This is not what HBCC does. HBCC moves data between RAM and VRAM. There is no other way to do that beyond PCIe. HBCC extends "VRAM" and has its own paging system to keep the most used pages in VRAM and moving in the other parts as needed from RAM. Whether this is a benefit effectively depends on how well game's own internal data paging/streaming system works.

What HBCC does is rework how Vega treats and manages memory. Primary technical change is enlarged address space - 49-bit if my memory serves right - plus the HBC controller itself to manage the data flow. Then there is some renaming like VRAM to HBC. It treats VRAM as the last-level cache and allows having the larger memory set somewhere else - system memory, Flash drive (like on Radeon Pro SSG) or even networked storage. This has quite nice implications for compute and some workstation applications where data sets are tens or hundreds of GBs. What HBCC does not solve is latency and bandwidth which are important for real-time applications like games.

In desktop/consumer space HBCC can and will use RAM as the larger memory space and VRAM as a cache. It does not tell a game anything and as far as we know does not accept guidance from the game either. There is an algorithm in HBCC to determine whether page in RAM is allocated and used or allocated and not used. If a page is allocated but not used, it will be moved to RAM to free up space in VRAM for other pages that may be more used. RAM is still behind PCIe with both bandwidth and latency penalty on access when compared to VRAM.

The principle behind HBCC is the same as almost every game engine today does with texture streaming. Games usually have a bunch of base data that they keep in memory and use constantly. In addition to that they use a dynamic pool of memory for textures (well, mostly textures anyway). Textures that are not used will be swapped out and ones that are going to be used are swapped in. With a lot more knowledge about the context (for example, when the texture may get used) this can be a more efficient method. This is what the Texture Quality setting does in Resident Evil 2 Remake.

In various game tests HBCC turned on is largely shown to perform within couple % of it turned off, both better and worse. It does work better in certain benchmarks - Superposition seems to be a good showcase for it - but that rarely translates to usable boost in actual games.

Finished Claire B run with time of 4hrs something and grade B, I have also finished collecting all the Mr.Raccoon statues so I have infinite knives now..safe to say it makes normal mode and exploring a lot more fun and easier now with infinite ammo pistol and knife.

The no b story sickens me, as an adept player of the original ps1 version, this disgusts me, aside from that, the A story of whichever character is very good, gameplay wise, graphics, all well.

To be able to play on hardcore, you need a powerful system to handle at least +60 fps, if not then there will be moments in which you will be pissed.

Game is extremely optimized. I will eventually purchase hardware based recording so that it doesn't eat system resources. But damn, on a W3680 @ stock and GTX 970 3.5GB, it is a solid performing game. I got all things on max except for a few options. Will adjust further.

Dunno if this was posted yet, but here is an indepth look into the games optimization and how much each setting taxes the system. It is good to view for new players.

Bought the new RE2 on this Marketplace for a little less than 33eu. The very best 33eu spent this year.
The game's captivating, the horror and camera-tensity is extremely realistic, the zombies are no idiots as well.
There're a bunch of things you must know in order to survive, and some familiar places are overhauled to perfection. I've been Resident Evil/Biohazard fan since 1998 and boy it was worth waiting 20years.
The new release is everything the fans have wanted and more. Solely my opinion tho.

Patches and new drivers have made small changes to performance when it comes to DX11 and DX12. With AMD card, you want DX12, with an Nvidia card, you want DX11.

ok..
its a good game. it Should be played on HARDCORE mode if you don't play hardcore mode the auto save feature change it from resident evil survival horror in to a weak tea shell of a game.
The story is different enough from the original to warrant a play through, The new engine and cameras do not detract from the feel of the game.
Ammunition is more plentiful than the original , but scarce enough to warrant conservation.

Zombies can most of the times take multiple head shots (and i mean MULTIPLE) on occasions 1 head shot will take them clean out.
Zombies take 1 shotgun shell to the head at close range (not 8 as some one mentioned above. no idea where they were shooting from)
Lickers are tough but die just fine and really fast with a flame weapon.

Puzzles aren't really puzzles any more though. its more a matter of combine a thing with a thing which is a shame. there are a few puzzles but they amount to the same puzzle a couple of times and one which is different.

the game is slightly more action biased imo but still manages to retain the feel and character of the original which i think is a very impressive feat, the original's clunky controls and fixed camera angles added to the whole, this has been replaced with tougher zombies which at times can feel cheap but in the long run is a good balance.

my biggest complaint about it is not being able to use 1920 x 1200 as a resolution, and that i have choices that amount to 1920x1080@50fps 1680x1050 @60fps or any resolution from 800x600:1920x1080 @ over 100fps with no vsynk. another issue that annoys me the vsynk option is not vsynk for me.
i run at 75hz. But if i enable vsynk it just locks the game to the refresh rate in the options menu.

So i would say 100% worth getting (if you were a fan of the original) and if you dont know.. well try the demo.
but dont play it on anything other than hardcore mode. you will just make the game a joke.
