I discovered the first Gen Ryzens back in 2017 I knew AMD was onto something very special and with the 2nd Gen launch I almost pulled the trigger and went AMD ! but I waited....

So hey Guys I just want to share, it's AWESOME and I'm very happy : ) I got my Ryzen CPU exactly three weeks after the 7th of July Launch which was last week Thursday !

SOLD my old gaming PC (2012 - Core i7 - 3770K ) just prior purchasing the new hardware, motherboard, so I was just waiting for the CPU, past Thursday I installed the CPU and setup everything, after some BIOS tuning, XMP setting my PC is awesome now ! it feels so cool when it blasts into Windows and all ready for gaming !

ALLOUT AMD !!

cheers !!

LOL, you like it so much, you spelled Ryzen in the title wrong in your excitement! :p

In looking at your system specs @johnny-r , what is that RAIDMAX PSU? They are literally TRASH and better served to start FIRES than to power your PC. Get a new PSU ASAP, like, today. An EVGA G3 650W is plenty for that setup including overclocking and a GPU upgrade.

thanks I fixed it, Trash, not anymore but I know exactly what you mean, I had another about 7 years ago, not happy with it at all, not to mention the humming noise, If I remember correctly the Radmax Corbra from around 2010-2014 received bad feedback ,the new Raidmax PSU lineup are quite good ! Mine - the 730SS with 80+ rating, very happy with this one and looks great as well !

probably not a lot of economical options in south africa but yeah Raidmax would not be my personal first, second, or third choice for a PSU brand

I'd simply hate for this new rig to be taken down by that potato of a PSU. It is less economically advisable to risk an entire PC versus paying for a quality PSU (as you know - that is more for the OP).

Mine - the 730SS with 80+ rating, very happy with this one and looks great as well !
You bought ANOTHER Raidmax??? Oye...

80 Plus is an efficiency rating. There are plenty of garbage PSUs that can meet 80 Plus anything. Looks mean nothing to the quality, or lack thereof, inside.

EDIT: I cannot find any reviews on it, but if its Raidmax, at BEST it is serviceable... at worst you might as well play with gas and fire close to each other.. Seriously, find another PSU. If you give us a link to where you buy from we can suggest a quality unit instead of continuing with what is likely to be trash.

Raidmax is notorious for using Andyson as the OEM who themselves are notorious for cutting corners. Your PSU is functioning more on the fact you are pulling about 225-250w from it while gaming which is lucky because I have serious doubts it could push past 80% of power and remain stable and/or efficient.

Thanks for the advise guys, so by the way I had a Cooler Master 650W fail on me, only a couple years of use, it was more noisy than this Raidmax, infact the only fan I can hear currently is my GPU when playing games etc.

but thanks for the advise I will look into it. FWIW I only got rid of that old Raidmax because of that humming noise it made, according to the shop selling the latest Raidmax PSU's they don't get any comebacks.

But it is under warrantee and I could get it returned or swapped out....

what other PSU's wil you recommend, what about Thermaltake Smart Series RGB ?

As I just said above, where are you buying your parts? Is there a website?

The Tt Smart series RGB is better than any Raidmax.

LOL, BULLSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIT. :)

If they think these are decent/good, then you need to shop other places. What other models do they have?

basic review of that platform, personally I would skip it

I'm not sure what options and price points you have. PSU from brands like Corsair, EVGA and Seasonic tend to carry a surcharge over seas. You can try a brand like Antec who carries multiple OEM units and seems to be competitively priced over seas. Maybe superflower sells a unit under its own brand near you. We would need a list of options to make any specific recommendations.

Antec VP500 v1 or v2? It's an OK PSU but rather old in PSU years. Any Antec HCG 520w units available?

yep, great size and quality picture

Is this web site an option for you? If so what about this PSU? It received solid reviews from bit tech and kit guru. It won't win any parts awards but its more then solid and capable of giving you full power at 40c.

yeah ! I respect Intel and over the years my first choice, I was impressed with the Athlon 64+ CPU's back in the day around 2003, think I had a 3000+ at the time and Intel launched the Core2duo's based on the Pentium M CPU's as a counter measure, that was the first time I really started noticing AMD, the Thunderbird before that apparently kick ass as well but all the rumors about overheating won me over.

the same happened with ATi back in the day. I remember having directX 8 card, Geforce Ti 4200 Ultra if memory serves me well, when I saw the ATI Radeon 9700/9800 series and the 9800 Pro / XT, that was wow for me !

I'd still go no less than 600w. This way you can upgrade your GPU and cpu without worry as well as overclock if you choose.

For years AMD whas for me not the go for choise. As in years amd cpu's performance whas lagging behind intel.

But with ryzen 3000 i have to admit amd is back very strong.

I am also gonna join the ryzen 3000 club, but i have to wait until ryzen 9 3950X comes out. The wait is long, but hopefully worfh the wait.

Ill give my current PSU a try for now, it is rated 80+ bronze certified, if it pop's or burns to bad , I have good insurance also, but Im not worried at all, friend of mine is running the same PSU for over a year now, he reckons it still kicks, little to no noise...Ill revert back to a new Cooler Master or something similar. Been playing Rage 2 and Rise of the tombraider since the weekend and installed Shadow of the Tombraider, its got a cool benchmark test under video settings, got 66fps ave, high to ultra settings, only full hd of course.

Oh did some overclocking on my rx580, will give some feedback later.

That will be my ryzen when it comes out. this 3900x stock situation is a little discouraging though.

80+ rating has VERY LITTLE to do with quality of the PSU. If you want to risk using it, that is your call, but I surely would not. Anecdotes of success should not lull you into believing the thing is good.

Life is full of risks and I think you mistake this Psu for previous models, I just check the box out, neat and slick cables arrangement, its even got a 135mm blower, no signs of being bad or cheap, beautiful black satin finish and recommended for sli/crossfire arrangements, the approvals speaks for itself: UL / CUL /FCC/TUV /CE /CCC /CB /C-tick

Also aFPC - which is found in more expensive PSU's

Oh and its 85+ efficient

Lets see, I've searched some feedback and only the old models appears, cant find anything negative as yet.

But thanks for your concern.
