Display Port to HDMI Cable/Converter?

I have a DELL M6500 laptop that has no HDMI out, only Display Port. I want to used the laptop with two different TV's to watch movies on HDD and streaming video. Of course the TV's only have HDMI inputs.

Has anyone used any converter cables to do that, or is it dependent on the graphics in the laptop?

Displayport natively supports HDMI. Any simple adapter will do what you want.

EDIT: That's a full size adapter, your laptop may have mini displayport, in which case get a mini displayport to HDMI adapter.

As pointed out above, as long as the laptop is DP++ compatible, you just need a simple adapter.
However, as this is a rather old notebook, you most likely need an active adapter, as I don't think it supports DP++.
So something like this should do the trick.

DP = active adapter
DP++ >4K30 = active adapter HDMI 2.0
DP++ <=4K30 = passive adapter HDMI 1.4
DP++ <=1920x1200 @ 60 Hz = passive adapter HDMI 1.3

Very well. I've never met a DP device that didn't play well with a passive HDMI adapter, but that's just anecdotal.

Just be mindful that it is 1080p60/4K30 (HDMI 1.4). I think it's passive too because it says this in the description: "Attention: If few docking station doesn't support DP++ Mode, another active dp adapter is required." If it doesn't work then you're probably dealing with DP, not DP++.

The cheap adapters don't seem to do audio, or at least the ones I had that came with the cards didn't.

I bought a cable from Amazon for $4 that works great.

I also bought a HDMI to Composite adapter, fed that to a modulator, and have CH3 being my computer screen all over the house, even at the pool on an old TV.

I built an Antenna driver for it, to hook to the old off-the-air antenna on the roof, so I can send signal to the land by the river; but I haven't figured out the mouse, lol.

Around the house just carry an RF cordless mouse in my pocket, lol.

The main computer has my DVD/Blu-ray video collection, my 200GB MP3 collection, and YT access for the rest, lol.

You'd have to go into your Sound Properties and default the DP sound device (AMD/Intel/NVIDIA) to get sound through it. It isn't automatic.
