I finally got full refund from store for 2700x+x470 taichi ultimate and now i'm thinking what to do next. From what i see situation is not as good as i would wish it to be. I was thinking about 3900x+x570 taichi. Motherboard is available anywhere but cpu... this is other kind of story. Via prices comparing website i found literally one shop i've never heard about which has few pieces but more expensive (regular price: 2300pln, this shop has it for 2700pln). Similar situation on amazon with third-party marketplace sellers. I did check few online shops local and foreign and everywhere i see dates of availability like September 27th or October 3rd-4th.

Next in lineup is ryzen 7 3800x but this being much cheaper also has less cores. On the other hand soon 3950x should show up on days but gonna be much more expensive than 3900x and will be above my limit. Tough choice to me: wait another month (i was for a month without desktop already) or get something cheaper, lesser but available now.

Is it any different to you in your local area, in your country?

Do you need 12 cores? If you don't know what would use 12 cores - you don't need twelve cores.

If you don't need the cores, buy a 3700X. The 3800X is almost exactly the same but more expensive. I'm going to grab a 3700X soon enough.

or grab a 3600/x since you're going to be upgrading to the 4x series in about 12 months anyways :p

I'm definitely not going to upgrade next year nor to 4xxx series, if i would buy a cpu now i would keep it up to time when ddr5 platform will show up :) I have some thoughts about i9-9990k being my first cpu since 2004 but who buys intel nowadays? :p

Why 12 cores or more? Because 8 is so FX. On a serious note, from time to time i do some mild video stuff and i'm a programmer.

Avoid... imo is a harsh word, avoid because of bad behavior, some problems or by avoid you mean it has bad price/performance ratio?

I would avoid it because you will effectively have identical performance to the 3700x. Both are 8 cores. Both will have similar average boost clock speeds less than 4.4ghz. That extra 100mhz of maximum boost speed isn't going to matter. Yes the performance per dollar is worse, but the performance is the same while the cost is higher.

Why 12 cores or more? Because 8 is so FX. On a serious note, from time to time i do some mild video stuff and i'm a programmer.
Dont even begin to compare that!!
Ever tried to run one of those FXs? I had one for like 6~7 years. First of all, an FX has no real 8cores and only 8 threads. You can say its an 4/8C, 8T. Some shared components beetween 8 modules. (I Knew it from day one so AMD doesnt owe me anything ) Plus an FX has the half IPC per clock against Ryzen 3000.
For example, my previous FX3870 had roughly the same clocks (all core and boost) to my current R5 3600. And now with the 3600 I have doubled the per core performance, and the all core perf. gone to x2.5~3.0 because of the 12threads.
So the 3700X with 8 true cores, 16 threads, double IPC, and slightly better clocks against the FX8xxx has.... well... do the math! You are getting into Threadripper 1000/2000 series territory.

I've been using fx-8320 and later fx-6300 up to past year, these cpus hold up surprisingly well. I know modules/cores are controversy up to this day but cpus were in fact decent, obviously they are far from ryzens in terms of.. basically anything. Damn, in some aspects phenom II cpus were better or comparable to FXs, one phenom II x4 (unlocked athlon II x3) is still running well on my sister's pc as internet browsing, movie watching pc.

I know... before an FX8370, I had a Phenom II X6 1090T, and before that a Phenom I x4 9500...
So I wasnt saying that the FX was all bad. If it were I wouldnt keep it for that many years. Still has some value (not to buy as new tho).

Now that Im thinking of it, your 2700X stands really really nice today and maybe you should skip the 3000 series and go for 4000 next year. But yet Idont know how that X470 will co op with that series of CPUs. Perhaps you should keep the 2700X for like 2 years more and go to 2021 for a X570/X670(?) and a 4000 CPU, a year after release with prices down.

I returned 2700x and at the moment i'm basically without desktop, using laptop and i hate laptops... I had to return 2700x and x470 taichi ultimate because for some insane reason this particular combo was giving me lots of various issues and pls do not even try to help me fix these as i already tried literally anything possible (for reference look at this my thread on reddit) in order to fix them. That's the reason why i'm looking at 3xxx series at all.

3700x is hard to buy in current US market. 3900x is even harder.

The 3800x gives you essentially the same performance gaming wise as the 3900x will, but will suffer in high computational tasks when compared to 3900x. Just look at the 3900x versus the 3700x computational performance, and that will give you a pretty good idea on 3800x.

In my opinion you gain a modest performance boost in the 3800x versus the 3700x, so if you plan on keeping the processor for greater than 2 years, it would be worth it.

I walked into my local MC and had a 3900x in hand, that's pretty easy. The beginning of every week they get 10+ and by the end of the day they are gone or by the next day. I call that some serious demand.

Easily the most popular processor that I have followed in the last 3 years in terms of demand and availability.

yes cheap out of the kindness of their hearts. SCREW INTEL 14+++++++++ Go AMD, X570, M.2 4.0 and don't think twice about it. I have a 9900k pc its been off for 3 weeks since building a 3900x with a 1tb 4.0 m.2.

Yesterday i sent an email to local retailer and today they answered me and answer doesn't sound optimistic. What they say is stock refill is planned for 01.10.2019, this appear to be kinda ok as at least i have a fixed date, right? Well, continuing they say i can now create an order so i will be in queue of people waiting for that cpu and even this doesn't guarantee i will get this cpu on October 1st as demand is so big and they are not sure if they will receive sufficient amount of cpus.

Such words coming from one of biggest retailers in my country make availability of 3900x look really bad, or looking at it from kinda optimistic side, demand is surprisingly overwhelming.
I'm curious why there is such huge problem with availability of only this cpu while all other models are available everywhere. I would expect 3600/3600x being undersupplied because of demand as this is probably the most popular model of lineup. This really makes me scratching my head wondering wtf is going on.

Do you need 12 cores? If you don't know what would use 12 cores - you don't need twelve cores.

If you don't need the cores, buy a 3700X. The 3800X is almost exactly the same but more expensive. I'm going to grab a 3700X soon enough.
That's a surprising statement coming from a well known "more cores" advocate.
So is 8 cores enough? Why?

If someone uses software that depends on parallel processing, it will utilize 12 cores, which makes 3900X 50% faster than 3700X.
Lets say they both had 8 cores, but 3900X still was 50% faster - for 50% higher price. I'm pretty sure you'd recommend the faster one. ;-)

Otherwise, i.e. with software that depends on sequential processing, it'll be really hard to utilize 8 cores, so why not get 6?

Honestly, 3600 and 3900X are the chips to get today. 3700X is a mid-range compromise that doesn't shine so much.
Easily the most popular processor that I have followed in the last 3 years in terms of demand and availability.
Because it makes a real difference.
And the poor availability of 3900X is a mistake by AMD and total negation of Zen's MCM idea. It should be easy to make.
But they've clocked it so high that 7nm probably doesn't provide many samples. It may get better over time, but at this moment it just kills their profits...
A lot of people who bought 3700X or 3800X would be willing to get a 12-core chip if it was available. AMD's margin would explode.

They could fix this by making a 3900 out of 3700X dies ($450?). I have no idea why this hasn't happened yet.

A lot of people who bought 3700X or 3800X would be willing to get a 12-core chip if it was available. AMD's margin would explode.

They could fix this by making a 3900 out of 3700X dies ($450?). I have no idea why this hasn't happened yet.
Maybe the availability is good it's just the demand is off the charts and that's why there's shortage of 3900X CPUs.
Remember, it's not just us regular consumers buying the chips but also companies for building their own desktop brands etc. and this particular processor has been welcomed very much.

There's demand for 3700x and 3800x as well. AMD will not ditch one tier to satisfy ones ego. Besides, they know what they are doing I'm sure of that. Also the 3900x seems to be better binned chip and maybe the 3700x and 3800x can't work as 3900X's.

Because it makes a real difference.

I'm not a more cores advocate? I think you have me confused with someone else. I moved from a 6 to an 8 core chip for Ryzen; for the hell of it. I game, I think 8 cores will be plenty for me.

Exactly my thoughts. 3900x AM4 can be also awesome cpu for semi-pro and pro users as cheaper and more versatile alternative to TR platform, especially since x570 supports up to 128GB while 3xx and 4xx chipset motherboards were supporting up to just 64GB.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.

I am really curious about that too. I wonder if they are just trying to ramp up ahead of the 3950 launch.

yes cheap out of the kindness of their hearts. SCREW INTEL 14+++++++++ Go AMD, X570, M.2 4.0 and don't think twice about it. I have a 9900k pc its been off for 3 weeks since building a 3900x with a 1tb 4.0 m.2.

Doubtful anyone is selling you anything out of the kindness of their heart, AMD included. Great time to buy though... Thank you AMD :D

My local Microcenter has them occasionally. I had thought about buying and selling them on eBay at the going rate because the price differential at the time was like $150.
