I'm experiencing seemingly random GPU Spikes on my 1080 Ti. It is idling around 0-10% with only a couple (maybe a few too much but alright) Chrome tabs open. Randomly both my screens turn black before they get an image again. Often pictures in Chrome are green afterwards and the same happens with videos. All input also seems to be delayed to the point where the screens are restored. Task Manager documents Spikes to 100% GPU Utilisation. I can't really make out much of a pattern, sometimes it just happens at random, sometimes when clicking an element or changing the active window. I've also had this issue while gaming but it seems more persistent while just having chrome open with little to no inputs (homework).
I've read somewhere that if the GPU reaches 100% windows automatically reboots it and that might explain the issue but I don't see why it goes to 100% in the first place. I've had some Driver problems before but formatted all Drives and set everything up again from zero. There are no errors showing up.

:roll::kookoo: (THW again:))
Windows will only bsod or reboot if there is an underlying hardware or software problem
Not Because GPU hits 100% usage

That should not be the case, I upgraded my PSU a good year ago. Any way to test for that specifically?

A shop that has a load tester, oscilloscope.

Turn off hardware acceleration in the webbrowser and see if that changes anything for you.

That seems to have done the trick. So far no more spikes and such today. I'll give another update after a couple days but I wanna already thank you

Hardware acceleration has been around for 18 years but has never been thoroughly tested, having multiple tabs open was thrashing your gpu too and fro because of different loads from them.

Any system I build, I turn it off. CPUs are strong enough to render videos or web content

So as mentioned before I thought everything was fine. I experienced the issue again while in a discord call (voice call plus screen sharing), uplay downloading in the background and in a simple game (Stormbound) with Chrome running in the background as before. First the usual black-waiting-image with no audio from the call and apparently no microphone input from my side either for the duration (I closed a few chrome windows after). Then after a few minutes I experienced a full crash, black screens for a bit, I tried to alt+tab and hit the windows key but the screens switched to no signal, followed by the BIOS boot up screen.

Okay you are multitasking now have you attempted to update your chipset and Graphics drivers? And what about the software that you were using? At this rate you could be having a problem with the power supply or graphics card but try those first things before you go out and buy parts.

Let's see your task manager screen all the tabs and also a screenshot of services. MSC and MS config.

Also give us a screenshot of the Event Viewer

Okay you are multitasking now have you attempted to update your chipset and Graphics drivers?
Chipset Drivers are updated through the MSI Live Updater and Graphics Drivers through Geforce Experience.

And what about the software that you were using?
Should have been up to date as well, though I noticed both Chrome and Discord updates this morning.

Do you suggest getting my PSU checked?

Let's see your task manager screen all the tabs and also a screenshot of services.
I couldn't really do that due to the reboot. I could set up a similar scenario and will keep an eye on it in case the issue arises again.

MSC and MS config.
I don't have any experience with that but will do my research so I can supply what you need. Same goes for Event Viewer.
(edit) What would you like to see from MSconfig?
(edit) For the MSC I'm afraid I will need your guidance. I ended up in the MMC but it is virtually empty and I'm not even sure that is what you are looking for.

I'd like to add that everything seems considerably more stable already through the turnt off Hardware Acceleration.

Turn off automatic restarts after a crash. You are on Windows 10, since you use live updater from msi and nvidia I presume you allow Windows to grab updates automatically.

To answer your questions, I asked for screen shots of MSConfig, Event Viewer, Task manager, Services.msc that means all tabs, and everything that maybe hidden by a scroll bar.

At this rate have the rig tested at a shop, there is only so much we can do at this point without physically touching parts.

I skipped it since this is all it says (attached) and I was going to ask about Task Manager Screenshots in a second.

To answer your questions, I asked for screen shots of MSConfig, Event Viewer, Task manager, Services.msc that means all tabs, and everything that maybe hidden by a scroll bar.

I assume you do not need Task Manager screenshots of the state right now but rather at the time of a crash, is that correct? I am of the understanding you need the Startup screen of the Task Manager and will get to work on that.
As for Event Viewer, what specifically would you like me to screenshot? I've found a peculiar pattern of two of the same warnings followed by always the same Error reporting multiple times. I attached these.
As for Services I hope I included the right screenshots.

(Edit) Added Task Manager Startup

Oh so you do have a GPU tool running. Set it to defaults and turn it off for diagnostics.

You may want to read through this, and this is the bane of allowing stuff to automatically update.

My mistake. I wasn't aware since it doesn't seem to really launch at start anyway. Turnt it off now. I should add it's not the best working tool out there and I haven't done any overclocking since I formatted.

you have a lot of Warnings and Errors you may wsnt to try and address

I am more than open for suggestions (should that still be on this thread though? Or should I look for similar problems first?) though I will focus on the problem at hand first.

Focus on the 4101 first which is your gpu in the link i provided, once addressed look at others, sometimes they are meaningless for normal ops others are critical.

Sadly I just experienced the issue again. Even after using the suggestion (
)

It popped up repeatedly again as I opened up Stormbound today and I actually saw Spotify open u in the background with the orange flashing icon on the task bar as f it had a notification. The window itself was not really loaded yet and partially did when moving the mouse over it to close it but it seemed to be squares that were out of place. I attached the Event Viewer logs (All the warnings and errors are the same) plus all processes and services from Task Manager. My system is still in the same state so if you need any other screenshots you just have to ask and maybe the error now is easier to reproduce with opening Stormbound.

It is turned off. it actually starts by itself. And just a reminder that this is far from a demanding game.
