Help! Problem with motherboard

I experienced abrupt power loss yesterday while the machine was booting up, it then started giving me a message that files were missing and/or corrupt in registry (c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM). The real problem is once I put in the install disc to try and run the recovery console, it refuses to boot the optical drive. It blinks for a couple seconds after I initially put the disc in but doesn't even attempt to boot with it. Changing boot priority did nothing.

To test out whats going on I put in a secondary hdd I have laying around with Win XP pro on it (its all functioning), it tries to boot up that drive but shows a blue screen for half a second and then the system restarts automatically.

So right now I'm sitting on my main HD experiencing a corrupted registry (i believe) and my motherboard refusing to boot from optical and failing to boot from the secondary hdd.

Please help.

First suspect is PSU, second would be memory, third mobo.

Try reseting CMOS Jumper, check/reseat RAM, check mobo for obviouse dammage (use a flashlight to look for burn marks, blackened parts, or swollen caps. Then try reboot.
If nogo then try diff PSU. IF nogo try diff RAM. IF nogo than most likeley Mobo is gone,
check chipset for dammage.

try disassembling and then reassembling the whole system. any wiring faults that were there would be corrected.

idk about the memory, but the psu and mobo seem like prime suspects, but it's usually the psu that fries stuff. have you tried using a different cd drive?

yea neither of them work. everything in the mobo options seems functional. it even says its attempting to boot from disc, does nothing then defaults back to trying the hdd boot.

inspected the mobo with a flashlight, nothing looked different.

my guess is that part of your mobo is fried, you dont need to c any visible damage.

Naw I haven't. Gonna wait a couple days to see if any more insight on this problem can be found.

If part of the mobo is fried is it possible just to replace that one area or would it be easier just getting a new one?
