Apart from start up issues, the game is excellent...
check it out. I dont allow adverts on my vids. All settings very high motion blur low. Rtx shadows highest... Check out the light penetrating the water at the beginning after the ice intro. Amazing!!!! go to 01.18.01 for a monster fight thats one of the best looking animals ive seen in a game.

Seriously good game... all time fav for me easy. I'm right in the middle of my umpteenth playthrough.

It's kinda like fallout... only if the story was better (oh my GOD is it better,) the visuals were better, the players actions had more weight, the world was more convincing and dark, the scripted events were more cohesive, the looting/crafting system wasnt bogged down with grinding and meaningless hoarding, the weapons were more interesting and strategically nuanced, the fights and traversal were more dynamic, exploration was more intriguing and rewarding... I could go on...

Also the only rtx game with an rtx implementation that's worth half a goddamn. The GI is really interesting and really does add to the feel quite nicely while still being usable on all rtx cards. Still not nearly good enough but it does make you want to see more.

Anybody who hasn't played this by now probably should've about 6 months ago. It's one of those indie games you just can't miss. One of those really rare passion projects with execution to match. One of the best ever, easily.

Also... am I in a time warp where this is new again?

As a comment on the graphics aspect of the game;
Sadly the video compression does take away a lot. I have to try this game for myself on an RTX card.
From what I see so far, I gotta say I must be the only one who is not impressed at all. The lighting is ok-ish, the water reflection part way exaggerated. It would never look like this and you can tell if you have ever seen something like this in real life.
The texture quality looks horrible but I put that on the video compression. The smaller assets scattered around the level have the same or less vertices-count as games from a decade ago. They did increase in quantity of details and objects but not in the quality of those (if that makes sense).
Crysis could do a very decent water effect ages ago:

That is running on hardware from a decade ago with less then 1GB VRAM.

The overall lighting be it with RT or not on Metro is way to soft in spot light situations, there are far to much blurred soft shadows behind the smaller objects, often they should be much darker. Maybe that is just the cinematic nature of games, lighting up every detail to show it off, but it looks so unnatural and not 'correct' from a physics perspective that I can´t really dig it.

Take this with a huge grain of salt, I still need to see the game in person. I´m only used to the videos. But compared to the giant leaps of progress in visual quality from 2005-2010, I´m really disappointed with modern titles like Metro Exodus. Maybe future raytracing technology will bring a tear to my eye again, but as of right now I´m not impressed.

its the video compression which has sadly removed too much fine detail. you need to play this game. its probably the best game since the stalker series. the giant monsters are believable and really well done, the zombies are the freakiest ive ever come across. everyone must play this game. I am seriously impressed. and I had crashes for the first half of the game, patched now.
I cant recommend this game enough. All I can say is, your going to love it...:toast:

Not seeing it in person is your problem. Screens and videos are completely underwhelming. In-game visuals are amazing!

Even they pale to the story, the combat, and the extreme attention to detail everywhere displayed by the devs.

Ive played and finished since day one of the release and recently bought the new DLC that is a parallel story, not very happy for the DLC though.

Very short and not new enemies.

I've done my best to completely forget that it was released and was doing quite well with it until now...:).

How many months of a wait are we looking at currently? Until February? I don't mind...

I have avoided every single review of the game....can't wait. I've said many a time...Metro is one of my all time favorites. Right behind Fallout(Prior to FO4).

I liked exodus, It's a bit on rails coming from no-hud Far Cry playthroughs but the stealth elements are great. RTX is super useful since the lighting and staying in the shadows are such a big part of the game (esp on higher difficulty). Graphics are either amazing or terrible depending on where you look. DLSS is a must for RTX+3440x1440p playthrough.

Guns wise I basically used the same 3 guns the whole game - double barrel shotty some variant of the pneumatic rifle and a silenced + scoped pistol.

It's surprisingly re-playable even when you know what will happen thanks to the open world design and excellent stealth/combat system.

It makes no difference. Your thoughts were on what you are playing. Fewer people visit threads started about a specific game anyway. Or go general in one and more specific in another.

I’m looking forward to playing The Two Colonels simply because not enough is known about the other guy or what his fate was, or what happened in those last days.

The next DLC is going to be the one I really want to play! Probably won’t be out till January, though.

Yeah, i'm sure the next DLC will be a whole lot better. I was hoping this little romp and what i had left to do in Odyssey would last a little longer. When i went into Odyssey if felt like home and brought a tear to my eye...i think i need a therapist. :)

I noticed in the Greedfall thread you said you didn't think it doesn’t seem like my piece of cake....Have you played Dragon Age Inquisition?...Don't let the 4 person squad throw you off thinking like it's a Pillars of Eternity or a Diablo. It has more in common with a game like Odyssey or with elements there of. With the lack of truly epic single player games give Dragon Age Inquisition a try anyhow if you looking for something different.

DAI, may be one of the few games I have actually disliked. I will likely never finish. Most people know I stay positive and almost always find something to like in a game because I just love gaming. DAI is that exception.

As to why on the Greedfall I am not sure, the reason is kind of silly. It is A) early 17th century clothing/ partial armor, and B) firearms. I enjoy guns in my games, and IRL. I don’t enjoy guns in Fantasy genre games. Just a little quirk of mine. Silly, I know.

DAI, may be one of the few games I have actually disliked. I will likely never finish. Most people know I stay positive and almost always find something to like in a game because I just love gaming. DAI is that exception.

I hear you there - I tried 3 times to get into DAI and every time was very bored and very disappointed. I really don't know how it got such great reviews.

Maybe all the reviewers just ran it down on easy with a controller, while drinking heavily.

I totally understand about hating a game that most everybody loved. The one for me is Shadow of the Colossus for the PS4. Everybody, reviewers and players alike just loved that game. I can't think of a game that's a bigger turd that i've ever played...in fact i rather play with the turd i left in the toilet. I guess it's akin to that actor or person on tv that you really don't know why you don't like'm you just don't.

Thank you Sir! Can't wait....although....thanks to the sale this past weekend, I now have Kingdom Come: Deliverance to tide me over until February!

I'll just take it nice and slow... :).

Just finished the game and shed a tear. Wow, what an experience.
