im looking for somebody who has a c422 intel chipset motherboard who can test a processor or 2 for me. only members who are active, in good standing with the community, in the states, and have been with techpowerup for over 3years send a pm. i will also need a picture showing the motherboard you will be testing the cpu in with a note card that has your username on it or a piece of paper with that info. ill pay shipping both ways for the processor. i currently have a lga2066 x299 motherboard i will test them next week but in the event they dont post i would like to have them tested in a c422 chipset motherboard to make sure they are non working procs. the procs have no markings on them so i cant tell if they are xeon or "i" series and hence why im asking for somebody with one of these boards to step in.

PM me if you meet the requirements and want to help out. ill send pics to those willing to help.

I will keep you guys updated on how things go with my testing next week and when ive chosen someone if they dont post in my board.

thanks

UPDATE:

i tested the processor on an asus tuf x299 mark 2 and they failed to boot. the next step is to find somebody who can test them in a c422 chipset board and confirm they are duds. xeons wont boot in a x299 board and my suspicion on these procs is thats all they were tested in so they were marked as duds. so if anybody knows somebody who has a c422 board and wants to help a member out send a pm.

thanks

If I remember, c422 compatible chips are not compatible with the x299 chipset, however I have no experience with either of them. Good luck with this.

thats true. they are unmarked procs so i cant tell if they are xeon or "i" series so the only way to tell is test them. didnt work in my asus board and sense i got them cheap i wont really care to much if they dont work. i just dont want to drop money on a c422 board to find out. im hoping they are xeons and the seller sold them as duds because they were tested in a x299 chipset board..

As mentioned, Socket 1151 Kaby Lake C422 Processors won't work in a X299 Motherboard, they will how ever work in a C232 chipset board with a BIOS update.
The best you can hope for though is a Quad core with H.T.

i think you mis understood or im reading your reply wrong but the procs are lga2066 but there are 2 chipsets for this socket, x299 and c422. the first is for the extreme "i" series of procs and the later is for the xeons. they use the same socket 2066 but are proprietary to each chipset.

Nope, C422 chipset according to Intel is for the Processor know as Kaby Lake Socket 1151, if anyone is wrong it is them.

i believe intel needs to update there page after reviewing their site but the fact remains that there are motherboards that are lga2066 with a c422 chipset and will only work with xeons and not the "i" series just like the x299 chipset motherboards wont work with the xeons. google "intel c422 motherboards". i know the difference between lga1151 and lga2066. i build pcs as a hobby. in no way am i trying to be disrepectfull to you. c422 motherboard are not well known and i was surprised to see that intel lacks proper documentation for it witch means you will need to use google to research the boards and the diffence between x299 and c422 motherboards. the article eidairaman1 posted is spot on so i recommend you check it out.

Yeah c422 is categorized as a server chipset whereas x299 is a high-end desktop platform chip set. Even though they share the 2066 pin layout I believe the electrical tracing is different that's the reason why you can't use certain processors in certain sockets. Also c422 is a non overclockable platform.

It is just like how AMD epyc and threadripper is they use the same physical socket but the electrical tracing is different.

Also I will never buy a processor that does not have its identifying markers on it.

If you have a computer shop or megastore, you could probably find a board to test the parts in

the procs are unmarked so i just hope if they were good i did not damage them by putting them in my asus board. when testing them in the asus board it just acted like it did not have a proc in it. so it might be an electrical incompatibility between the 2 or the proc is that dead. just waiting on a few people to reply and hopefully find someone willing to test them.

Fry's, Microcenter are bound to have Server motherboards especially for 2066 platform they can test for you. Ive had to do it before because I don't have parts for everything lol. Its the Xeon-SP socket that is hard to find.

Are you sure these are not 2 way cpus?

they could be but i really dont want to spend tons of time on them because i got them cheap and was already believing they might not work. after i test them in a c422 board if they work ill go from there but if they dont work im going to delid it and put it on a shelf just to look at or use it as a socket protector.

normally i dont buy unmarked procs but i was feeling like taking a gamble on them and sense there was not much to loose other then maybe a good dinner for 1 at the local steakhouse i just gave it a shot. i really dont want the atmosphere of this thread to get negative or people thinking i sunk lots of money in this. if people have read my other posts and threads they would know that i like to mess with this type of stuff and its purely for just getting a kick out of it.

I don't like being ripped off, that happened to me once before with Athlon XP parts. Final fighter you don't necessarily have to buy a motherboard of theirs they can open the motherboard and test the part

i would like to find out the condition of the procs before i drop any money on them so if frys or microcenter will test them thats a big help. the thing is im not in to much of a hurry to find the condition of them because even if they do work ill probably have them sitting for the next couple months because i dont have a proper use for them.

Well i took a skt 754 board and a r7 250x gpu to mc and it was tested, i just wanted to ensure the mobo was not doa, it was just an incompatibility between mobo chipset and gpu, got a 6450 and it worked fine.
