When playing a video game, if my system after abour an hour or gameplay all of a sudden slows down so much so that even the sound in my headphones begins to become distorted and eventually frozen...

Is that a symptom that points to a particular fault in my system?

Ram instability? If so, can XMP profiles be unstable?

Power related issue? If a psu is going bad would this be a symptom?

Or could it be something else?

Have any of you had that type of crash, and if so what was the culprit in your case?

Slows down? Sounds like it may be a heat issue.

This can be heat, and if the audio gets 'looped' or goes all mad robot on you, I'd also try a replacement PSU.

Yes the audio is acting up. I do suspect the psu although it's supposed to be a good one. A thermaltake bronze certified 1200w psu... Model SP-1200MPCBUS

It happens every now and then, if feels like the system is slowly stopping to a halt and towards the end the Audio distorts and has repetitions of weird sounds and the screen completely freezes in place without a bsod or anything of the like... I'm stuck having to restart

I do notice that when this happens my gpu fans drop in speed whilst its happening

Ram or psu/temperatures, how hot is your room when it crashes on average. How old is that psu?

Does it only happen with just the one game?? It could be the game itself that suffers from a memory leak so it literally eats up all your ram and causes your PC to crash. I know for a while that ARMA II did this to me an awful lot.

Sometimes that's what it takes to fix Windows 10... Updates make a mess of things to the point where it becomes a nightmare.

Especially in 10, there was 2 updates like that in 2016 for W7 too

sounds unreasonable that windows updates could cause heat like symptoms, especially after several hours. There MIGHT have been some other issue you dealt with by re-formating, say driver settings/version, power managements configuration, hpet timers and so on. How long has the system been installed before and when did the issue start?
However, since you think it is resolved, pay carefull attention as you re-install your apps and games, to notice a point after which the issue may come back/ or not.
What i mean is you could have masked the issue instead of finding the culprit.

never heard of a good thermaltake! :) bronze is also bottom of barrel no?

Oh i guess i missed your post about windows being the problem :) i was going to suggest a different hard drive / clean install to take that out of the mix, you reinstalled to the same hard drive? i love to upgrade my os drive maybe you did the same.
