ITX AM4 motherboard - ASUS ROG vs. Gigabyte AORUS

Hi everyone,

I'm currently searching for an AM4 ITX mbo. I had the Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac, but decided to change it because of the rear-placed M.2 slot.

The decision has come to two motherboards - ASUS ROG ITX X470/B450 or the Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI. The computer will be used as a server with 2700X cpu, which will most likely be upgraded when the 3000 series come out, 32GB of RAM, fast NVME disk and something like GTX 1060 gpu (still deciding on that as well). All of that will be inside the Silverstone SG05-LITE. The server won't have 24/7h high cpu load, but there will be times with 2-4h of high cpu load.

Not interested in overclocking, but consider that I will be using cpu with plenty of cores/threads (possibly upcoming ryzen with 8C/16T). I want cool and very quiet PC, so temperatures are very important. Any feedbacks on PCH and VRM temps on these two motherboards? If somebody has one of these mbos, I would be thankful for any feedback.

If you want to use CPU only than Asus is better. For Apu ASRock is better.

If am not wrong Asus has either 5+1 or 6+1 phase power design. Where ASRock has 3+2 phase power.

I own that Gigabyte board. I like it quite a bit so far, though I’ve only owned it a month or so, with a 2400G. I’m getting a better cooler today to maybe try some overclocking. I’m not a hardcore user, but this board looks great and is quite hefty with the extra heatsinks. Maybe I can answer something specific?

What about VRM and PCH temps? Are you using NVMe?

Haven’t got an NVMe installed, but I ran Prime95 max heat test with my 2400G OC’ed to 4.05GHz till it got up to 76C. At that time, VRM was at 60C, VSOC was at 56C, and everything seemed to be leveling off. That’s with a 27C ambient, pushing a 65W chip up to 85W. There’s a pretty hefty HeatSink on the VRMs, so that probably helps.

I agree and disagree. I've owned Gigabyte boards and yeah, they're good but I've seen ASRock and MSI have better offerings. (Even owned MSI to compare against my Gigabyte.)

I did and had owned the b350 fatal1ty itx model, but BIOS is buggy and it has the m.2 slot on the back, which I don't prefer due to high temps of the SSD.

The Gigabyte board has a HeatSink that goes over the SSD. I just don’t have an nVME drive to test it for you. I will say that with a good cooler, I’m able to push my 2400G to 4.1GHz at 1.375v. Seems to be the cap for my CPU, at least without crazy volts.
