Has anyone had any experience using Chrome paint on their case

I'm planning on building my first computer and i'm trying to figure out as much as i can before i start.

I've finally decided on starting with the white tempered glass version of the Fractal Design R6.

I want to make all the exterior surfaces Chrome colored. The interior walls would be the original white of the R6 and as many parts that are silver or chrome colored as i can find. I thought that if the case was all painted the same silver or chrome color would be overkill.

so far i think i have three option:
1. find a local (Chicago) auto spray painting company and having them paint the parts chrome colored. it would be better in quality and color but i imagine it may be hard to find and expensive. i still can't find a good estimate of what this would cost.
2. use a good quality aerosol paint and do it myself. I have the room and some skills in paint but i don't want to put all my time, soul and money in a system that has just an okay finish.
3. there are some new spray paint systems for a chrome finish that use a few different finishes and really look good (check out this video
Aerosol painthttps://youtu.be/c9-wFTUhpT4), but my concern is that they are much more expensive than regular spray paint, and i don't want to find out that i still have a part or two to finish and i'm out of paint.

i apologize for the long long post but i really want to make something special.

Johnny

You can always use chrome / stainless steel / plastic sheet if you're not sure about painting.

Hi Johnny,

First off, welcome to TPU!!! :peace:

Second, when reading your post, the only thing I could think about was the chrome trend going on in the 1990's. Then I thought chrome on a RGB computer would raise the bling bling level to new highs lol, good luck with your build. Post pics when it's finished. Curious to see how it looks, hope it looks better than this "chrome" PC Case.

I think the biggest issue you are going to run into is that for a chrome finish like that to look good when finished, the surface underneath it has to be extremely smooth. Every little imperfection is going to stick out like a sore thumb once you put the chrome finish on.

You aren't going to just be able to buy the case and then chrome paint it.

Sorry to be off topic, but am I the only one seeing massive oversized text in the OP ? Dont know if its a mobile thing or a "other" thing.

I've never used chrome or metallic shiny type paints on a case ,but if you're looking for something that stands out as unique, I recommend finding an automotive paint shop, you could probably talk to someone ,throw 'em 50 bucks ,and theyll do a really nice paint job ,and the best part is ,they can mix the color exactly to your specifications. I have done this, and a buddy of mine does this regularly, and his cases are always amazing. If you want it done right, you really need to drill out any rivets ,and totally disassembled it ,so it's properly done

Why don't cases come in chrome straight from the factory?
Probably due to higher cost (plating and polishing) and lack of general demand

Con: Well, they are fingerprint magnets.
Pro: Would seem to be the next step in the RGB craze. Imagine a chrome P3.

Chrome degrades, on plastic and steel.
I'd rather a stainless steel case.
