Every time I go somewhere I try to stop at the closest Microcenter...
On my current gaming PC I got the CPU/gpu/Mobo/memory at the Mayfield hts, Ohio store (Cleveland) and I got my case and my 140mm fans at the Rockville, MD store (D.C.) and my cooler at the Dublin, Ohio store (Columbus).

I try to make it to the Mayfield hts store at least 4 times a year...

You can also get a Ryzen 2600 ($120) with your choice of 4 mid-range b450 mobo's for $150.

I can't go near that place. When I'm right across the road from it, I'm in the process of spending several hundred at the International Grocery store, and there's no way I could double the bill in one trip lol. Still... I drool a lot as we go by....

Why would you even look at Intel CPUs right now tho?

For the same reason you would look at AMD CPUs; you want to build a PC for a specif set of task(s) within a set budget and it's kind of hard to achieve said tasks without a CPU.

I'd rather pay $30 more for the non-k 9700 65w, so temps stay nice and cool even at 4.7 all core no downclocking

lot of issues with chipset drivers and mobo bios still. destiny 2 still doesn't work, even the alpha chipset driver has some issues with other games. in short, there are still several reporting not able to get advertised ram speeds easily, where as on intel its just xmp select and reboot, pretty easy.

in short though AMD just has a lot of work to do on driver side still. GamersNexus report lots of crashing and forced reboots after a couple hours of gaming

With the new pricing plus more/less expensive motherboards to choose from, it's not that difficult.

I gamed all day Saturday last weekend without any issues. If people are getting crashes it is not a universal experience.

hilarious weve hit the same ones... all three. I'm from NE ohio, lived in cbus for over 13 years total (now - I'm 20 mins away from the Bethel store), and lived 20 mins away from the Rockville md location.

nope, I am talking about overall stability. including AMD BIOS updates for Ryzen CPU's which it has pulled, now another one in alpha, that still doesn't work fully at supporting Destiny 2. it is a representation of their overall level of software expertise. but alright.

Don’t mind him. Here's some information. Running a 9700 or 9700K at the same volts and clocks will, in theory, run cooler on the 9700K due to the soldered interface. They will run at the same temps under the same conditions. It’s the same silicon! Nothing special to make it a “65w” or “95w” part.

.......
My 2 cents. :D

Some of us don't like overclocking, in fact, the last 9700k I owned kept getting whea errors even when I tried minor overclocking, and prime95 would always fail as well, and it was just a 4.8ghz oc... extremely minor oc. memory was b-die and on XMP. it seems easier to use max boost all core toggle switch, which isn't an OC, then I would still get good temps without having any issues while still runing 5ghz all core no downclocking, assuming it was the 65w chip.

WHEA is typically voltage related. It can be CPU, cache, VCCSA, VCCIO, PLL.... numerous combinations. No one said OC was always easy. It’s going beyond manufacturer specs, and no guarantees. 4.7 GHz is deemed an overclock when on all cores. This has been mentioned countless times. So your logic is flawed there. It’s beyond turbo specs, and only implemented by board vendors.

It just sounds like you had one poor experience and are all against it because you couldn’t get it stable. It takes work and knowledge, which only comes from playing with it.

That's exactly what I just said in my original post... I said no one that I know of or read online has tried all core max boost without overclocking with easy BIOS checkbox with the new non-k 65w chips so I don't know if it works or not yet.... and I am genuinely curious if it works or not... but thanks for actually reading me out of context

I live 15 minutes from one but am not interested in building a machine at the moment. I am considering going for a CFL-S 8 core in the distant future as a drop in upgrade but the prices need to fall more. My almost 2 year old 8600K is still adequate for almost everything I do except video encoding MP4/H264.
