Today was the day I was going to purchase my Sapphire Vega 64 Nitro. Newegg had a deal going on and they were selling them for $499.99 which is the best price ever.

They were in stock yesterday, and I went to buy one this morning and they are sold out... I shouldn't have waited.

You're luckier than you think. For about the same price, you can get a GTX 1080, which is a better card.

Not true- the Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64 runs hotter which is true, but in most games it either goes toe-to-toe with the GTX 1080, or it outperforms it. There are very few games which the GTX 1080 actually beats the Nitro+ Vega 64.

If I managed to get this card for $499.99, it would have been a better value, because there is only one GTX 1080 card that is under the $500 mark and that model isn't the greatest. If I went the GTX 1080 route, I would only settle for EVGA's Superclocked model (which is the best), but I haven't seen this model under the $600 price point. Even I manage to get the Vega 64 (Nitro+) under $600, it would still be a better value.

Unfortunately, Gigabyte makes the worse Vega 64 model and a slew of issues have been reported. From what I have gathered, the best Vega 64 models in terms of cooling and performance are PowerCooler's Red Devil, Sapphire's Nitro+ (Limited Edition) and Asus's Strix.

I'm talking about brand new- you can't get a GTX 1080ti brand new under $700, especially if we are talking about the FE or EVGA's SC which are hands down the best models.

Both online and locally I have seen thr Red Dragon Vega 64 and the Nitro+ at prices of $499 or below which is fantastic. If you get a Vega 64 for $499 or less than it's worth it. I just have to keep checking prices...

Buy a Vega 56 Nitro + if it has the Dual bios on it find the 64 version Look at your stock keeping unit numbers and Flash it at that point flash only one bios

Seeing a new 1080 Ti on Newegg for $629.99 AMIR. MSI Duke, no clue how good a card it is though.

I'm just not sure what kind of performance I would be getting if I went this route. At the bare minimum, I would want to surpass EVGA's GTX 1070ti SC. The big appeal for the Vega 64, is that out of thr box with no tweaking I'm already trading blows and surpassing a 1080 in terms of performance.

***update***

I just read the Bit-Tech review of the Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 56- stock they have it easily beating the GTX 1070ti FE at both 1080p and at 1440p. Its performance is actually VERY close to a GTX 1080 and in some games it actually beats the 1080. This might be the best option if I can find it under $400...

I got a Gtx 1080 from the EVGA site just over $400 right before the 2080 release. Brand new in a vanilla box.

On hold for now- the Vega 56 is more expensive than the Vega 65, especially on eBay. Seriously, how did we come to this?

56 more expensive than 56?

That was a typo. What I was trying to say was that from what I have seen, especially on the eBay market, is that the Vega 56 Nitro+ is selling for more than the Vega 64 Nitro+. Its been over a year since Vega launched and we are still seeing ridiculous prices and shortages. The MSRP for a Vega 64 is $499- I have only seen a couple instances where cards were at this price. I have recently seen a used Red Devil for $450 so that might be an option.

For the Vega 56, it is worse because if overclocked right it can reach Vega 64 performances with less heat and power draw, but good luck finding a card anywhere near MSRP (which is $399 for the Vega 56). Basically, Vega would have been a great option, but why go with a Vega 56 when I can get a GTX 1070ti FTW for $375 used? Its crazy because the Vega 56 and 64 are legitimately better than the GTX 1070ti and the GTX 1080, but finding one at a good price is proving to be a lot more difficult than I imagined. Yesterday I got a price alert on Newegg for the Vega 64 Nitro+ at $499.99 and they are already sold out within hours of the alert... this is getting pretty ridiculous.

By the way apparently the Red Devil card can be flashed to 64 as well

What country do you live in?

By the way apparently the Red Devil card can be flashed to 64 as well

I live in the states. Right now the options either get a deal on a used Red Dragon 64, get a GTX 1070ti FTW2, or just wait until Navi.

But he wanted a freesync monitor so not really.

I missed that too ... system specs says he has a "Asus VX238H-W" which I didn't think had any sync

As for the 1080 / Vega 64 comparison being toe to toe or head to head , it's both true and false. Looking at TPUs test results

-Outta the box they provide overall comparable fps
-With both overclocked, it's no contest. The 1080 will get ya 18 to 20% .... the Vega 64, barely anything

In the cost comparison, unless you have more than ya will need already, don't forget to include a bigger PSU and an extra fan to expel the extra heat.

I wanted to get a FreeSync monitor because its much cheaper than going G-Sync, yet there are STILL Vega shortages.

From the Tom's Hardware review of the Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+, it was either in a 1% margin of the GTX 1080 FE, or surpassed it (in a vast majority of tests it outperformed the 1080). I think there was maybe one game where the GTX 1080 outperformed the Vega 64. In all other tests the Vega 64 and the Vega 56 (Nitro+ and Red Dragon versions only) they both smashed every version of the GTX 1070ti.

The problem here is availability, price and power draw- if the Vegas were at MSRP I wouldn't mind the power draw, but they are grossly inflated.

I can get a used GTX 1070ti FTW2 for $365 and sell my current GTX for $325... seems like a decent solution. However, if I find a Vega 56 in the low $400s then that would totally be a viable option.
