8700k strange behavior

Yesterday I noticed a strange behavior, I don't know exactly from. when, maybe after the October uptade. Looking at cpuz my cpu stay alway at max frequencies, no matter if I set power saving, balanced or max perf profile in windows. Also I noticed slightly lower score in cinebench. My 8700k used to score 1620-1640 but now I see about 1550. The single core score was 195 instead of 210-215.
i have had to completely reinstal my OS (a clean instal of the October win 10) to fix the behavior, now frequency drop to 800, cinebench score 1620 in multi and about 215 or so in single. Quite strange, still see odd numbers in cpuz benchmark. Multicore seem ok with around 4300, but single core show a score of 470 that's nonsense cause I used to see 570 or so.
My bios setting are always the same...

That is strange, I'm only scoring low 1400's at stock settings with XMP enabled with 3000mhz ram..... My cores jump to around 4500mhz during a Cinebench. One never knows with these things. Default settings are seemingly always different across different motherboards.

What are your system specs?

8700k, maximus x hero, 3400 mhz 16gbx2, ssd and an m2 ssd with the OS. Pretty much the same as always but now performance in cpuz are broken...

any clue?

Yes. Microcode updates / Spectre/Meltdown mitigation may cause reduced performance. The locked clocks may be a different issue, not seeing a direct relation there (unless your CPU runs into short/long term power limits, you can increase those in BIOS with no risk)

Run this before and after updating to check

https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm

If you've excluded that from your list you can start looking at CPU / OC settings in further detail. I wouldn't do it the other way around.

Another thing to consider is that these Windows updates are large packages containing lots of fixes and also new features/tweaks to the kernel, so don't be too quick to judge ;) There could be a background process still forcing full load clocks, I've seen it before when Windows wants to optimize itself after a fresh install. This would also explain lower scores.

thanks, I'll check it.
Anyway just rune some. bench. Cinebench is 217 single 1630 multi, geek bench is 6900 single and 30000k in multi. All those bench are fine. It's just cpuz that still return nonsense score like 380 in single core.

super pi and wprime score too are perfectly fine.. really wish to know what's wrong with cpuz..

apologize :p
I ll post some. screenshot later

Ok, here 's a pic with a buch of benchgeekbench, intel xtu, cinebench, superpi and wprime. They are totally fine and in line with a 4.9 ghz 8700. unlike cpuz show a multicore score, a bit low and a totally f*d up single core score and multicore ratio of 10,8x !11!!1!1!!
