I am upgrading cases, my previous case had them, but all of them were connected and it looked like the 24 pin thing, but now with my new case each of them are separate and I have no idea where to put them!

Without sounding harsh, read the notherboard manual, it's all in there and the pins are all marked as well.

I had a prebuilt and am making it into a gaming system. Could I search the mobo manual online?

You sure can, I'm sure you'll be able to find a PDF manual for the motherboard if you look closely on the motherboard you'll see where the main bank of pins for power(pwr) reset(rst) hdd activity LED (hdd) all correspond to the wires on your case, what was the prebuild make and model? Hopefully it wasn't an HP or Dell or something uses a proprietry motherboard size because you won't fit it into a regular ATX case and it won't all be marked as I have mentioned....

You might have jumped the gun if you have already bought the case, I'm not sure you'll a: be able to transfer it into a regular ATX spec case and b: use a standard ATX spec PSU as Dell's tend to be proprietry and don't have your regular 24 pin + 4/8/4+4 pin CPU connectors.

Often there will be very small print on the motherboard saying what pin is what. Try to take a good pic of the area with your phone. You can then zoom in a maybe read them. The new case should have them all labeled.

**Unless it's using a normal retail motherboard you are better off ditching upgrading the prebuilt idea.

Trouble is from his previous threads I think he has already bought a rosewill case/PSU and a red devil RX 580

http://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.net/43000231/images/dt1600we31225_5.jpg picture of the motherboard to my untrained eye looks like a mixture of ATX width and mATX depth though I'm fairly certain the hole mounts will not be ATX spec knowing Dell prebuilds..

I would see what wattage your PSU is, if it can handle your 580, leave it as is and be content, lesson learned, otherwise you might be able to find a higher wattage Dell PSU on ebay that will, but I don't think you'll be able to transfer this into another case and ATX PSU

You are absolutely correct on the motherboard hole mounts because this is a Dell proprietary one.
Another issue will be the required extra power lead for the RX 580 not to mention that it either comes with a 265-watt PSU or a 320-watt model which may not handle the new GPU.
The only saving feature is that it uses a regular size PSU which can actually be upgraded.
As for the pins, it also uses a proprietary connector, but the new case can actually accommodate for that because they come as stand-alone.

could try shorting the pins with a small screw driver with the unit shut down, but plugged in and powered, until you find the two pin combo that powers the system on and then after its on, short the pins until you find the two pin combo that resets.

You can buy a new ATX PSU according to the comment above yours by @hckngrtfakt and keep your case, motherboad, CPU and new rx 580 without having to buy anything else, I'd recommend going this route instead of spending even more money than you have to on a dead platform.

Measure the mounting holes, you dont need to take it all apart and try and transfer it just to find out it wont work.

Should I at least try to move the mobo to the new case?

I have decided on my PSU, I'll be getting an evga white 500w
That will do you fine, no need to buy another case/ motherboard etc

I'm fine with buying another mobo, but I am 12, I've never experienced a PC game yet. I know where all my plugs go in, on my current set up. I just want to see what For Honor and Fortnite is like, tbh. (I've played fortnite on mobile and on my brother's ps4). I don't care about max settings, just 60fps consistently. I

Send the case back for refund buy your PSU, sell the old Xeon CPU and that's about the best for the buck you will get with that setup until you're ready to upgrade again down the line (as in when you're not happy with the performance and it doesnt offer up decent 60fps performance anymore, but you should be set for a good while yet with those specs) in which case you will know not to go for another pre build and maybe be in a position to build it yourself from scratch :toast: plus you'll have gained the most valuable thing, knowledge

I tried refunding the case, $40 shipping I am in VA, new egg is in CA. I'd only get $14 after taxes and stuff. I'll sell my cpu, thanks for the knowledge.

The case is actually decent, but I don't know whether I should keep it. It cost me $70

you could keep it then buy another motherboard but you're getting to the point where you could have nearly built a new Ryzen 1600/16GB/580 for the same cost you have upgraded the prebuilt, ie: not worth throwing more money into an older lower performing DDR3 platform than you have to, you should have posted first about your proposed plans and we could have saved you some time and money.

I think... I don't have a dell optiplex 990, but it has the same kind of looking mobo. Would this work>>>>>>>>>>>

it will likely be the same Dell proprietry layout so no it wont go into an ATX case, it's still a dell, if you're insistent on transferring the parts into a non-Dell ATX case like you have bought you will need a lga1155 motherboard either z68 or z77 that is not from Dell,HP or anyother prebuilt. So any MSI, Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte Biostar etc. But again you're spending more money and time when in short the easiest thing to do would be to probably use the PSU yoiu have in the Rosewill case, sell the case as bnib on eBay/Gumtree etc and be happy, I wouldn't reccommend spending more money.

with my psu
it will likely be the same Dell proprietry layout so no it wont go into an ATX case, it's still a dell, if you're insistent on transferring the parts into a non-Dell ATX case like you have bought you will need a lga1155 motherboard either z68 or z77 that is not from Dell,HP or anyother prebuilt.
I got the case, because my GPU doesn't' fit into the dell one. I'll just get a new mobo if it doesn't work.

Is that because of the RAM slots? (just going off the stock picture I have found of your PC)

No, there's a pcie at the bottom of the case, pretty sure.

Just can't fit in, then again, I could just make a cardboard case, if really need to.

Yes I see that also, but you stated the GPU won't fit, it won't fit in either PCIE slot?

It WOULD fit, but there's not enough space in the case for my huge rx 580

Should've gone for a 1050ti that gets power from the pcie, too late now
