Hi, I want to replace my old RX 580 8GB Nitro+ (1500Mhz core) since It was temporary solution and... I it's little too weak for 4K (slideshow in some games).

I want to get 2070 Super. I'm thinking which one to choose? I'd like to have 4pin PWM controller for a fan since I have two silentwings 3 at the bottom of my case (I want them parried with gpu).

My first choices are:
1) ASUS Strix O8G - 649€
2) EVGA FTW 3 - 644€

ASUS has Aura, which I'd like to have (X470 C7H WIFI and rgb ram). It has also two 4pin pwm fan connectors. But I won't be able to change tim because of warranty stickers (EU is not USA)... -.- and asus likes to void warranty (they have bad service rep here).
FTW3 on the other hand has waaaaay better warranty (EVGA =). Has one 4pin pwm connector and I have Y Pwm cable so it should work. I can live without aura. But I'm concerned about gpu sagging. I hate it. Seriously, like a drill in a brain. I have PC next to me on my desk. :p
Both have excellent power limit. I love fan-stop in idle since I'm doing a loot of office stuff (and there still be airflow from case fans).

MSI Trio has pathetic power limit, no 4pin connector and is 40€ cheaper.

What I'm expecting from GPU:
- that it won't hit power limit early when playing at merciless 4K
- very good cooling (I have excellent case airflow with a legion of 140mm 1000rpm fans, I don't like to torture my hardware even with OC)
- cooling should be "quiet" (at least without strange bearing sound like from Nitro+ when 1500+ rpm lol)

Which one would you pick? And yes, I will overclock till last 1Mhz will be tamed, depending on silicon lottery and my pathetic luck with desktop gpus. :)
GPU will be replaced in max 2 years for like RTX 4080 or ultra big Navi gen2 etc.

You want to, what ? Disassemble the card and power it's fans in sync with the case fans from the motherboard ?

It is, but for games like Hearts of Iron 4 or Warcraft 3. o_O Gothic Armada 2 was running good in 4K but... I wouldn't say that about Shadow of War or Metro Exodus and def. not Total War Warhammer 2 or WoW BFA.

I've read some reviews and... I feel like these 2 cards are clones. I still don't know which GPU saggs the least. For warranty I'd go for EVGA, for RGB that gives +50% benchmark scores ASUS.
Both will have same OC limit (+- 2100MHz) and both seems to use cheap micron vram (I wanna see samsung or hynix). :( Both have short 3 year warranty.

ASUS has fan-stop only in quiet bios mode, which gets pretty hot (75*c) and probably lowers max clocks when OC.

Mby there is some secret hardware voodoo that will help me to pick, that's why I came here. I'd like to "stay away from 'da voodoo".

And... my heart (which I ignore usually lol) says to go with EVGA since they're not huge as ASUS and have €€€ problems and still provide better support.

You want to, what ? Disassemble the card and power it's fans in sync with the case fans from the motherboard ?

No, both EVGA FTW3 and STRIX have normal fan 4pin connectors to control case-fans from GPU-level (not CPU like on motherboard).
That will allow me to sync bottom-case fans with GPU speed.

I have no idea how you will parry your GPU fan with case fans but that sounds like a bad idea. The GPU fans need to be controlled by the card to prevent the GPU from overheating. The case fans have no way of knowing what the GPU fan speed needs to be.

I'm not talking about GPU integrated fans but external case-fans connected to GPU external 4pin pwm slots.

And yes, when I'm paying +115€ (Gigabyte 2070S Gaming is for 529€) I expect cooling to be powerful and quiet.

@add (if any1 would have same dilemma). I have chosen the EVGA way. Still cheaper than Strix O8G. It has also slighty better cooling and is real 3-slot. Easier to maintain. No warranty stickers (that are legal in crappy EU). And customer service is way better. ASUS Aura and nice design wasn't enough for ASUS to win that duel. :|

Ordered, ETA next week. :)

got 2070 super trio for myself,at stock setting the card boosts to 1950mhz,stays at 64 degrees, and would you believe that D15S in pwm mode cooling a 70W cpu is more audible.

MSI has great cooling. I loved it since first TwinFrozr's. Let's hope they gonna fix powerlimit via bios for your Trio soon. PCB and cooling on Gaming X Trio would handle 2100Mhz without any problems.

there's no real difference anyway, trio can do 2060mhz.would not upgrade the bios for it.

Put it in real load, 4K for example. It will not hold it for a second. It has too low powerlimit according to TPU. But as I've heard there is bios with higher powerlimit for trio coming soon.
It is lower than FE, and about 100w lower than FTW3. But I hope it's gonna be raised to 300 at least.

the fps difference would be margin of error anyway.
I'd rather have a quieter card than a 1% faster one.

and I run stock.I'm kinda past my chasing after every mhz phase.

Yeah, that's true. But in 4K scenario low board power-limit can have high impact on performance, if GPU hits it's limit before it's core limit.
High-res makes it harder to maintain high boost frequency, as chip is under higher load (99% under 1080p is not quite the same as 99% under 2160p). Overclocking scenario comes after.

And I'm using 4K, so I had to think about it when choosing GPU. I did such error once, I'm not going to repeat it.

Have you looked at the TPU reviews ?

1. Can't speak to 4k as have not found a 144 hz or better monitor 1 w/ a AuOptronics 10 bit IPS panel and ULMB support .... nor a card with the juice to drive it.

2. EVGA used to have decent warranty program, but the history of VRM issues, heat sinks missing the GPU (970) and cheaping out be leaving out thermal pads (1060 - 1080) have folks soured on them. Asus ruled the roost performance wise thru 600 series, and thru 9xxx, 1xxx and 2xxx, MSI would top the performance charts more often that .ot ... but not here where they come in 4th with a 160.3 fps OC

3. The table below compared TPus test results ... where 2 BIOSs were yested I used the one that was the default for other testing where it could be determined. MSI default BIOS provides the passive cooling option ... others offer it on a second BIOS option which of course means, at the higher OC / FPS ... the passive 0 dbA cooling option is not available.

Look at the numbers and features and pick the one that checks most of ya boxes ... from what you have described, it looks like the Asus.

Between these two you mentioned, I would aim towards Asus. Warranty means very little in your case, because you mentioned that in just 2 years or less you'll replace it with something else. Overwhelming majority of GPU's in EU come with 24-month waranty and very few come with 36-month. As for the resale price afterwards it will depend on the GPU condition. OC'ed GPU are approx. 20-30% cheaper than those that were never overclocked.
If you don't push it to hard, if you clean it regularly and if you avoid dumb aggressive OC, it will last for quite some time. When you'll finally decide to sell it, just don't be one of those pricks who squeezed every single bit of fat out of their GPU and then try to sell it "like new, condition 10/10, newer overclocked, never used for mining, temps never above 65°C". :)

IMO "founders" nVidia RTX 2070 Super has the best looks, while every other AIB looks cheap and/or ridiculous (long gone beautiful AIB GTX 10XX series). They'll also resale for a higher value. I don't know what's the price of one of these, because they are next to impossible to find in the EU.

The thing is that there's very little difference between the various brands who base their GPU's on the same chip. I would go for whichever looks better if the price difference isn't far apart from the average competitor.

Yup, I read them carefully for a few times.
1) Acer a.k.a. AU Optronics doesn't make high-refresh 10bit AHVA, it's 8bit+FRC. Had to say it :p (I returned about 10+ monitors with that qhd high-refresh ahva displays due to above-average bleeding or bad pixels). Still I loved AHVA 4K display in Clevo P870.

2) Missing thermal pads were on 1070 FTW2. My friend had this problem, but after contact EVGA sent him full set. As my memory sees everything was well solved by EVGA without any problems or ignoring customer, so I would say win/win and I forgive them for that support. I've had MSI GT73VR and some service issues and guess what, lawyer helped after 2 months of arguing since they didn't cared about premium customer that paid heavy money. ~~

3) EVGA FTW3 have fan-stop (0dB) in idle... on a first bios (main). Second one has it disabled. So don't say it's only MSI feature, because it is not. Passive cooling is present on every card except ngreedias FE (STRIX has it on the second, "quiet" bios profile).

And ASUS have very, very bad service in my country (exceeding time, badly done etc.). Not only opinion, but they are really bad. And instantly voiding warranty after removing stickers (changing thermal paste for example). Friend of mine lost warranty on 980Ti after changing paste, even if it wasn't connected to GPU fail. RTX are quite often dying so I'd have mixed feeling about trusting them again.

This chart tells me exactly that TRIO is the worst among TOP AIB's (Palit Gamerock would be better and cheaper...). Lowest (almost pathetic) power limit [BUT it should be fixed soon with a BIOS update!], lowest performance, 100Hz worse OC than STRIX or FTW3. It is still hotter than EVGA or ASUS, but it's quietest [something for something] - but both doesn't matter since all temps on every GPU are under 68*c and all are under 34dB's. STRIX is the loudest of these 3.

2070S FE is almost impossible to tear down. I will never support such trollish anti-customer practice (never). And it seems worst of all. Power limit and temps, no fan-stop in idle... And as for me any my black matte build with dark red rgb - it's damn ugly. :p
900 series - these we're sweeeeet for my eyes, even with weak blower cooling. Loud, but badass looking.

And where FE have better resell value? They are weakest, impossible to disassembly, don't have any features and aren't quietest or coolest. In EU they are cheapest on the aftermarket, along with gainward, palit (lower versions) and gigabyte windforce/gaming. Just compare it's price - 529€ compared to 645€ of FTW3 or 650€+ for Strix A8G/O8G.

They are impossible to find because nvidia has huge limit on their EU warehouse/store. Way lower availability than US market. They are always instant sold out but it's because they give like 50pcs per delivery... they have way less than 1% of EU market. EVGA's (all except that black edition which is VERY poor and expensive), ASUS STRIX, TRIO are best in holding their value, due to huge demand on aftermarket.

Buy a 5700XT

Blower reference design? No thanks. And I'm not going to wait 2 months. :p AMD shot itself in a knee, or even chest with a .50 lol

Your loss

Don't get me wrong. I already had it in my hands. And my friend returned it after few days. We even done little "mod" that Tech Jesus suggested (GamerNexus). This reference design is so bad... I had for example two-core HD 4870x2 with reference blower style... Not going with this hell again.
We've seen huge temps and daaaaaamn loour acoustics from that 5700XT.
Performance? Fine. Excellent without doubt and I like sharpening feature. But... Big no for reference and I'm don't have 2 months to wait, and even one more since eastern europe is like 3rd world for manufacturers.
