (using your 7820x/x299 build plan)

Seasonic power supplies are typically built a lot tougher than a lot of the brands out there however they do have their limits too. Depending on how hard you are wanting to overclock you may want something a little bit bigger I would go for another Seasonic Unit.

Now just one thing though get yourself a heatware set up here and try to sell your Parts here I believe @Norton maybe interested still too

I would recommend a larger psu, especially since you plan to OC. A 750 or 850w should serve you well though.

@R4k4n0th if you're looking to part out your current system I would be interested. Send me a PM if you would like to discuss it.

Good luck with your new build!

Yeppers! :) That and longevity. Some people tend to use their PSU's for 2 or 3 builds before retiring them. Better to get one 200-250W above your needs to keep the parts away from their max loads so they last longer.

The most that rig will pull even with overclocks is 600w under a peak load. It's fine.

I agree with this. You may run close to 650W when both cpu and gpu are overclocked and running stress tests at the same time, but the psu would handle that too, just not 24/7.
For normal use you're fine. It's not gonna take much more power than your R1700, that 8 core Ryzen is a power hog when under full load as well. I'm not even sure it's gonna take more power at all. You're probably going by TDP, that 65W/95W TDP number on Ryzen 7 is bollocks.

It's better to have some room, that is true. I have 500W of spare psu power myself  but it is not necessary, that seasonic unit will be fine.

honestly - you might want to wait for the 2700x reviews in a few days... might be a cheaper drop in / intel might drop their prices.

It will run, even though it's cutting it closer than I like. I'm like the others, who don't want my PSU running wide open, would rather have longevity and a quiet fan, and stay in the best part of the efficiency curve (50-60% load).

That Seasonic 650W is plenty big - even with considerable overclocking or while full system stress testing, it will still leave nearly 100W to spare. So NO WAY will it be running near 100% or wide open.
and stay in the best part of the efficiency curve (50-60% load).
When a worry, it is only a worry with cheap, basic supplies that don't comply with 80 PLUS standards. But that is not a problem here. The OP has the Seasonic FOCUS Plus. That is "Gold" certified so it only has a 3% deviation from 20% load all the way up to 100% load. And being "Gold" it is extremely efficient across that range anyway at 87 - 90% efficiency! :)

As long as you have good cooling in your case, you can push a quality PSU near capacity all day long. And you will never be doing that.

Remember, it is extremely rare for both the GPU and CPU to be maxed out at the exact same point in time. And those are the big power hogs in our computers. But even when maxed, you won't come near 500W. That CPU is rated at a very efficient 65W TDP. That graphics card is hungry but it still tops out at just 250W. And unless you are running a stress test program, these devices rarely stay near capacity for extended periods of time.

If you currently had some no-name, budget generic power supply, I would recommend a new 650W quality PSU. But that Seasonic is a great PSU to start and is plenty big for your needs. Don't waste your money on anything bigger. 750W is overkill. 850W is way overkill.

BTW, I used 2 x 8GB for your RAM, 4 x 140mm case fans (even though that case only comes with 1 x 120mm and 1 x 140mm), and even added some more wiggle room for capacitor aging.

You might want to update your specs to show how much RAM you have installed and the configuration (for example, 2 x 8GB or 4 x 4GB, etc.).
