Will You Be Buying Radeon VII ?

So with the close launch of the new AMD Radeon VII GPU with stated performance around the RTX 2080 will anyone here be a new adopter of it. I myself am considering replacing my RTX 2070 if it truly matches a RTX 2080 or surpasses it.

Well if the Radeon 7 does truly compete with the RTX 2080 at a similar or sightless better price point, Nvidia will not have the upper hand.

That depends... many people like to use less power and deal with less heat in their case. A 2080 FE is a 225W card and this one is likely going to be 300W if not more (MI50 is 300W card and this is running faster, though with gimped parts). That is a notable difference.

Then, people need to consider the noise. If AIBs cant put their own cooling solutions on there, people are stuck with what AMD puts on it. We know quite typically that aftermarket coolers are, typically, quieter than others. Being priced the same and performing around the same as a 2080 does not make it an attractive gaming card. If you compute with it, that helps its value... but those people are few and far between. The majority here talk within a gaming context.

That said, I voted no. I need more horsepower than this card will ever provide regardless of its shortcomings.

Makes no sense to replace a 2070 with Radeon VII. If this thing matches 2080 in a handful of cherry picked games,it'll probably end up at 1080Ti performance at 300W TDP. That is roughly +15% of your 2070 at +100W power draw and it'll cost you at least a couple of hunderd dollars to make the switch.

well if it's just to prove a point that you don't like nvidia then just get it and don't ask.almost no one in a sane mind would advise you to make that switch but it seems like getting the Radeon VII card would make you happier just for having an AMD card alone,and that's the ultimate goal.btw amd makes almost no profit from that card while nvidia certainly did selling you a tu106 card at $500.

The 2080 on average pretty much matches the 1080ti within a few percent performance.
There are even games where the 1080ti is faster, so what you said made little sense.
Unless nVidia have since reduced the 1080ti performance with driver updates.

I never said i disliked Nvidia, if i outright disliked them i wouldn't own a RTX 2070 right now. I just simply prefer AMD for my usage but at the same time like mentioned performance needs to be above to the RTX 2070 which would be an upgrade in which i was awaiting from AMD. And i doubt AMD won't be making a profit from Radeon 7

Well if you wanna do it that way so be it. Meanwhile pls remember AMD does not need pity to be successful and their RyZen line proved just that. A company needs solid products.


Meanwhile I can definitely think of a few members who will be highly likely to buy Radeon 7 but I am gonna keep quiet.

My vega 64 clocks to 1747 in 3d loads stable and beats out 980ti sli according to 3dmark , I'd imagine you would be happy.

And that's why I'm interested in reviews ,how much can tweaks and twice the memory give too.

I voted no, i got a vega I am sticking a generation ty i am tempted if for folding at home and definitely the Extra heat right now but firm no.

I don’t think so as even overclocked the Vega 64 does not get close to the GTX 1080 Ti in which both the RTX 2080 and Radeon 7 are suppose to surpass

But if the reviews turn out good, I have no issue suggesting the Radeon VII to my friends and family.
I know a friend that can make use of that 16GB vram and has no intrest in RTX features, and IMO the 2080 does not have enough power to run RTX in future titles anyway.

dead components happen,I would not consider any brand more or less likely to fail.Though in case of RTX cards,they were failing more frequently than others.

So now it's "matches or surpasses".
AMD's own estimates say it will be, on average, 30% faster than Vega64. Applying that with no grain of salt and looking at TPU's performance graphs, that would be still 5% slower than a FE 2080. You can translate that as a "match" (5% isn't something you'd feel), but surpass? I'll believe that when I see it.
