May I also direct your attention to the 2GB ram upgrade I just did, mainly for the purpose of demonstrating superiority.

I had a prototype chromebook during Google's Chrome OS Pilot Program that had a Atom 455. I wish I still had it, unfortunately a modification I had made resulted in a short, and a puff of smoke. I was overclocking the CPU, and tried to improve the cooling. Had at the time a remarkable resolution of 1280x960 which outclassed the first retail chromebooks.

I got one a while back, and yup total garbage, my old Lenovo R61 is way more productive, sure different OS and but those things don't really work with the supplied OS.

I had one as well, but mine was based on the Atom N330 and Nvidia Ion, for the time, it did an impressively acceptable level of gaming. I have to agree with the opinions of others concerning the single core versions of Atoms, they were lacking.

Well, technically the original one was more perfect (I did have one). Because having two large speakers on each side of the screen doesn't affect the screen size....at all.
Come to think of it though, that Linux Tux Racer game was quite addictive.

I really wish laptop builders would do this. The speaker to the sides of the screen would be excellent. Even right below would be better than just about everything available now..

upon googling, the 900 was what i had - it was okay for basic note taking but it couldnt even do youtube video playback, and the low screen res broke so many websites (login popups appearing off screen, etc)

It was truely a shamefull piece of crap. Got 10th of them stored in a cabinet at work, collecting dust.

This haunts me, we have about 50 pieces of trashed Gigabyte T1000X-es used for repair training and a few of these Asus things beyond repair waiting for scrapping since quite some time now. The hardware inside both of those is hot garbage.

You need to put windows xp on these to be able to do anything really.

AndroidX86 is very usefully as well and runs better than XP.

I did use the asus x1000 for studying, it was nice in a time when tablets were a rare, expensive and constrained commodity and laptopts were heavy compared to today standards. It was dual core with a gig of ram and 8 gigs of ssd. Just slapped 2 gigs and lubuntu, the thing could handle word processors, youtube and played some heroes of might and magic on it between classes.

It was very similar to the op's one, it had the same processor, but mine was in white.
