also thinking my psu may not be sufficient for the new card.seems to be power hungry.

I haven't been following prices closely but I don't think it's a must buy price. 1070 vs 470, the 1070 wins all day but with the new generation due sometime this year, I would wait. Maybe the 1170 will launch around $400 before Christmas and I would feel much better spending that money at that time than now on a 1070.

well all depends of you, your wallet and your expectations about this card... knowing or taking in consideration that new generation is almost on the corner and the new XX70 variant will be faster, a little bit less power hungry, less noise and marginally newer, you must decide if wait is a option, or get the one you listed that also seems to be well priced,

make your self these questions and also, is your current video card able to hold for the new cards or not even a week more?

You can expect 200-215W if you go all out with these cards. Tops. If you don't touch the boost clocks yourself though, its more in the range of 170-180W. So that's not hungry at all for this performance level.

Is it a must buy? No. This is already a cut down 1080 (only slightly, and slower memory) but it performs very close to it. But as others have said, soon a new round of cards will push pricing on the leftovers of the older gen, and push the performance level up at a similar price point as well.

From the 1060 on up, AMD doesn't have a horse in the race so, the only question here is 11xx vs 10xx. Whatever you but now will undoubtedly cost less after the 11xx comes out. The 1160 , if past experience holds, will be faster than the 1080.

Unless you have a ITX case, i would stay away from the "mini" cards., they are cheaper because they are cheaper to build and the performance is not up to the full size cards. I wouldn't expect any of these min cards to get much past 150 watts given the minimal cooling systems. I wouldn't be anxious about the 20th... announcement does not mean release, and after the reviews come out, it will be weeks before we see AIB cards and weeks again before they are available in quantity at stable pricing

Vega 56-64 or 1070-1080Ti would be a good upgrade. You can wait till after the new cards launch so prices go down on the current ones.

Yup, unfortunately there's only one game in town at the moment and that's NVIDIA. I hope AMD can pull off with their GPUs what they pulled off with their CPUs and sooner rather than later.

Unless people are suggesting the OP buys a GTX1080ti, Vega is a perfectly viable upgrade. It's still, arguably, joint 2nd fastest card (64 version). And it's price comparable to a GTX1080 in some places.

Though yes, it's nowhere near as refined as a Pascal card (power, noise, heat etc). But still, in performance alone, it easily trades blows with a GTX1080.

Right now I strongly recommend people wait to buy a graphics card, because of NVIDIA's launch on the 20th of this month. See my post 5, where I link to a couple of articles about it.

Once those cards are out, I doubt there will be any reason at all to buy Vega, unless it's really, really cheap, but I doubt it will be. Strong competition is desperately needed. :ohwell:

My two cents:

i couldnt offer vega cards not even to my enemy, indeed,

GTX 1070 / 1070 ti and 1080 are in the optimal performance group, getting one of these cards for decent price is a desired offer, 1080ti still on high, very high price range, so, will not make that sense since new cards are in the corner,

GTX 1060 6GB variant will be in the contest just in case the price tag helps, cause you can easily get a new or used GTX 980 on ebay that might be equal or better with bigger OC capabilities, also Sli capable at decent price, same for GTX 980ti, decent deals on some used cards, even with the risk of being a ex miner card,

i really doubt the new XX60" variant will be better or faster tan GTX 1080, i bet it might be in the 1070ti range, with lack of sli support and less power consumption,

Everytime I wanted to buy the card, comparing the MSRP and the current price always cure my itch.
Plus, the new ones are coming out in maybe 20 days, even you don't want that (expensive) the old cards will again get cheaper.
Very reason to wait imho.

You can't always wait though, Vega 56 was supposed to be $399, that dream died almost instantly never to return. Sometimes the launch price might be nothing more than bait and switch, but on that very rare occasion the bait was worth taking.

Yea well i have 350£ saved so far. 450£ by weeks end.
So i think i will wait until the new cards have released.
