You should keep using the 1050 card strategy. It's really going well. :)
I don't game on the PC anymore. 1050 wasn't bought for gaming anyway.

Well, we've already established that my knowledge is limited by what I read and your comes from owning. I do hope you'll get an RTX card at some point and your rendering knowledge will explode. It's worth it. :)

You have literally no idea what you're talking about. :-D
1) There's no such thing as "fully raytraced".
2) Nvidia's RT approaches are among the most advanced available today. Sure, RTRT is nowhere near professional renders or even movies (which Nvidia is famous for, BTW), but RT cores speed up serious rendering as well. It's a huge achievement. And it works in tandem with tensor cores. It's just a showcase of technological supremacy.
These first RTX cards being successful or not is another story - we'll see some sales statistics after the launch. IMO the preorder looks promising.
Nvidia can now build professional rendering machines around this new tech, so the R&D will pay off anyway.
Susan I thought we were passed the emerdale moments so.

Performance > RT. I game on a 1440p 165Hz Gsync monitor. I prefer smoothness and fluidity first. 1080p@60 with RT is not worth it to me.

What if it gives you an in-game advantage, like Eyefinity did in BF3/4? I was owning in both using triple-monitor and a controller. :p What's I've seen for RTX already shows me that RTX could quite possibly offer an advantage.

I am curious - What would you do if a 7nm AMD card comes out within 5 months and crushes the 2080 Ti?

Hypothetical, but what would you do with that overpriced monitor?

I wonder how we had all the actual realtime reflections before this overhyped ray tracing...
It's so simple and effective you would laugh: Simply put, cube map rendering, or mirror rendering with a lower resolution, and lower details based on the surface. Just think about the mirrors rendering on car simulators. Basically the same thing.

Cube mapping is preferred over other methods of environment mapping because of its relative simplicity. Also, cube mapping produces results that are similar to those obtained by ray tracing, but is much more computationally efficient – the moderate reduction in quality is compensated for by large gains in efficiency.

Someone has to get the ball rolling
Completely agree. HOWEVER, not in the way nGreedia is doing it. They literally have only 1 card (2080 Ti) that you can have minimum play-ability when RTRT it's enabled and that on a mediocre HD resolution. So you pay callous ammount of money and cannot even run a proper game in a 2K res?? How about the 2080? How about the RTX 2070?? Why do you promote this 2070 card as capable of RTRT when obviously it wont even be able to do 40-50fps on 1080p ???

You do realize that vendor only provides hardware with API and game/engine developers will find the optimization points for the features, right?
Regarding BF V, developers themselves have said they still have a lot of work to do on this, mainly optimization.

Just as an example, note how you said lower resolution, lower details? BF V demo ran with RT reflections at full resolution while traditional methods ran at half resolution.

Read between the lines. Why would DICE come out saying they are still working on optimization?

Answer: damage control. People and tech press noted and posted that BFV performance with RT was ABYSMAL so the obvious answer is the same we see when people complained about shitty console ports: we get press releases saying 'we're working hard on your PC port and its optimization'. The next press release contains something along the lines of 'we always listen to the community'. It's standard PR fare these days. Wake up already...

It's all so obvious, you really have to be oblivious to how these things work to not see it. Nvidia has dug itself a hole and is just waiting for gullible noobs to fall into it. And they're doing it. @notb and yourself are leading the charge it seems. 'But its faster and you only need a Titan to get 30 fps!' lmao - never mind the fact that what you get in return is downgraded so far you were better off using traditional render methods.:roll::roll:

Amazing how it is so hard to simply google things and take some 30-40 minutes to read stuff

https://home.otoy.com/render/brigade/
https://www.imgtec.com/graphics-processors/architecture/powervr-ray-tracing/

If you listen carefully some of 40-50 minutes presentations by OTOY they were able to get about 12 megarays or so with 2 watt chip, probably on a bigger node than current 14++ nm. And do not forget old larrabe demos with raytraced quake etc. I hope you will do additional research by yourself

Without RT is equally bad. Said "press" still doesn't have proper driver, but has exposed their prejudice = success for NV.

I can't see better shadows helping in battlefield ,not unless everyone were forced to use it..

Seeing refelctions of other players in the environment that other people do not see is not an advantage? Interesting perspective.

I meant more from the pov that those With better or more shadows might suffer at the hands of pros with shadows off or lower.
That might be ,lets hope they put mirrirs glass or water everywhere eh.
