Final Fantasy XV or Assassin's Creed Origins

Thinking of playing one of these in the coming weeks. Just wondering which I should play. Was thinking of FF VX as I've never played an FF game. How is the story quality? Is the game grounded in a strong story or is it based more around fetch quests? Been reading a lot of mixed things regarding this title; bad fetch quests and allegedly bad story pacing for an FF game. Apparently you may need to watch a movie before playing it. Is that true? I have a disdain for repeating fetch quests and collecting items in games. Really just looking for an action / adventure game with a story decent enough to carry the game. Ideally something like Mass Effect of Deus Ex quality story wise, but can settle for something like Tomb Raider.

Played a number of Assassin Creed games so I should have a good understanding of what to expect. Though my understanding is Origins is larger with other changes to the formula. Does this game require a lot more item scavenging via fetch quests, or does it come naturally through gameplay?

Between the two, which is less grindy, repetitive and has the least pointless side quests?

Any comments on those games without spoilers would be great. If you happen to have played these and Monster Hunter World (I had written off to reading that it was grindy) I would appreciate hearing your thoughts. I realize they're not the same type of game, just trying to figure out which one is worth spending time playing.

I really enjoyed FF one of the few games I’ve actually played on my PS4. I’m not really and AC fan but most people say it’s a great AC. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Played one AC, played them all.. almost.

As as many sequels as FF has had, they're all different from each other (some subtly, but still).

I only own FF15 btw, and haven't dived in completely.. but I know this much.

Except, not so much. He’s asking about Origins, not the others which are all subtly the same, just like the FF. Origins is different and expansive enough it’s worth trying even if just trying someone else’s game.

Fair enough. I haven't played it... just seemed the same at first glance.

But with Final Fantasy, "subtle" could only apply to earlier ones. The last few have all had radically different combat systems. You could say things up to 10 were fairly similar turn based JRPGish stuff.. but they've experimented with every one of them since.

Final fantasy 15 movie which is Kings glaive is set before the game event starts. Its not entirely mandatory you watch it. I've not played 15 but if you're after a 40+hr game then definitely recommend 15. Origins is fun game and very different to previous titles. A fresh restart if you like to the franchise, game time to finish is about 20-30 hours.
If you play origins, fingers cross you don't run into random game close after reaching the open desert area like I have, it ruined the experience for me a little.
Seems ff15 is the better optimised game between the two aswell.

They're all radically different games...

Monster Hunter = grindfest with nice realtime gameplay, classic Asian grind fare (crafting, recipe, collection oriented).
AC:O = Yes, its another AC. Except now its in the desert, and Ubisoft has renamed many of its assets but the essence of it remains. You get some weird levelling system on top for a fake RPG sauce. Its still a huge map, great immersive gameplay, lots of map markers to 'check'.
FFXV = JRPG with all its quirkyness and over the top goodness. Expect the classic FF elements and combat mechanics with a 'new' twist to the combat system... which really isn't new. Its just rehashed same old once you understand its mechanics. Stupid fetch quests and weird/nonsensical stuff? Yup, sounds like good ol' FF to me.

You can read all of this as either positive or negative, and that pretty much decides which game should be yours to take Just don't go in expecting something radically different - that is just BS. These are franchises and they thrive on their original concepts.

Origins is easily 90-100 hrs. I suppose if you followed only main quest to the exclusion of all else then maybe 30 hours, altho that still feels way too rushed like you are missing something.

Im one of those that likes to explore all over, and the entire world has indeed been given things to find and do. On top of that there are a ton of side quests. So if you enjoy immersing yourself in worlds, you could easily hit 100(+) hours like I did.

I'm going by how long it took me to finish the game which included me exploring the core game, doing some interesting side quest , collecting things and doing those raid

Got it, so I should watch that prior to playing FFXV?

I'm definitely going to pass on Monster Hunter for the time being. Never played an FF at all. Is it somewhat like Nier Automata in terms of combat gameplay and story telling? I think Nier suffered pacing issues but was decent even if flawed.

FF are always ensemble/party RPGs... and only recently switched from turn based systems (every recent game has experimented with a new real time system). Nier is a bit more pure action oriented.
