CPU Cooling and pasting upgrade recommendations

Thanks John, as said in this just above I'm going to get some Shin Etsu (Shin-Etsu X23-7783D is this the right stuff?) tonight along with some AS5 as a spare, I'm contemplating now on which to go for though in terms of the Fuma or the Mugen Max... I'm really undecided so I'll request your opinion on an option shortly if that's OK?

I've been looking on PC Part Picker from the link you posted with the Fuma, the equivalent to this would be the Mugen Max (I think I believe you are telling me the Mugen Max is better than the Fuma) though not 100% settled on it yet!

The Mugen Max has about the same performance and is usually cheaper... it isa few mm taller tho, so make sure it fits in your case

#2: Thermal Paste -- I've always stood by Arctic Silver 5 as it's always done me proud (I no longer have any but see a lot of back and forth about it online) as to which I've also seen Noctua NT-H1 crop up as a solid replacement?

This was my go to review for a long time. To me, the winner of that roundup was TG-1, which I used for a while and it was easier to use than AS-5. Seems like AS-5 starts off quite viscous and only gets more viscous as it gets older in the tube. MX-4 user here. To me, TG-1 and MX-4 are very similar to use. Never spent the time to benchmark - if the temps are satisfactory, I have more important things to do then try to get a degree or two.

I definitely agree on AS5 though I've not took too much time to see if it gets more viscous as time goes on in the tube, never considered that thought I generally only benchmark for my own self, I like the idea of being able to see where my rig sits in terms of others with similar components and see if it can show any imperfections for my rig though I've not bench marked in a long time, as I normally do it upon a fresh install, cleaning and pasting. I did do more work with them when I did my first ever overclock venture which started here haha, so long ago too but always in my mind a guy I recall named wolf helped me over messenger at the time we had a right good time doing it haha! So much fun!

Aye, plenty more things to do on a PC besides that too!

Still unable to get that directron website working for me, weird...

Then I think I'll settle with the Mugen Max then as it is considerably much cheaper and more accessible to get for me, only one place sells the Fuma for me whereas multiple places sell the Mugen Max I'll go 2x fans, though would you personally replace the Scythe fans or stick with Scythe fans?

Checked maximum height limit for the CPU cooler for my case and it's 172.1mm, so the height isn't an issue as the Mugen Max is 161mm from base to top (according to the scythe website) I just have to make sure that it can be clear of my RAM

I have some AS5 from 2005 that still is fine for use. Indistinguishable from new tubes. Re-found it in an old motherboard box I had stored away. In fact put it on my processor and it runs cool. I don't go over 52*C in games (GTA IV, Space Engineers) with my 8600K at 4.6 (not delidded).

You'll love it... You'll wake up in the middle of the night and wonder how you ever did without it.

One of the greatest things is that unlike compressed air. It never loses pressure no matter how long you keep it powered on. Its a mini leaf blower! Just remember to take your PC out into the garden because this will send dust from your case all over the place.

I use the DataVac ED500 which is similar and use it to clean all kinds of stuff not just computers. Great product.

I find a blower / vacuum pushes a lot if air but at very low pressure. I much prefer a small nozzle that I can sap tips and send itto real tiny places. Commercial Shop Vac in blow mode won't even take the dust off fan blade tips.... which I still don't understand how it even accumuates . Leaves a lot behind on heat sinks and rads too.

I only just cottoned on that directon was a link to get the Shin Etsu, I thought it was a review for the stuff albeit the website doesn't work for me, I used the PC Partpicker link you showed which lead me to amazon for the cheapest one

I'll have a look at that Gelid Extreme for the GPU, though what about the memory on the GPU? Should I get some pads for it or just use the Gelid on all memory as well as processor on the GPU?

Haha it's perfectly OK mate, was nice that you actually let me know about not reading the whole thread and more so your reason as to why albeit you didn't have too, reading anything long winded on a phone is a bit of a pickle!

Thanks matey, I'll check to see if it fits first by measuring or checking to see if there is a diagram around for it and my board with the current GPU in it, shouldn't be any issues but at least checking first eliminates them as I'm hoping to order it really soon!

I do too .... I let the shop vac suck up the dust as the compressor blows it out. The Compressure of course produces far higher PSI and I can direct into any shape stream I want by changing the tip. If you just blow the dust away, you gotta carry everything outside or dust just re-accumulates. BTW, a filtered forced air system is a great thing .... Im tempted to route a intake duct behind the PC grille.

Try and find an EK waterblock instruction PDF and follow their directions ...it will also tell you what thickness pads you need

New update guys and gals!

Finally installed the Mugen Max and done a little testing before and after with AIDA64, got 2 images for now showcasing the Mugen Max with a Push and Pull config of the Scythe fan that comes with and a Noctua NF-P14R, swapping the stock cooler for this has proven seriously effective, more than I expected anyway!

I'll add more to this post within the next few days and more images for all who're interested in seeing, I had CPU throttling issues with the stock cooler, hit 100C very quickly from the stability test in AIDA64 though with this Mugen Max I've had the test running roughly 45 minutes and it's not even touched 70C (with Stress CPU, Stress FPU, Stress cache and Stress GPU selected) so I'm absolutely over the moon for this air cooler being suggested, it's amazing! Idle temps have dropped 15C if not more...

I have been trying to solve an issue which I had suspected faulty memory, doing the Memtest and also AIDA64 tests I'm starting to believe it's definitely the modules or a module though not going to testing single sticks until I get more time to spend on them, if it comes to it I'll just try to find a better set of memory modules for future overclocking
