I've never dealt with this before. Got 2 860 evos 500gbs, one is great for my buddy... mine is toast. Can't format it, can't see from windows or linux. My only chance at a dam 500gb ssd.
I have the packaging.. so I'll need 10 bucks in canada post boxing to send it back, and probably 30 bucks shipping. I really want to just throw it out the window at this point.
Seems to be an issue with older chipsets. Anyone need a 500gb evo 860 for cheap? Nevermind it works as a flash drive at much slower speeds in my drive dock.
Anyone with x79 or old chipsets, dont bother with even ssd 860 evos, will not work right. 850s are okay.

Newegg is pretty far away for us in BC. Have you contacted Samsung to see what they say? My experiences with them are pretty positive, except for the time I wanted support for my 850 EVO with a partly broken physical power connector (still works) and they couldn't help me because I was in the UK and it was bought in Canada. But that shouldn't be an issue for you.

I don't see why it shouldn't work. It's a SATA3 drive, not much different from the 850 EVO. Are you sure the board isn't just getting towards the end of its life?

Test in other machines. If it doesn't work contact NewEgg for RMA. If that doesn't work contact Samsung. It's simple.

Unfortunately warranty differs depending on what part of the world youre from. Your SSD was allocated to a particular region and taking out of region means youre out of that warranty zone.
Id be pissed too but they are basically following their procedures. Had you bought it in CA, Been in CA and tried to warranty it then got refused, that would be an entirely different matter.

Thats just how things work sadly. I dont work for them so i dont know what sort of hoops they would need to jump through to warranty your SSD for you thats out of zone. it probably wouldnt even accept it for RMA when they input the serial number into their system because that SSD is 'locked' to a different region.

One of the many reasons why im so cautious about buying stuff from hong kong. Back in the day when PC stuff was much cheaper. I could buy £600's worth of graphics card but if it goes wrong then there's not a lot i can do apart from maybe send it to a relative in hong kong and have they deal with the RMA process for me and i already know they wont do it because they are very busy people.

Its just not worth the hassle.

^^ that. And I highly doubt it's age of your chipset. Typing this with #1 system in my signature, and that is a x58 based.

DOA new products should be returned to the retailer for refund or replacement. If you contact support and tell them that return shipping is excessive, they may purchase a return shipping label for you to use (which they can get discounts for) or tell you to keep it and send you a new one.

I've seen pretty high failure rates for Samsung SSDs including one that would cause an entire system to hang when connected.

This. Most retail establishments have reasonable return policies and are willing to be flexible if you explain your situation.

Can you double check it with HD Sentinel ?
But i agree with @FordGT90Concept
You need to contact the seller in the first place.

Have you not gone to My Orders and identified yours, and then clicked the refund or replace buttons? They will then, after a few stepes generate an RMA label which goes to your email. I believe also a copy is placed on your MY Orders screen in Newegg too.

I have an 870 EVO on a PCI-E slot adapter working fine with an Asus X79 Deluxe, I think i had to disconnect all other drive's and enable something in the bios for it to "See" it.

Since when are ssd's, or any other pc parts, except maybe for GPU's and disk burners, locked to specific regions of the world ???

Granted you may have to contact cust. svc. in the country where you bought it, but that should be the extent of what you need to do to get an RMA...

Call the vendor and Sammy...be polite but firm, but insist on getting an RMA or warranty replacement, like, yesterday....

When they advertise warranties from EU or USA/NA/SA that are different from each other. Its been this way for the longest time. They do it with hard drives too and Amazon has been one of the worst propagators of this behaviour. On and off they will procure stock that was designated for other countries and sell them 'out of zone'. Your three year manufacturers warranty becomes a one year shop/retail warranty.

Being 'polite but firm' wont get you anywhere if they really cant do anything for you because the serial number on the product is registered to a different country. Sometimes this can be circumvented because the manufacturer allows you to send the defective unit directly to them for RMA but at the same time there are a lot of manufacturers that wont do that and ask you to return to the store you bought the card from and have them initiate the RMA process because they are an authorised partner/distributor etc etc etc.

Dont get mad at them for trying to shirk responsibility when its written in small print on their warranty policy.

Getting mad at them is like getting mad at your vet for not being able to bring your dead cat or dog back to life. No amount of kicking and screaming is going to help. You either jump through the hoops of maybe enlisting the help of a friend or family member who might live in the warranty region to help or you move on and get a new product. Swallow that cost and no longer buy their products.

Its mainly put in place to stop people buying all the stock from cheaper countries and selling it overseas where it costs more. For instance if you can buy a phone in India for $100 but then the same phone costs $300 in the USA or richer countries then the manufacturer has to find a way to lock the phones to a certain region to prevent them from being sold overseas because if something should go wrong. they wont be covered by the warranty. Some people might care, some people wont but it doesnt matter as the manufacturer has to protect their brand. Stupid people are always going to complain about manufacturers no warrantying a product they bought pre-owned off ebay.

Wow, what has happened? I haven't really dealt with high volumes of drives in a few years so maybe I'm a bit out of touch. I've personally never seen a single Samsung SSD of any flavor go bad. In my own machines, clients machines, you name it. Over the years, I think I've installed at least fifty 830 series, hundreds of the 840 series and maybe thirty 850 and 860 series combined. Only one 960 and no 970 series drives. I never had a DOA and like I said no other failures. You expect a few lemons when you do a few hundred drive installs, the odds are against you.

Oh, I was thinking about grabbing a 970 EVO Plus for my upgrade. I didn't want to get more Samsung drives if they where suddenly having quality issues.

Check Samsung Magician software and I'll bet it shows it's running at x2 speeds.

For OP: I would contact NewEgg and explain your dilemma. They might help you out. Its worth a try at least.

I screamed at it a bunch. Worked. Some weird stuff happened while installing to it, no partition but files... I don't know. Used linux to repartition it and format it, then I was able to
install to it no problem. Even experienced computer users get thrown a curve ball from time to time. Arg.

When they advertise warranties from EU or USA/NA/SA that are different from each other. Its been this way for the longest time.
No, you are confusing warranty laws with products.

SSDs are NOT region specific (like DVD and Blue-Ray drives, and some PSUs might be). Regardless, the OP said absolutely nothing about buying this SSD in one part of the world and trying to return it in another part. It seems to me he bought it Canada and he's still in Canada. So I fail to see why this region issue was even brought up. It is just causing unnecessary confusion.

I buy lots of stuff from Newegg (US) and it is my experience it is very easy to return defective products to them. I don't know if Newegg Canada is different, I suspect not, but here, you do have to pay return shipping but they pay shipping for the replacement, or give a full refund. HOWEVER - if they test the product and it tests NTF (no trouble found), they may charge you a restocking fee.

Also, there is return policy that limits your time to return it to them. It is typically 30 days when you can return it to Newegg. If you wait longer than the specified number of days, you may have to deal with the manufacturer instead.
