I was going to wait for next Ryzen processors to upgrade anyway. Or I may go with Intel if I can find DDR4 ram for cheap and a Core i7 8xxx for cheap as well. Which I wont be able to. Especially on the ram part.

Fallout 4 runs like crap on AMD hardware.

High clocked Intel Quad (or better) + high speed / low latency memory and Nvidia GPU will deliver the best performance in this game.

according to the other guy, it still runs like crap on a better intel system than mine.

Thanks but I don't really need much of your fanboyism as a method of solving my issue.

I also have a GTX1070, which is an Nvidia graphics card. And no, it isn't helping.

Your message......It really comes off like one of those automated voice recordings you get when you contact the bank.

funny enough, I went from a 3570k to a 4770. Couldn't get a 4770k or 4790k without spending nearly $400 CAD for one. But I do have a spare 4670K sitting around. Thinking maybe I should just put that in, get a good cooler, overclock it and sell the 4770 for $200 (I paid $150 for a whole system that had it in it, but everyone sells the 4770 for $250 around here).

if you snag a delid tool and some liquid metal, the temps on those chips drop massively - my 4770k (and now my 6500k) ran under 50C full load on average cooling (120mm tower/AIO water) at 4.2ghz

It's not just you, I tried playing the game with my 1080Ti, and my fps would drop in cities down to 20 or below. I gave up on the game and uninstalled it.

This was at 1440p with settings dropped to "medium" to try and diagnose what was going on and I determined that it was the game engine.

I haven't had these issues playing at 4k even back when I was using a 5960x@4.5 all the settings are cranked up and I have played through the game completely a couple times now, but that's on a pair of 1080tis. I do get drops into the 40's for the cities, but that's about the worst of it.

your processor is stupidly powerful and I imagine the ram was also quite high too, since it was DDR4, correct?

Anyway, thanks dcf-joe, I am glad to know I am not only one.

Mr Mussels, I wish I had the intelligence of you to be able to do any of that without screwing things up badly due to my gorilla like strength breaking everything. Especially if I go all Donkey Kong in anger.

Anyway, how do I use real temp to monitor if it throttles while doing test?

4770 is a solid processor too. I run everything else at max settings and I got zero reason to upgrade really. Never ran a game till now I couldn't play, but it just seems it is overall just poorly optimized for anyone/everyone unless you are the lucky one.

I'd avoid an upgrade, save up until you've got an actual reason to upgrade, Or at least find another game perhaps?

never said I will. I cant justify any upgrade at the moment. Especially when I got systems currently I am going to sell as is.

Realized too that I barely even play games anymore since you know, kids, take up way more of my time, as well as complaining to you guys and on various political chats i am on.

Oh, btw mussels, I was running real temp while running fallout and the temp didn't go above 60. So I dunno if its accurate or MSI afturburner is telling truth or not.

I had a 3770k at 4.2Ghz, 16GB 1600MHz CL9 ram, and SLi Titan X's (Maxwell). Had the same drops you described for no apparent reason at 3440x1440 max settings, god rays on low. What fixed the problem for me was upgrading to a 16GB 2400MHz CL11 ram kit. I would still occasionally drop to 55fps but nothing close to what I had before (vsync on with a 60Hz monitor).

Oh, and I enabled fullscreen and disabled borderless and windowed in the ini folder.

Not gonna bother buying new ram just for this game. Especially since I am on DDR3 ram as is. Will one day buy a newer machine with DDR4 or if DDR5 is standard.

9700K/9900K comes out soon, which will make the 6700/7700K drop even further.
When you do get the cash, get a 8700K/8600K system, much better than any Ryzen on the current market

Nah, to upgrade just for 1 game is pointless. Especially when my processor works wonders for everything else. On paper, the 4770 should play the game no problem, but it may indeed be the ram as mentioned earlier cause I heard that multiple times, how faster ram has done wonders in terms of performance. But I just don't feel like shelling out the money just for ram.

I mean, if my system runs Witcher 3 at full everything with high FPS, if it runs pretty much every game I want to besides 1 game, then it just comes as a waste of money. I have read people with better systems (Core i7 7700, etc) with exact same issues. Even mentioned here.

I would say it is really bad idea to give advice on upgrading to newest of everything just for 1 broken game. I don't recommend it.

Looked at your system specs an noticed you ram config is not two identical sticks. What ram are you running exactly ?
Yeah I was thinking if they are around Goodneighbor or the Mass Fusion building (Mid city) this is where my system eats dirt (Walking from Goodneighbor to Mass Fusion). CPU/GPU usage drops to 40-50%. Fallout 4 is very RAM speed sensitive, so with 1600MHz and uhhhh mismatched sticks, it won't play very smooth anywhere in the city. I actually stopped playing it because my system RAM can't keep up :(

Game runs on the same ancient core engine that Fallout 3 and Skyrim ran on. That should tell you all you need to know.

So that explains why my performance is fine at 4k ultra - I've got 32gb ddr4 @ 2400. The OP should probably wait for 7nm cpus.

It won't do anything - you don't own the same rig as the OP. Ram speed was the cause of the problem - it's solved.

No it's not. That PC should easily be able to run this game at 60 fps stable.

I know a guy with 2600K and 8GB DDR3/1867/CL9. He has 500+ hours played in this game and never drops below 60 fps, VSYNC ON.

It affects people differently. As I already pointed out with evidence of a person with the systems far better, they have issues. Lets be real here, anecdotal evidence is pointless, especially when no one provides proof or full on details.

I have come to the conclusion this site is very bad, much like most, in terms of reading comprehension of people.

My fault too cause I didn't update my system specs either. But also my fault too that I asked the question on this forums. Thanks for wasting my time Las and others giving bad advice. I got my answer. Hopefully I get a mod to close it since I am getting too many alerts.
