ps.. i do see what i would call a lot of "entitlement" envy in this thread.. he he..
well i have some envy ... to be out of my "hard financial situation" and take a Vega 64 as i planned to since the 20XX announcement, to replace my 1070 ... oh well will wait the end of the year, or a year more

I'd torture test with Time Spy and Firestrike Extreme to be honest. Furmark is past history, for a long time.

Thats a baby step though. Why waste the money with such limited budget?

You must be joking. Everyone including tech media told them not to buy it. And Nvidia undeniably deserves it.
Anyone that sold their pascal card for this garbage deserves it as much as nvidia.

If they deluded themselves through nvidia's lies before launch by not releasing actual performance metrics, then how can you say that the consumer doesn't deserve it? The problem is irrelevant. They suckered themselves into any negative outcome.

Every time an overpriced domestic/german pos car blows up and ruins the owner, it's deserved. They failed to heed the warnings. It's called learning the hard way. Different products + same outcome = me all rosy inside. At least in this case, they will get RMA'd cards or refunds if this blows up into a huge issue (no monetary loss, which means they won't learn, though).
What an unbelievably smug and schadenfreude response. By this logic every VW car buyer that ended up caught in the emissions trick would be responsible for not having read the non-existent warnings.

The type of mentality I'm seeing in this thread is worse than any graphics card problem imo...

I didn't read the source threads but are the cards overclocked? Artefacts and overclocking go hand in hand.
As for the hate, yeah, uncalled for.

i was just thinking that furmark isnt much of a stress test any more.. he he.. it drops the cards boost right down to about 1250.. i just picked it because it just keeps running..

i have "torture" tested with all the 3dmark stuff.. out of everything i have used all run fine on my current (1800 boost) setting except one thing.. the ashes of singularity benchmark set on the crazy setting.. that locks the card up at 1800 boost.. i have now lowered the core clock to 1750.. it runs fine at that..

i might try heaven maxed out at 1440 just leave that running in a window.. i dont know any way to just leave 3dmark running in the background..

so far the ashes benchmark set on crazy seems the best short term stress test..

because a Vega 64 is close enough to a 1080Ti (thus above a 2070 level ) and they are priced lower than a 1080Ti or a 2080 (which both are 900 to 1400chf for me ) and because RTX improvement are minima while the price is maxima

not really a baby step in the current situation, nor a waste of money imho compared to a RTX 20XX acquisition

if i did specify a Vega 56 i would understand ;) (tho i wouldn't mind either ... after all i did Swap a 290X for a 980 before getting that 1070 in insurance replacement of the 980 when she got fried due to a thunderstorm )

The hate in this thread is mind boggling.

For the people that say we should not pre-order

In the end, it is called capitalism. People have the money, they buy what they want.

You have a rather broad definition of hate, then. People are just having some fun, and rightly so IMO. Does that mean you should die in German car fire for buying a VW, no, that was way out of context as well to me (and a failing car analogy, too, like most of them). But you have to admit, people were warned. Seeing them ignore warnings and burn for bad decision making today does indeed bring a smile to my face. Nobody died here, people just have to RMA some GPUs and Nvidia has to write off 0.0001% on their annual report. Chill out. 'What about the people'... lol. So sentimental

Part of capitalism is also taking your loss and owning your mistakes. 'Don't pre order', almost a standard punchline when it comes to basically everything that has to do with gaming and its hardware. 'Wait for reviews'. 'Don't be an early adopter of RTX'. People were warned, and failed to heed the warning, and we are now looking at a higher than normal percentage of DOAs. RTX is not beneficial for gaming or gamers at large, thus far, or at all. If a few people have to feel a bit unpleasant because they bought one, that is a small loss to me. This overpriced tech needs to die. We don't have the silicon die space available for 20% of dedicated ray tracing bullshit. And the large, low yield 2080ti die is a perfect example of that - it needs to be priced over 1K and what you get is a dead product.

Again, your reading comprehension downright sucks

Yep, I see a whole lot of that lately, and TPU is no exception. People read five words and think they can guess the rest of a paragraph. Weird, but true. Its easy to come to the conclusion that the world is based on extremes when people only read the buzz words that stand out to them.

It gets downright sad when that is how people form opinions, though, and funnily that also ties into the rise of (extreme) right wing governments worldwide. A lack of comprehension of all things, really. I guess its because the world gets ever more complicated.

because a Vega 64 is close enough to a 1080Ti (thus above a 2070 level ) and they are priced lower than a 1080Ti or a 2080 (which both are 900 to 1400chf for me ) and because RTX improvement are minima while the price is maxima

I think you might want to double check those benchmarks you looked at, because Vega 64 is nowhere remotely close to a 1080ti. Not even OC versus stock. Its essentially a 1080, and if you are lucky and get a superb model you might hit 1080 OC performance. If it was close to a 1080ti it wouldn't have failed as it did.

ok it's closer to a 1080 ... still a better value :p

"i am fed up with Nvidia" is also a reason ;)

other reason is : 1070Ti is same price, 1080 is 300chf more 1080Ti is 600chf more ... why would i waste 300chf to get the same perf ;) catch my drift?

Absolutely, just calling a spade a spade, one of my hobbies :D
If Vega comes at a competitive price there is absolutely nothing wrong with it!

well also out of topic but i am fed up with Intel ... (my 6600K doesn't take even the smallest OC anymore ) and Ryzen is clearly becoming more appealing than the 9XXX line ...
it's not out of fanboyisme that i rant on a brand or on another but rather from personal experiences (opportunistic also...)

It would seem that could be an issue, since that is what usually leads to artifacting, as @the54thvoid mentioned earlier.

It’s worth Nvidia looking into. One would assume that NVIDIA would know the limits and tested already.

Its not very likely these are clocked too high out of the box. GPU Boost 3.0 doesn't really mix well with that idea. You can toss 100 mhz on just about every GPU with it and it can still have a boost range to work with, and not crash.

The stock clocks are not that high at all and this is still a new iteration of Pascal with some features and optimization on top. Also, the lower cards don't have any problems boosting as high as Pascal, and neither do the 2080ti's that don't fail.

Much more likely seems to be the scenario that GDDR6 is heat sensitive, and this is an issue directly related to board cooling requirements / VRM > GDDR placement. There is a reason Nvidia had to resort to dual fan open air shrouds this time and most of the issues come from FE's that have higher TDPs. Another red flag is the fact that there is a period of degradation taking place before these cards fail. It starts fine, and after some hours of work, they start crashing, after that, they artifact, and even forcing stock clocks won't fix it.

It would be super cool if, members of an enthusiast tech forum could not shit on people who choose to spend their money on enthusiast tech.

Please keep your negative attitude toward people who buy things with their own money on their own advice to yourself. You're welcome to criticise NVidia or the companies that make the memory chips.

I agree. And also if members without reading comprehension skills could not shit on members they only THINK are shitting on those that spent their money on enthusiast tech.

Benchmark Scores Meh benchmarks.
Probably just a driver issue, what's sad is that the card went on sale before these issue's were resolved.

Not at all, it underlines several things:
- RTX was rushed
- TU102 is an uncanny, high risk die / SKU for a mass consumer product
- The effect of Turing is that we're practically at a standstill for 3 or more years of GPUs. The only GPU that offers a meaningful boost over 1080ti now not only costs an arm and a leg, but is also prone to failure. As for drivers: there was already a string of driver releases that eventually got 'fixed' in 411.something. It seems they can't get it right.

Honestly the bitterness (for me) isn't towards the individual but towards the state of the market at this point. And everyone who buys into it, is adding fuel to that very uncomfortable state. That is something to be bitter about, yes. It affects everyone. If you're a true enthusiast, that might be food for thought - unless all you care about is your current GPU purchase and not the next one.

Benchmark Scores do not matter, my PC is fast :)
I had 2 Gainward 2080TI GS cards one of them had imediate arifacting on stock clocks the second card black screened after just 5-10 minutes of gaming, i sent them back and bought a Palit Gaming Pro OC from a local Dealer and the card worked for a week with no problems and then had on black screen and did freeze my pc, after a restart there was permanent artifacting even on bootup and widows desktop, i sent it back now i have a Palit 2080Ti Dual and it is working fine for 5 days, but lets see what happens next.

I could understand why the people who paid out for these frankly over priced cards having a winge, but those who didn't buy one, how does this effect them ? getting pleasure off other peoples problems ? or are they just angry because they cant afford to keep up?

I don't know, but I know I wouldn't spend that kind of money JUST to play games thats it really, should be end of.

lol hey Nobody has to buy these cards so whats thier real beef? plenty of other gfx card to choose from that are cheaper and play games.

why kick up a fuss about something they don't want to buy ?

well, you deserve it

but seriously,I hope they get it sorted soon, with a bios update or through drivers. and all those who say it's "justice" see their cards die a day after warranty ends. that'd be real justice after what I've seen written here.
