New GFX card or wait?

Well in the UK the MSRP for the initial introduction of the card was £350 I think and I got mine cheaper than that last month, however at the time of release, because of limited availability no one could get one for less than 400 so unless you need leading edge I would actually say it's an OK time to get one now with the right deal, although I agree new shiny stuff is far more exciting.

hey peeps

in another post I mentioned that I was having a few problems.
one being a black screen whilst gaming.

happening a lot more now.

so thinking the gpu is on the way out.

so I have 600£ saved. looking at a 1080 now.
don't think prices will come down even when the new cards are released this month.

prices of the 1080 have come down now.

so my plan this year is to buy the following-

gpu (1080) -1st purchase

Psu.

keyboard

monitor

preferably want to buy from amazon as prime is next day delivery.

so what card would you all recommend right now.

The 1080 is fine but at 600 pound that's... painful

450 would be a good price on that. I'm counting on my 1080 to last me a couple more years, for outstanding performance that is.

I think the only RTX GPU that deserves to be bought is the 2070 , feels like a great bang for buck .

Not sure how you're 'feeling' that to be honest. It won't be much faster than a 1080 but it'll definitely be more expensive.

That was bloody quick! that's card is screaming 1440P monitor, E Buyer also have some IPS 1440's for around the 200 mark also.

Nice buy, though I would've listened to @FreedomEclipse since there a tons of 1080 ti's with some not even being mined on going for around £540~ on ebay, I'm personally waiting for rtx 2080 ti to drop so I can get a cheap 1080 ti ftw3 since I don't want to pair a different model or i'd look odd.

Before and afters

Been eyeing up a few 1080 Ti's on Ebay for £500, but there was a new MSI 1080 Ti on Overclockers for £600 new... I have no money so I'm just looking and drooling so I'll see how long I can hold out for before I go nuts and buy something I shouldn't!

I hope sense will get the better of me... :rolleyes:

Hold out. There's no reason to pull the trigger on one now when the 2080 ti is coming soon! Wait and watch and you'll find that sellers drop the price of their 1080 tis for an upgrade.

I would specifically recommend AGAINST the Armor coolers. In my experience, they're no better than the FE coolers. I would also recommend looking hard at the 1070 Ti since there is so little difference between it and the 1080.

Edit: This is what I'm referring to, w1zzard's statement about FE coolers: "The cooler still runs above 80°C during serious gaming, which means gaming performance will be slightly reduced by Boost to keep temperatures in check. " He said it better somewhere else, about how the FE coolers have allowed their GPU's to get too hot and therefore limit performance.
