To enable the latest DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 features we just learned that NVIDIA Maxwell and desktop Pascal graphics cards may require a firmware update. Without the update, systems that are connected to a DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 monitor could experience blank screens on boot until the operating system loads, or could experience a hang on boot.

This update only applies to the graphics cards listed below.

NVIDIA TITAN Series:
TITAN X (Maxwell), TITAN X (Pascal), TITAN XP

GeForce 10 Series:
GeForce GT 1030, GeForce GTX 1050, GTX 1050Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1070Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1080Ti

GeForce 900 Series:
GeForce GTX 950, GTX 950Ti, GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980, GTX 980Ti

GeForce 700 Series:
GeForce GTX 745, GTX 750, GTX 750Ti

yep, diving in for the update as we speak for my 1080 sli, in the future if I buy a display port 1.4 monitor it will be supported. this update apparently does not mess with custom vendor fan profiles, only updates the GOP part for strict uefi support

I read it as if you bought a recent monitor using DisplayPort revision 1.3/1.4 the update is required otherwise Maxwell/Pascal only offer support for DisplayPort version 1.2.

well having a release in july ish doesnt require Nvidia to actually Make a new GPU does it? just to reclassify one as a new one.

Dp 1.4 support could in fact be one of their New features.

cant wait to see though , Nvidia are both looser lipped and tighter lipped then ever ?? ,yeh that's illogical but true, there is so much Rumour around now they could if true have two or three different chips on the way Or the biggest re-brand in Nvidia history , who knows bar nvidia.

Yeah I spotted that new strategy too. Perhaps they just 'leak' three fake news stories on purpose to complete the confusion and come out with something that'll once more blow us away - and take us by surprise. I get the sense they are trying everything to push their only competitor out of the market entirely. I mean what's next... Turing, Volta, Pascal refresh, Ampere... and what's even in the name in the first place. We also heard a distant fart about Nvidia MCM at some point... never heard it again.

Another cause for this may be the problems around mining and the community asking for a response from GPU makers. Nvidia decided to release something miner specific, but then GPU mining took a nosedive and now we're all in limbo.

I think leaking Bs is the case, probably trying to root the rat out, and nothings in the name or even Sku with Nvidia what with them re using Sku's all over the place , im thinking 1060s and 1050s here.

their MCM chatter was just a touch piece imho since at that time people were speculating about Amd doing a Zen on Gpu's, something they are way ahead of nvidia on too.

Id discount mining since a special Sku for such need only have the widest memory bus gpu , the gpu could be half dead tat , strap on gddr6 and you would have a mining weapon with the offcuts from gaming production and little Rnd cost, the chat of mining might have waned but the actuality of it is different imho ie no enthusiasts are now getting into it but those who are treating it more seriously are just as committed imho.

Mine worked with my monitor.. not sure which DP version it was using but was running at 2560x1440, 144hz. The only issue I was having before I flashed the bios was a slight delay during bootup.

Well here is my signature for help.

Those users should be directed to nvidia and card makers to get specific manufacturers tools and specific files so they don't brick their card...

PS if my monitor wasn't VGA id be using Displayport myself.

Hmmm, so BIOS flash for everyone with a DP monitor? This should go well....

They are supposed to use the official nvidia tool, which will find out if they need to flash, and flash with the right bios if so. It's linked.

That said, my Titan XP Star Wars edition did not need an update, so clearly some cards already got this "updated" firmware long ago. I guess it depends on card age.

Oh, and by the way, the image this tool applies is the latest nvbios codebase, which disables the holes in sig checks so you can't even bios mod your cards with a hardware programmer. Just learned this the hard way. Good thing I always take a backup...

flashed both 1080's, rebooted, updated nvidia drivers, and got my first bsod in a long long time, after that my server bios got corrupted(!) and wont flash an update or patch the cpu hack. removed battery, all resetted, modded an updated bios to remove microcode, then it flashed, cpu turbo hack installed, now windows is up and running fine. will check and see, maybe the undervolt is too much extreme for stability. This nvidia flasher definitely modifies the uefi and mainboard connection, it needs all other parameters updated fully. otherwise fragile systems may crash

If you mean the mainboard UEFI and not the GOP table, I can promise you it does not. I certainly would've noticed as that's kinda my thing.

This is just a standalone program, everything is automatic. Didn't have to do anything but click.

It does not. I was able to run it no problem and uploaded the new bios to the database.

The updater wants to update my BIOS, see screenshot below. However, I'm wary of updating my BIOS.

First off, the update is for supporting 4K 120Hz while I've only got a 1080p monitor, so I wouldn't notice any difference. Secondly, I have a custom card, the Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme Edition, which is significantly overclocked out of the box and supports the fan-off feature (yes I know it's broken). It looks to me like this is a Founders Edition BIOS which will make my card work like one, ie no overclock and messed up fan profile and perhaps other things wrong.

There's nothing on the NVIDIA BIOS update website to suggest that this BIOS update is for anything other than FE cards since it doesn't specify, so sure, it recognizes my card, but will it respect the Zotac customizations? I'm rather skeptical. What do others think?

Yes, I could save the BIOS first, update it with NVIDIA's tool and then flash the old one back if things aren't right, but I don't have a dual BIOS (why not Zotac?!) so if it bricks I have the inconvenience of an RMA or faffing around with a blind flash etc. Don't need that headache.

qubit's restraint is refreshing I have to say.

I'm in the same boat really. If this locks the card down a bit (further), I'll pass until I really lack some sort of support, which right now isn't the case.

I updated and the BIOS # did not change. I checked the TPU database.
I tried to re run the utility and it said I was up to date.
I don't think it changes the stock card settings but it is unclear if it only changes the 1 item with regards to DisplayPort update.

Hmmm, so BIOS flash for everyone with a DP monitor? This should go well....
It's only for HDR monitors. Enables 10bit per channel output. If you don't have a HDR monitor, you needn't worry.

@eidairaman1 Your opinion especially please on this one. :)

I wouldn't update till you really need it, otherwise I'd contact both nvidia and zotac about questions relating to those updates.

Unless if @erocker card is custom, there was someone who had to do a bios mod due to this "update" (see previous posts)

@qubit i'd leave it alone and upgrade the gpu when 4k is mainstream, unless otherwise told by zotac and nvidia.

Id seriously back up your bios though

This is the post that has me concerned.

I updated my 1080Ti Strix and all was fine. I don't believe this is updating the entire BIOS but actually updating somewhere else in the firmware on the card, the custom manufacturer BIOS doesn't seem to be changed. The BIOS number doesn't even change as read by GPU-Z, and all the custom clock speeds and fan profiles were left alone.

The update also went a lot faster than a normal full BIOS update. I'd really be interested in what exactly this is updating.
